Hellfire Club: The Mission [CLOSED]
WHO: Nightcrawler and those selected for the mission.
WHAT: The Hellfire Club infiltration mission
WHERE: Manhattan
WHEN: Late evening
WARNING(S): Could get violent.
Team One was already on the ground, infiltrating the party. The rest waited in silence aboard the Blackbird, hovering in complete stealth mode high above the island. Back at the Institute, Professor X closely monitored the communications of the team, ready to give the signal when ready...
It was go time.
[[ OKAY HERE'S HOW IT'S GOING TO GO.
Top levels will be going up for each mission phase. Each phase will, OOCly, go on simultaneously so no one has to wait for another team to complete their task. Players have freedom to play as they like, but the mod characters in each team (Feliks, Shindou, Reimu) will most likely lead the action in the direction it's intended to go. The mod account will pop in for NPCing every now and again.
Have fun! ]]

Which meant that their best bet was to break off from each other and scope out as much of the facility as they could before anyone realized it'd been infiltrated. And, since Laura had already claimed her group and Toushirou seemed to have the right idea about how to split the rest of them, he moved over to Aqua's side and looked her way. After a brief beat, he nodded back for Rin to join them as well. They'd split up evenly that way, and with any luck Rin's powers would help them deal with any defensive tech they had to handle without Takane.
"We can branch off this way," he suggested, tilting his head back towards the exit leading past the computer terminals. They did have the squad's second hacker, after all. "I mean, if that works, Miss - ah, Master Aqua?"

This must be something like a control center for Shaw Industries' more heavily classified projects or for internal security or something. In any case, the room is dominated by computer set-ups, all locked and facing a wall taken up entirely by an electronic display. Video feeds show numerous sections of the building's operations: the party going on several floors overhead, a warehouse-like space containing rows of deactivated, black-and-white robots...and Laura's team, elsewhere, under fire from two decidedly more live models. Several other video screens are blacked out with no indication as to why.
Shaw isn't here, but there is an apparent wealth of information ready at the group's fingertips and no obvious resistance coming at them. Whether to press forward or see what they can find remains up to them.]

In other words, were they in trouble enough that this team should abort to come to their aid.

Which made the most sense, given her ineptitude with technology.

"ALERT: Submit optical and fingerprint scan now for security authorization."
He frowed and turned back towards Rin. That didn't sound promising.
"Do you have a way to get us past this?"

With a little help from her mutation, in this case. Brow furrowing, she pushed the sounds of the video feed and the other thoughts inside her head aside as best she could, focusing on getting just enough energy running through the silicon hidden inside.

And the team might not have it, because the doors at either end of the room slide back open at that point. Standing in each one is a vaguely humanoid figure, their black, mesh frames hardly concealing the wiring beneath. But the smooth, glinting metal along their arms will be familiar to anyone who's seen the cybernetic implants the Friends of Humanity have recently been using.
One whips its attachment in the direction of where Rin and Shindou are standing, sending a sudden, hissing blast of air their way, easily strong enough to throw a grown adult off their feet. The other, coming in from the doorway the team entered from, picks out Aqua and rushes towards her to throw a punch with one heavy, metallic hand. It's fast and packing enough force that getting caught by the blow would be a seriously bad idea.]

As the hand moved through her, she slammed a hand into her arm to activate her armor. Then as she had practiced when she took the power, she pulled the intangibility off of the armor. Trapping, she hoped, the arm in her armor. It would need to be repaired. And then, if it all worked... she called upon another borrowed power, and sent electricity along the outer surface of the outer armor, as she stepped back out of it. HOPEFULLY the thing would fall fried...

"Damn—!" Automatically, she shouted as she dove to the ground, her hand already buried in the pocket of her uniform before she hit the floor. With a swing of her arm, she sends a piece of quartz skidding across the floor, the crystal bursting in her robotic attacker's path with a thunderclap of light and sound. Hopefully, that would be enough force to unbalance it, but—

For now, chancing his power boost cutting off communication was still too risky, but they had to act fast.
"Rin, take care of the computer! We can handle this one - " he insisted, rising off the floor and bolting out in front of the second construct's path. If he could take its aim off Rin and the computer bank and distract it long enough for Aqua to take it down, maybe...?

Across the room, Rin's projectile is enough to stagger the second 'bot, throwing it back towards the door, but not to take it off its feet. It rights itself with a creaking, clicking noise, and then that changes into twin, shrieking whistles as its arms snap forward to throw a pair blast, aimed in Aqua and Shindou's direction.]

No time to knock the thing aside, she dives for Shindou, trying to knock him to the ground, trying to land atop him, to shield him from the blow. Retaliation could come after.

First thing was first, though. All the monitors went on, Rin flicking each option in rapid succession. With that done, she immediately dropped into a crouch again, neck craning back to watch the screens above as her hand slipped along the machine below.

Aqua hit Shindou before the blast could, and they toppled to the floor together right as it gusted over them. Even then, with the thing wielding both of its arms at them, the resulting wind was nearly enough to threaten to pick them up from the floor and fling them for the nearest wall. Shindou pressed himself down as firmly as he could, letting loose a tense growl.
Damn it, that hadn't been any good. He'd barely been able to distract it, and now he was in no position to fight back...!
no subject
And the remaining 'bot doesn't feel like letting her get any further. As soon as Aqua and Shindou hit the floor, its attention turns again, and its arms began to swing, as it prepared to throw a series of rapid-fire gusts her way.]
