"... the hashtag has inspired several high profile mutants in the entertainment world, particularly mutant pop star Dazzler, to put up personal accounts of the discriminations they've faced growing up as mutants. However, the Mutant Liberation Front, or at least hackers claiming to be them, have seemingly hijacked the movement on several social media sites, using the hashtag while "doxxing", defined as "sharing the private personal information of an individual or group, anyone that has publicly spoken out against mutants. The internet has become a battleground like any city street..."
"... special diplomat Haller faced many questions arriving back in the United States today. She has stated she had no comments on Genosha's threat of war against the US. President Kelly's diplomatic relations with Genosha have largely been criticized as failures, and many in congress and in the public in general seem to be in favor of preparing for the inevitable..."
"... Reverend William Stryker, uncle to the late Donovan Zane, has lead a vigil lasting several days now on the steps of Congress and refuses to be moved until Mutant Registration has been passed. Public support is turning overwhelmingly in favor of registration as the nation mourns the young man, Donovan Zane, whose life was taken in the midst of a violent protest..."
"... with the coldest temperatures on record. Volunteers are urging everyone in District X to be extra careful as the season progresses, to regularly visit the shelters and soup kitchens, and to not try to brave the winter storms alone. They have also put out a mass call to anyone willing to help out, with food, blankets, and/or warm clothing..."
"... a nation on the brink of war. President Kelly addressed the nation saying that 2019 will not be a repeat of historical mistakes or tragedies. He says he refuses to believe the spirit of the American people are so willing to give in to bigotry and surrender to what is perceived as an inevitable war with Genosha. It can be stopped, he urged. He said we all have to look at ourselves and find the courage to do the right thing and love our fellow person, no matter what the circumstances. President Kelly continues to believe in his vision of hope for humans and mutants..."

Open!
[As much as Utsuho hated, hated this kind of weather--her wings were feeling cramped. Way, waaaay too cramped. And flying aimless circles around the gymnasium wasn't really cutting it any more.
So she had ventured outside! On a clear day, for...relatively short forays, just around the main campus and back, rather than the grounds themselves. Her wing feathers were fluffed out as much as possible while still maintaining any kind of flight surface, and there was occasionally a reddish glow from beneath the feathers on her forewings. There seemed to be an even smaller heat distortion around them when she did that, and her breath puffed out almost smokelike.
Each time Okuu made a circuit she started ending it sooner and sooner to rest and crowd a heat vent indoors. A door here and there and hopefully there was no one behind them before Okuu tried barging into the common buildings again.]
Re: Open!
Tiamaris was sitting under a tree, wearing a shirt he borrowed from Alric and his last pair of pants. Nothing else. No coat against the cold air, no blanket to huddle under. He just sat under the tree, occasionally glancing down at the book he had brought out with him, but mostly staring into space, trying to come to grips with his life here, and his constant question of if he should still be living.
His eyes were a dull orange, though they shaded more towards gold, watching her.

Then she looked down, and almost immediately started bristling in indignation. She tilted her wings and began circling back down to at least within shouting distance. Which she promptly started doing!
"You're supposed to be cold!"
This was so not fair.
no subject
Okay, his face might not show it - save the gold of his eyes - but he was amused. It was a rare, very rare, thing for a person to amuse him. Books and TV could on occasion, but rarely people.
Him... cold. He couldn't even remember what cold felt like.

She still kept talking regardless.
"Who else would I be talking to?"

oh shit my bad D:
Okay, cruising around the tree was getting irritating. Utsuho folded her wings and landed properly, somewhere a bit to the right of him. She kicked up quite a bit of snow with her feathers, mostly deliberately. She didn't really want to stand in that if she didn't have to.
On the other hand-
"Because there's snow, and you're sitting in it!"
If it wasn't already painfully obvious that there were mostly painfully simple things floating in Okuu's head, well.
No worries

At least one person was benefiting from this conversation. Okuu was just getting her thoughts stuck in knots.
Posting from my ipad, please excuse typos and brevity

"Are you trying to trick me?" Utsuho's feathers stayed bristling, and she even stepped forwards.
...well, more like her foot was getting damp and she wanted to move it elsewhere, but close enough.

"I make fire too!" Utsuho said--near-shouted, rather. She swept her bristling wings forwards, and a half dozen little flames flickered out of her feathers like short-lived sparks.
"I still don't like snow."
She wasn't doing much more than posturing now, at least.

I am so sorry for Okuu, ffff
(I'm so sorry for Tiamaris....)
He stood, dropping his book, his eyes a dangerous livid liquid red. No... he was loosing his temper. No. No. No nonononononono! And there went the clothing as copper-gold scales erupted from his skin, shredding his clothing. He stood there before her, livid red eyes, covered in what looked like antique scale mail armor. There was nothing showing that wouldn't be were he clothed in pants and shirt, but it was all scales that came out of his skin.
He stumbled back from her, growling. The problem was, he was trying to speak, but the rage choked him. He was loosing control. Rage... and because of it.. fear. He was about to kill again, he was about to kill her, and... he could not stop himself, could not stop the monster.....

Her wings fanned out again, the downstrokes scattering snow beneath and in front of her as the air around her almost hummed, growling like a diesel engine warming up. The red glow in her wings persisted this time, rather than flashing away.
She didn't expect the display to deter him from attacking, not anymore; it felt like the right thing to do. The right sort of challenge. She wasn't afraid of him, not at all.
At the moment, she feared nothing.
no subject
The final straw.
With a rage of pure fury, his eyes a vibrant liquid gold, the scales exploded outward in a whirlwind as he grew. Expanded. Transformed. The tree beside him took the worst of the damage, his bulk uprooting it, his wing felling it. His tail scored a gash into a tree behind him, and then he was there, covered here and there with snow, somewhere in size between a minivan and a small house, a very VERY angry fire breathing dragon.

That neck was bunched up, coiled like a snake; she made sure to stay away from it. Utsuho had been around so many overt mutants that his appearance didn't seem terribly strange to her.
Instead, the mutant swooped close--but not too close--and swept her arm forwards, scything flame and sparks from her outstretched claws towards the dragon's face.
Um.... how do we stop this....!?
No....no! No! Nononononononononono
She'll be able to hold her own for awhile, but I'll ask for a mod if Bad End is Imminent
And she was all monster.
The winged mutant hissed and snarled, the sound boiling out of her broad chest like an echo of the fire that burned at the edges of her wings. Now that she had warmed up, her wings responded quickly; she beat them in a downstroke, propelling herself mostly out of the way of that tail. It still clipped the end of her wing--which drove her further into the sky, flipping her wings over to take advantage of the brief thermal she had left behind her and climb into the cold air.
Okay, I will follow your lead, when you want us to get a Mod, we get a mod.
He didn't take to the air, no room at this point, and even though he was trying to control the monster, part of him, somewhere, was driving the monster. In other words, the dragon that was Tiamaris THINKS, reasons, but it's all strategy, not of it sees the wisdom that the rest of him is screaming - that this is wrong!
Tail failing his neck uncoiled, that head reaching up, snapping at her, trying to pluck her out of the sky as he paced her from the ground, shuddering the earth with every step. Tiamaris the scared boy was horrified and terrified. Tiamaris the dragon... wanted to eat her. And the dragon was in control.
The dragon folded it's great wings tight to it's body as if protecting a vulnerability, either the wings themselves, or under the wings. A ploy, a deliberate lure. There was no weakness there, but strength, his wings could deliver a blow more powerful than his forelegs could.

The dragon's teeth caught feathers midway down one of her wings, soft ones that nonetheless tugged unpleasantly even as Utsuho shrieked, a birdlike, near-bellowing sound. She responded with a blast of intense heat and flickering flame, yanking her wing back until the feathers tore loose and let her backwing away out of reach. That hurt, leaving a visibly ragged patch and gap in the lower flight surface of her wing, she could still fly.
Talking was hard; fighting was easy. Simpler. Action-reaction-act again.
Did it not want to fly? Utsuho had a slight advantage in that she had already gained some height; she continued to climb after she had escaped, circling higher. More altitude, more speed, more damage when she dropped on that perceived weakness. The dragon seemed to be getting smaller the further up she went, surely squashing it would be easy.

(OOC: we might want to get a mod soon anyway, a - so they don't get expelled, and b - because realistically. SOMEONE should have noticed this by now, lol. Of course, I think they did a decent job of snow removal for this area...)
