[Her jaw clenches, and she stares him down like she'll be able to see ulterior motives written on his face if she looks hard enough. She has a hard time accepting that other people might offer her something purely out of good will sometimes, especially when she's already fired up.]

Rather than concerning yourself with why I care, which I care very little by the way, you should probably ask yourself "why not?". Just a suggestion.
