SINISTER FINALE

WHO: Those who signed up for the punching dinosaurs Savage Lands mission
WHAT: Time to get a cure
WHERE: Savage Land Nature Preserve
WHEN: October 10th
WARNING(S): Violence, language, etc

The Blackbird was getting quite a bit of use, lately. It left the Institute early, before the sun was properly up—from there, it was a straight line from New York to Antarctica, with no stops between. The paperwork had been cleared, official permission granted for the team to enter an international wildlife reserve. There would be no scandalous headlines of border-crossing house parties this time, thank you very much.

The glasslike surface of the Antarctic Ocean stretched away endlessly beneath the plane, disappearing into a fog-clouded horizon.

They weren’t there quite yet.

But they would be soon.

"Ahhh!"

Joss was behind the wing, so some bullets zinged uncomfortably close.

"Checking!" Joss whipped on her multi-spectrum goggles. If there were any major damage to the engine it would be obvious to everyone, but she intended to use the infer-red/radio spectrum, to get an ok, if imperfect, look into it."

Josh didn't like that blip of radiation shown on her goggles.

"Engine's damaged! and..."

Joss saw it out the window.

"Missiles inbound!"

Joss knew a few things about missile guidance systems, as they been adopted to civilian use in her father's robotics lab, and could have used her goggles to check whether they were using a RADAR guidance system or an inferred system or something else entirely.

But she didn't have enough seconds for that!

"Zancrow! shoot a fireball away from us!" Joss didn't actually know if Zancrow could make a fireball hot enough to serve as a flair, or even if a flair would work, but action had to be taken just in case.

Joss shouted to the cockpit in case Storm didn't have one of her communicators.

"Miss Monroe! Charge the chaff with lightening to fool RADAR!" For all Joss knew Storm had already done that.

Joss looked at a missile with her goggles. If the missiles weren't stopped, and if by some miracle they were still in the air, Joss was sure she would have the information to make one last desperate action for life.

[The missile she could see moved way...way faster than Kaede thought. Deflecting bullets was one thing--an unbroken field didn't rely on my reaction time. Forming her vectors into hands to grab something took longer, took more thought--and it was out of range. The chaff helped veer the missile off target, away from one of the wings, but Kaede was no help here.

She couldn't see what the others were doing, gaze fixed on the tiny patch of window.

Had to do some research for this one.

(ooc note: Did the best research I could on such short notice. Correct me if I'm wrong)

Joss really hoped Storm would make a lighting surge, but the chaff gave her a few extra seconds for one final gamble in case Storm didn't come through.

The chaff confirmed that the missiles used RADAR (as the point of Chaff is to fool RADAR based guidance).

Joss used her goggles to try to detect the frequency(S) of the missiles, and set all her communicators at the same radio frequency as the guidance systems, attempting to adjust as needed.

She then had Tornado open it's self and tilt at an angle to deflect the RADAR signal back at the missile. She put the communicators' signal up to full power, spoke into them and hoped...HOPED...that it would all be enough to jam the missile's RADAR.

One way or another, it would be Joss' last, gamble against the missile.
