"... the hashtag has inspired several high profile mutants in the entertainment world, particularly mutant pop star Dazzler, to put up personal accounts of the discriminations they've faced growing up as mutants. However, the Mutant Liberation Front, or at least hackers claiming to be them, have seemingly hijacked the movement on several social media sites, using the hashtag while "doxxing", defined as "sharing the private personal information of an individual or group, anyone that has publicly spoken out against mutants. The internet has become a battleground like any city street..."
"... special diplomat Haller faced many questions arriving back in the United States today. She has stated she had no comments on Genosha's threat of war against the US. President Kelly's diplomatic relations with Genosha have largely been criticized as failures, and many in congress and in the public in general seem to be in favor of preparing for the inevitable..."
"... Reverend William Stryker, uncle to the late Donovan Zane, has lead a vigil lasting several days now on the steps of Congress and refuses to be moved until Mutant Registration has been passed. Public support is turning overwhelmingly in favor of registration as the nation mourns the young man, Donovan Zane, whose life was taken in the midst of a violent protest..."
"... with the coldest temperatures on record. Volunteers are urging everyone in District X to be extra careful as the season progresses, to regularly visit the shelters and soup kitchens, and to not try to brave the winter storms alone. They have also put out a mass call to anyone willing to help out, with food, blankets, and/or warm clothing..."
"... a nation on the brink of war. President Kelly addressed the nation saying that 2019 will not be a repeat of historical mistakes or tragedies. He says he refuses to believe the spirit of the American people are so willing to give in to bigotry and surrender to what is perceived as an inevitable war with Genosha. It can be stopped, he urged. He said we all have to look at ourselves and find the courage to do the right thing and love our fellow person, no matter what the circumstances. President Kelly continues to believe in his vision of hope for humans and mutants..."

M’gann flinches for a second when she catches that look, causing her previously levitating textbooks to all fly into her arms for an added barrier. A second passes by as she tries to stammer out something; an apology or a question about that look, when she picks out the news report and glances at the screen.]
“Not good news for studying? That’s what you’re scowling over, right?”
[Might as well double check that to make absolutely sure.]
there was supposed to be another bracket around the middle of that.... oops
It's not good news for anything, let alone studying. Why? What else would I be scowling over?
[He gives her a slightly confused look as he tries to figure out the context of her second question.]
it's cool!
[So she's still in the clear so far when it comes to glowers and first impressions? Good. M'gann decides not to let go of those books yet however, and even stifles that need to float when it comes to moving. Instead she walks over to where he's sitting, like a mostly-normal (except for the green skin) girl.]
"Can I ask what you're studying?"
[She tries speaking over the news about the vigil.]

[Mostly he's just glad the 'American Revolution' part of the syllabus is over and they're onto the 'Civil War'. That module is kind of uncomfortable when you're the only English guy in the room.]

[She puts her books down on the table as she says that, and sure enough a history textbook is on the top. Then again, if they're taking the class on different times then maybe the course material has a different vibe to it. For all she knows, the instructor might be all warmed up by the time she has the class.]
"It's the first time I'm really learning about it in depth, though... or not pieced together through a bunch of recordings."
[It's a little awkward to admit that, as the blue on her face shows.]
no subject
(eta to above: red blush, not blue orz)
[Actually, she's a little TOO proud of herself for hearing 'King George' and recognizing who that is. She's learning how to be a mostly normal girl! Complete with understanding-
Well, not popular culture exactly, but 'common knowledge' culture at least.]
"You're... not from here, though? Overseas?"
[She might be just a bit nosy, but M'gann still has to ask. She even leans forward a little as she speaks, all curiosity.]

[Alex lets his accent slip back to is natural state. While he still hasn't perfected his American accent, he's able to tone down his British accent enough so it almost sounds like he's just some posh rich kid. But in response to her question, he goes full London for her.]
I'm from England. London, specifically.
[He doesn't mind this level of curiosity.]

[She squeaks the last word, checking herself when M'gann realizes her volume is getting a little too loud. When she continues her voice has dropped a few decibels, but still sounds VERY chirpy. Especially when she hears the accent.]
"Sorry, that's just really interesting! I've never really met anyone from outside the country before... probably part of the territory with growing up in Mars. Arizona, I mean. Mars Arizona."
no subject
Well, I've never met anyone from Mars, Arizona before.
[He hadn't even known there was a place called Mars in Arizona, though it does sort of make sense. Nor has he ever been to Arizona.]
I don't know if it's all that interesting. Being from England, I mean. It's where I'm from, that's about it.

[She shrugs, still with a mega-watt grin in place.]
"Probably why I like History and Home Economics and all those other classes so much, too!"

School is fun. It's just the homework that can be a bit of a slog. And as much as most teenagers tend to complain about it, I find school to be much better than the alternative.
