Seventh Trial - Self-Improvement
Who: Alric and whoever, depending on the prompt!
What: Various bits of training and so on!
Where: Various places around campus
When: All week (8/9-8/16)
Warning(s): Not really expected!
Okay not entirely knightly, but sort of.
Powers Development (Shulk): Alric had spoken to Shulk a little while ago about meeting up to study how exactly his power worked, the better to develop new ways he could use it. He made a point to go to that meeting relatively early in the day, when he was well-rested, as had been asked of him.
Team Training (Tiamaris and Hijikata): Alric still had ambitions of getting his team (such as it was at the moment) geared up for really doing some good. A bit part of that was obviously going to be intensive training with Tiamaris. Alric had his own control issues, but Tiamaris was downright volatile, and was going to need serious work to get to a point where he could function reliably without risking a meltdown over someone saying the wrong thing. Hijikata's guidance would surely be invaluable, in making that happen, as well.
Power Training (OTA): Alric had taken to practicing with his powers out by the shoreline, where there was minimal damage he could do to himself, to others, or to property, if he slipped. It gave him an opportunity to safely push the limits of his control in every possible way, such as plasma-sculpting sand into glass figures to practice fine detail, or handling multiple plasma constructs simultaneously, or working on getting more acrobatics out of his plasma jets (which often ended with a splash).
Physical Conditioning (OTA): As much as it was important to keep his control of his powers well-tuned, physical fitness was important, particularly for a knight. Moreover, exercise had proven to be one of those things Alric found especially useful for maintaining that discipline he'd worked so hard on, and he regularly invested a solid chunk of time in aerobics as well as strength training in the school gym.
Choose Your Own Adventure (OTA): Alric has lots of other things to keep up on, including guitar and fencing and a long list of more academic areas of study in which his family expects him to keep up. Feel free to bump into him doing any of those in an appropriate space, or taking a break somewhere like a bay window or in the branches of a tree!

"...nn. Is there another problem..?"

"Considering the endowments available to the school, I believe you would be hard-pressed to cause more damage than it can afford, my friend, even on your worst day. After all, the very purpose of the Institute is to help us learn to live with our abilities, is it not? ...still, it is true that it's best we do all we can to minimize the cost, and ensure that you do learn that control which you seek. So. What have you been trying, so far?"

But he wouldn't lie, or try to weasel out of answering either.
"Talking to you and trying to avoid idiots," he grumbled. So far, the best combo he's found.

"..ah. Well. A start, perhaps, but I would suggest we should try expanding on that a little... music, for example, and rigorous exercise, have both been invaluable to me. My fencing training, too, has been a means of learning finesse and discipline--no less applicable to self-control in other contexts. Although I rarely practice it, certain lessons and techniques from various meditation practices have been useful, as well; even as simple as breathing exercises."
Alric pauses a moment.
"Exercise is certainly the most accessible, if you're amenable to trying it--and I certainly have no doubt of your sincerity in this matter. Meditation, also, is relatively quick to learn as a handful of the most basic techniques."
mental image... Timaris trying to play a flute... ane melting it.
He shrugged a bit. "I... I don't want to scare people. I don't know. But I'm willing to try whatever you think will work. I need to learn this... and... scaring people... is better than killing them, right?" he asked softy.

"...I don't believe you'll risk causing an earthquake in this form, my friend. The school gym is, from what I've seen, well-equipped for the needs of its... unusual students. In my experience, there are two ways one manages one's self-control: with restraint, and well-regulated release."
He pauses briefly.
"Ultimately, you must find for yourself what combination works best, and what techniques are most effective, but I strongly suggest you explore all options you are able to. Exercise can be an excellent release--an opportunity to burn off the energy that builds up with restraint, in a controlled manner. But you will almost certainly need, also, to learn ways--and form habits--of defusing and placing limits upon your anger. Anger is like a mighty steed. Untrained, it may carry you away and do terrible things; trained rigorously and harnessed with skill and discipline, however, it can supply a great reservoir of strength, so long as you work always to maintain control."

"I was in this form," he muttered, addressing the rest, instead. "But... I didn't really think about the gym...."
Enclosed spaces... he tried not to be indoors any more than he had to on his own, without someone like Alric there to keep a watch over him. The library long enough to grab a few books, his room with a window open for easy escape. Classes. And food. He cycled between trying not to need to eat so he didn't have to be in the cafeteria with getting so hungry he no longer cared about the danger, he just had to fill is face. Usually at school events. Not that there had been many of those, recently.

"I strongly recommend it."
Alric tapped a foot lightly, studying Tiamaris for a moment. He was obviously troubled about the idea, somehow.
"...you have some unspoken concern, I take it?"

"...mm. Well. If you'd be more comfortable--understandably, of course--I can certainly investigate making outdoor arrangements for you. However, it is, of course, harder to make promises about that."

"...indeed..? I was much more... rambunctious, in a word. Had far more difficulty with control, even under the best circumstances. ...I fear I wouldn't have been much help, then; I hope, at least, I can be some help, now."
