"...not the cure that everyone has been hoping for, but researchers working with the virus ravaging mutant enclaves around the country claim to have reached a breakthrough -- a treatment which can stop the contagion from spreading from person to person. For more on this, we're joined by our medical specialist..."
"...ravaged by riots for the second time this year, District X citizens have been organizing to repair the damage that's been done not only the the buildings and infrastructure, but also to their sense of community. Several people are in S.H.I.E.L.D. custody in connection with the recent outbreak of violence, but few details have emerged so far..."
"...outpouring of grief from mutant communities and their supporters internationally after a high-profile member of the X-men's death was confirmed. Kurt Wagner, known to the public as 'Nightcrawler', was a long-time staff member at the Xavier Institute, rumored in recent months to have been suffering from the virus affecting mutants around the nation and the world. When asked for comment, a representative of the school asked for peace and privacy, and declined any further discussion..."
"...slight drop in mainstream support for candidates Norman Osborn and Graydon Creed attributed to their well-publicized outbursts against, among others, the mutant and pro-mutant protest groups that have been dogging them on the campaign trail. A video taken just last week of Osborn's rambling and incoherent response to a question posed to him by a mutant attendee of a meet-and-greet event went viral, prompting mockery even from some of the other candidates in the primary..."
"...international news, President Kelly has set a date for a new round of discussions with Genoshan leadership. Speaking with the press this morning, he said that he wanted to give his thanks to them personally for the help that their researchers have provided in the past weeks, and to continue making steps towards the normalization of relations..."

Open!
There are times that she feels like she's falling apart, that everything is just going to hell. Kurt had always been there, since she started at the school and never thought she'd see the day he wasn't around..at least anytime soon. Her cell phone is sitting beside her as she knows there will be a call before too long. Right now, there is just time to make a choice that's been nagging at her for a while now.]
Re: Open!
Joss' pulled the trigger on her grappling lasso. It wrapped around a tree branch and a second later she was swinging like Tarzan. The wind whipped through Joss' hair, as the pendulum affect thrust her in the air. In the brief seconds she hung in the air she whipped her lasso to another tree and swung. She swung from tree to tree. Normally she would be shouting with joy at the exercise, but somehow that still seemed wrong. Her heart pounding, she finally reached a tree by the lake, and took a breather.
She looked down, and saw a blond girl with long hair by the lake.
"Howdy." She said with a smile still catching her breath.

"Yo, Tryin' ta keep yourself goin' too I take it?"
With everything going on, it was the best she could go with. For now, it was to keep herself focused.
no subject
"That's bout right."
Joss hopped down to earth. "Didn't know Kurt myself, but there ain't no takin death lightly, specialy when someone dies on yer first mission."
Joss tried to smile, but her feeling wouldn't allow it this time. She looked away, and she had to change the subject to look Marisa in her golden eyes.
"Name's Joss." She held out her hand to shake.
no subject
Marisa is quiet again for a moment, glancing down at her phone before letting out a sigh. That phone call better not come yet...or maybe it'd be tomorrow due to time differences. But not a discussion she wanted to think on right now.
"For me...Kurt's been there since I started. Probably one of the few who'd kinda just remind me and a friend ta keep our fights down when he heard them."
A shrug and the phone gets pocketed for now. Although the subject change is welcomed, a smile and a firm handshake.
"I'm Marisa or Magus if ya want my X-Man name. How long have ya been here so far?"
no subject
Finally, when she decided to return Joss' handshake, Marisa lessened the gulf of sadness between them.
Joss had to squeeze slightly to match the firmness of Marisa's shake. "Good ta meetcha Marisa. It weren't more than a month ago that I enrolled here. Ain't even had enough time ta get a X-men name. "
Joss swallowed. Her free arm rose slightly as though she were about to rest an arm on Marisa's shoulder, but she resisted.
"How about you? Been here fer a while?"
no subject
"Nice ta meet ya too Joss. Yeah...been here since I was like...thirteen, fourteenish I think? Went through the rest of school and started college here..even though I'm about to put that on hold."
Marisa frowns a bit at that as she tugs on her braid lightly. A bit of advice hit her and she let it go. The one thing she had learned, living and fighting through all of these things was how to try and keep stress down..might as well share it.
"Stay in class though..Hope that it never comes down ta you havin' ta choose between school and fighting if ya plan on beomin' a X-Man. It's not exactly easy."
no subject
Out of the corner of her shifting eye she recognized a disturbance on the water's surface. A dragon fly skitted over it.
"I do wanna be a X-man, and I don't plan on none of it bein easy, so I'll be takin yer advice ta heart?" Joss looked up to Marisa.
"Got any other tips?"
no subject
She's laughing at this a little bit because who would really ask for her advice if they knew her.
"I think they only thing I can tell ya other then that is ta keep your friends and teammates close. Ya never know when they'll leave ya behind ta try and figure things out."
If anything, it was keeping her mind off of the whole situation and getting her to smile.
no subject
She pointed her thumb at the lake. "Hey, I'm gonna see what fish I can catch from this here lake. Ya want some if I get it?"
no subject
"Sure. Probably better then anything from the cafeteria. Do ya want any help or anythin' I can do?"
She's joking about, a good sign.
no subject
"Ya can collect a few sticks if ya want. Learned me ta start a fire by rubbin two sticks together when I was in the girl scouts."
Joss collected the dragon fly, and took out a wire out of her pocket shaped like a hook.
no subject
"Fire ain't a problem. Heat maniplulation at it's finest!"
She takes the stick with her as she continues to gather for now.
no subject
Joss's fired her grappling lasso, and the propeller at the end allowed it to hover above the water, tempting fish.

[Like Feliks is one to talk. He was on that recovery mission, and he's a mess.]
[But sometimes, all there is for it is to keep going and help with all the other messes. And when that's the path forward, he's never let it slow him down.]
no subject
[Slightly sarcastic but it's Marisa. She's just dealing the best way she can for the moment.]
Nothin' is the same anymore and it ain't gettin' any easier ta figure out what ta do.
no subject
[His voice is light and easy, like he's not talking about anything important, but he's a little more somber when he adds:]
Thinking about Kurt?
no subject
[Not looking forward to that conversation..as much as she needed to talk to her best friend.]
Yeah...I mean, He's always been here. I can't even remember if there was a time he wasn't around.
no subject
[Feliks isn't really a person who's familiar with the idea of giving up hope.]
...I get that, though. Like, it's hard to even imagine the place without him.
no subject
[Marisa isn't usually one to give up either but she's given up on college for the time being.]
I mean..it's not like we didn't know it wasn't possible that someone might die on missions or due ta people being assholes. It's just...un-nerving I guess.
