The Liberation Begins

WHO: Everyone
WHAT: The news of the world, brought right to your school!

WHEN: All week
WARNING(S): if a thread goes into warning label territory, either throw it in the subject line or take it to a separate log.

"... have declined significantly. Experts say the lack of activity from the formerly aggressive group may indicate a change in gameplan for the Friends of Humanity. Rather than taking to the streets and participating in violent confrontations with rioters, the Friends of Humanity have become much more visible on the internet and in social media. "A Voice for Humanity", a gathering spot for many FoH supporters, has branched itself onto Facebook, Twitter, and other social media spheres. Paul Stacy, the creator of the website and noted anti-mutant activist and writer, has stated that in the modern world, social revolutions aren't won on the streets, but on the web..."

"... resulting in the death of five officers and six others so far, the riots in San Francisco continue as masked members of the Mutant Liberation Front fan the flames, violently fighting off any attempts by city officials to regain control of the Castro Street neighborhood, also known as "Mutant Town West". The mayor has pleaded to the state and federal governments for aid in order to restore order..."

"... Reverend William Stryker, uncle to the late Donovan Zane, was finally forced to end his vigil today as a young man identifying himself as a member of the Mutant Liberation Front rushed the capital steps today, using an unknown mutant power to injure the reverend in what police are calling attempted murder. Reverend Stryker was rushed to the nearest hospital and is said to be in critical condition..."

"... President Kelly and special diplomat Gabrielle Haller left for Genosha again for another round of peace talks, but were stopped and forced to turn away as Air Force One entered Genoshan air space. There has been no word from the mutant nation as to why, specifically, US officials were invited and then summarily dismissed before they even reached land, but many in congress are claiming this is a clear sign from the Genoshan government that they are not interested in peace talks and are preparing to invade the US..."

"... holding rallies in known mutant neighborhoods in major urban centers across the US. In District X specifically, one of the masked speakers declared that they had claimed District X back from the human hands that had left them to starve and to freeze. Several food and clothing supplies, believed to be stolen and hijacked by MLF factions working in the Atlantic, were then delivered to the district's residence..."

Common Room

[personal profile] idkmybfforin 2015-02-13 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Utsuho's sitting on the ground again--out of the way of most main pathways through the room this time! She tended not to fit in chairs very well anyway (stupid wings) and the carpet felt soft on her knees. So as far as she was concerned the floor was a perfectly acceptable place to sit.]

I wonder if he'll die.

[Okuu was thinking out loud, half paying attention to the TV and the news about Reverend Stryker and half on the textbook she was trying to read and not doing a terribly good job at either.

There wasn't any malice in her voice--but not a whole lot of caring either.

One of her wings was folded a bit closer to her back than the other, as if she could prevent others from noticing it that way. Specifically the chewed-feathers bit.

[Tonight seems to be "comfort the children" night for Tomas. But honestly, he couldn't bear to see all of them in so much pain and confusion due to these events. After calling/texting everyone in San Francisco, he spots a winged girl sitting on the floor.]

Would you like some company?
idkmybfforin: (This lacks keywords)

[personal profile] idkmybfforin 2015-02-16 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Utsuho looks over her shoulder, a bit startled. Not in a bad way, necessarily, just...she didn't expect someone there.]

Me?

If you want to.

[She folded her wings a little more compactly, but kept her eyes focused mostly on him. This was strange. Was she so important?]
dandyelegance: (the gentleman)

[personal profile] dandyelegance 2015-02-17 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
[He always had the tendency to accidentally sneak up on people. He really should watch that. Either way, he sat down kind of next to her, allowing those wings to stretch if need be.]

How are you holding up?
idkmybfforin: (Spoiler: She's illiterate)

[personal profile] idkmybfforin 2015-02-19 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
[Her feathers do ruffle again.]

I'm okay.

English is hard to read.
dandyelegance: (pleasant)

[personal profile] dandyelegance 2015-02-19 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
It's not the easiest language to learn. I had trouble with it when I was young.

[He scoots over a bit more so she can stretch even further.]
idkmybfforin: (HOW IT AM WORK)

[personal profile] idkmybfforin 2015-02-25 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
I don't like it! There's too many words that don't do what they're supposed to!

[Her feathers rattle, and the air temperature around her warms for a moment before cooling down again.]

[personal profile] dandyelegance 2015-02-25 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[Now that's a bit unexpected. For a moment, he thought she was going to catch fire or something. So many different powers in this place...]

What are you trying to read?
idkmybfforin: (No I'm not getting up)

[personal profile] idkmybfforin 2015-02-26 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Like...this!

[She holds up the offending book--an anthology of poetry, apparently, and opened to T.S. Elliot's "The Waste Land".

How the hell her head hasn't exploded yet is anyone's guess.

[When Tomas looks at it, his eyes just light up.]

This is one of the most revered pieces of modernist poetry! Are you reading it for an assignment?
idkmybfforin: (Spoiler: She's illiterate)

[personal profile] idkmybfforin 2015-02-26 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Utsuho bobs her head, not entirely unlike a very large bird.]

It confuses me.
dandyelegance: (like a vampire)

[personal profile] dandyelegance 2015-02-26 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
It's not the easiest set of poems. What's the assignment, if I may ask?

[He's taken the book and flipping through it, recalling how he once had to read through it for a short research paper. Said research paper was almost not written because of certain events...]
idkmybfforin: (....uh)

[personal profile] idkmybfforin 2015-02-26 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm supposed to see how it...[her voice changes a bit, exactly like she's imitating someone else] 'describes the person he is'.

[And her voice goes back to normal.]

How is a person like lilacs and dead things?
dandyelegance: (watching)

[personal profile] dandyelegance 2015-02-26 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Ohhh dear. Tomas hands the book back.]

He wasn't in the best health when he wrote this. And I can only imagine the added difficulty when English isn't the reader's native language.
idkmybfforin: (Spoiler: She's illiterate)

[personal profile] idkmybfforin 2015-02-26 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
So...he wrote all of this when he was sick, then?

[Well, that would make more sense than whatever Utsuho could conjure up.]
dandyelegance: (with Sharon)

[personal profile] dandyelegance 2015-02-27 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
There's a very high probability, yes.

And he drew a lot of inspiration from numerous other writers.
idkmybfforin: (She will make this face a lot)

[personal profile] idkmybfforin 2015-03-08 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Like a bird?

[She's thinking more of the mockingbirds and crows on campus mimicking car alarms than anything else.]

I wish I could do anything when I'm sick.

[She tends to sulk under blankets most of the time.]
dandyelegance: (with Sharon)

[personal profile] dandyelegance 2015-03-08 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm... I never thought about it like that. Yes, I suppose you could say he was like a bird and drawing inspiration from his surroundings.

[He can't help chuckling there.]

We all wish we could be more productive when we're stricken with illness.
