"...not the cure that everyone has been hoping for, but researchers working with the virus ravaging mutant enclaves around the country claim to have reached a breakthrough -- a treatment which can stop the contagion from spreading from person to person. For more on this, we're joined by our medical specialist..."
"...ravaged by riots for the second time this year, District X citizens have been organizing to repair the damage that's been done not only the the buildings and infrastructure, but also to their sense of community. Several people are in S.H.I.E.L.D. custody in connection with the recent outbreak of violence, but few details have emerged so far..."
"...outpouring of grief from mutant communities and their supporters internationally after a high-profile member of the X-men's death was confirmed. Kurt Wagner, known to the public as 'Nightcrawler', was a long-time staff member at the Xavier Institute, rumored in recent months to have been suffering from the virus affecting mutants around the nation and the world. When asked for comment, a representative of the school asked for peace and privacy, and declined any further discussion..."
"...slight drop in mainstream support for candidates Norman Osborn and Graydon Creed attributed to their well-publicized outbursts against, among others, the mutant and pro-mutant protest groups that have been dogging them on the campaign trail. A video taken just last week of Osborn's rambling and incoherent response to a question posed to him by a mutant attendee of a meet-and-greet event went viral, prompting mockery even from some of the other candidates in the primary..."
"...international news, President Kelly has set a date for a new round of discussions with Genoshan leadership. Speaking with the press this morning, he said that he wanted to give his thanks to them personally for the help that their researchers have provided in the past weeks, and to continue making steps towards the normalization of relations..."

Rinka's not really sure herself, what comes after this life. Maybe it really is like what she heard about growing up in Japan. Or maybe it's something different. Or maybe there's just nothing at all. Either way, she knows that goodbyes are for the benefit of the living and not the dead.

"Maybe. Still better to say it. We're not going to see a teacher as good as him or who was so happy to teach for a long time yet."
She includes herself in that statement. And no, Cyclops' obvious love of disciplining people doesn't count.

Rinka gave Reki a small smile.
"And that doesn't mean a teacher can't do good things even if they aren't called to teaching."

Reki had always adopted a slightly exasperated but indulgent persona with her students. It tended to work better with them than haughtiness or aggressive, HELLO FELLOW KIDS broishness.
"Sounds like you speak from experience though."
Rinka hadn't confided her hopes in her, but Reki would listen if she wanted to.

Rinka shook her head with a fond, but exasperated smile.
"...this guy. He crowed about being a 'hero of justice' and before I knew it, we were running around Tokyo helping people. And I liked it. I'd thought, after the way my father was fired from the police, I couldn't help people because I was a mutant, but Kyotaro showed me we could find our own way. I don't have the passion for it that he has, but I know I could be really good at it."

She looks amused. It helps distract her from her sadness at least.
"Does this mean you want to become a full x-woman?"
A protege. Reki actually wouldn't mind it if it were Rinka. She thought her a bit square, but a hard worker and sincere.

"Yes, if Professor Xavier would have me," she said with a firm nod. "I would very much like to be a full member of the X-Men."
