Hellfire Club: The Mission [CLOSED]

WHO: Nightcrawler and those selected for the mission.
WHAT: The Hellfire Club infiltration mission
WHERE: Manhattan

Team One was already on the ground, infiltrating the party. The rest waited in silence aboard the Blackbird, hovering in complete stealth mode high above the island. Back at the Institute, Professor X closely monitored the communications of the team, ready to give the signal when ready...

It was go time.

[[ OKAY HERE'S HOW IT'S GOING TO GO.

Top levels will be going up for each mission phase. Each phase will, OOCly, go on simultaneously so no one has to wait for another team to complete their task. Players have freedom to play as they like, but the mod characters in each team (Feliks, Shindou, Reimu) will most likely lead the action in the direction it's intended to go. The mod account will pop in for NPCing every now and again.

X-23 had very good reaction times, she was very fast and very strong. She came into the room first, hoping to catch any threat before it could be a danger to Kanji. And she failed, the weapons armed and she had a choice. If the blast was aimed at her, she could evade it, if it was aimed at Kanji and Takane... one of them could die. Which was why she slammed Kanji out of the way of the energy bolt taking the hit and being slammed into the wall.

"They smashed first." X-23 will get up in a moment, that sorta hurt. She will have 'words' with one of those contraptions in a moment.

Damn! Kanji awkwardly tries to aim his landing so that he's taking the force of the fall rather than Takane, but all it results in his lying stunned for a little.

Ow.

"Tch. No kiddin'." He looks at their leader with a spot of worry - experienced, powers or no, that still looked like it hurt - before he gently makes sure that Takane's alright and starts to get to his feet himself. Sparks flood into Kanji's own hands to match the advancing robot, and into his eyes; he rushes in, hurling an electrical blast at it to try and overload its systems. The one shooting at them from the back might be a problem for him, but this one is far more his thing... Time to fight fire with fire?

[The blast connects with the white 'bot, slowing and seeming to almost stagger it. It jolts in place, and then with little warning there's a sharp crack as one its metallic arms breaks off at the shoulder with a billow of smoke and embers spilling from the joint. Yet the rest of the machine keeps coming, its gait gone erratic but still surprisingly fast as it gets into range to swing its remaining arm for Kanji's side. And, while the electricity crackling across them may be no problem for him, those claws it's packing are still sharp.

Across the room, meanwhile, the black 'bot steps out from its charging station and paces forward just far enough to fix its "gaze" on where Takane's been left settled against the wall...]

X-23 rose to one knee, drew her firearm and put three rounds center mass on the black bot. If the targeting algorithm it used thought it could attack an undefended member of the party without interference it did not calculate the strategy at hand.

She got up to her feet and fired three more rounds at the optical sensor unit on its head. "Takane, make sure that we are not trapped in here. Then return to your body when able."

Gah. Kanji barely noted the second robot's motion before he saw X-23's fire: still, he had his own problem, after all. Keep his own target away from Takane.

He dodged as soon as he sees the claw coming, letting out a yell of alarm: there are some things that his power might boost, but speed isn't one of them. As it is, it was a close call...
Change of plan. He grabbed for the robot's arm, avoiding the claw, to pull at the current within, draining its power into his own - just hoping he can shut it down before it tried something else.

[The first shot staggers the black 'bot but fails to take it off its feet. The subsequent two, however, do the job, and the machine falls back with a spray of sparks and mechanical whirring. The white 'bot doesn't last much longer. Draining its battery isn't a quick process, but in the meantime it can only flail its one remaining arm in Kanji's grip, even as its charge powers him up. Finally, it begins to slow, going limp in his grasp as it dies out.

That leaves the room clear for investigation, though most of the computer systems here seem geared towards project maintenance, at a glance. Across the room, another sliding, metal door leads through to another chamber.]

Whoo. Kanji's heart's racing both with adrenalin and from the recharge: man, that worked better than he thought it was going to. He grins, throws the robot aside and gives an enthusiastic pump of an arm-

"Hell yeah!" ... Ah, back to telepathy for anything worthwhile. "Alright, let's see what's in here..." He's not a techy type, though, so most of what he's seeing's going over his head as he looks around. "Gonna leave decodin' this stuff to someone else." Such as their resident hacker, who he'll lead into place once she's done taking a look around the system. Keeping both of them out of the line of fire of anything that's going to come through that door, mind, and waiting for orders impatiently...

Don't think that Laura is overly paranoid... but she just wants to be very sure that neither of these machines are capable of further combat. Snikt! Laura is just going to remove their arms and head to be very sure that they are not still dangerous.

She glares death at Kanji for his little outburst, then turns to the new door. Given how their last time through a door went, and this room was (relatively) safe. "You and Takane's body remain here, I will clear the room before Takane and I attempt to gather information."

With that she heads to the new chamber, hoping that Takane's mind can follow. On the plus side she isn't bleeding anymore.

[The sliding door pulls aside to reveal a substantially larger chamber. If the previous room was purposed for examination and maintenance, this one is clearly some type of storage hub: Rows of the same type of charging station that the black 'bot had come out of line each wall, closed in by blue-green glass and marked with unit numbers. There are easily three dozen of the stations in total, all but a spare few occupied. All of the 'bots within, though, are thankfully motionless.

At least until the portal closes once again. Then, several of the stations' covers begin to retract as their units come to life. Streams of letters and numbers rush across most of the others, like a display screen of sorts - some kind of "booting up" process?

Laura won't have much time to think on it, because as soon as the first 'bot is out of its chamber it's coming straight for her, gliding rapidly across the floor. This one's black exterior swoops up into a vaguely equine shape around its head; both its arms are tipped with a long, sharp, and rapidly vibrating spike. And while that black knight is rushing in to attempt to spear Laura, more of its kind are waking up...

If Takane hurries, she might be able to shut down some of the 'bots that haven't gotten free from their ports yet, but otherwise the numbers are going to be out of the team's favor very soon.]

This was unfortunate. Not only was she not finding valuable information, she was about to waste time. Also she was not sure on her chances of taking on these numbers without being injured.

"Takane disable the entire section now. Focus on the robotic defenses." X-23 was not liking how active the security system was, and growled in frustration as she prepared. At least without anyone to defend she could just begin the way she liked. By sweeping her leg out and slashing her claw for the legs of the first robot on its approach.

The more damage she does here, the better she will feel. At least.

Dammit. Sitting around and waiting for trouble? Not Kanji's style. Especially when he can hear what's happening next door. As it is, he's just checking around in case anything does start up again here, glancing at Takane's still form - she should have some of those things handled, right?

He brings up a handful of electricity, absorbs it back, pulls it out again, ready to hit anything that comes through that door or any other direction...

[Shutting everything down isn't quite so simple. There's no single plug Takane can pull within the system. Instead, each unit has to be disabled individually...and so, for every one 'bot that's boot-up screen suddenly dies, there are two more still slowly coming to life.

Nor is the advanced model X-23 swipes at so easily taken down. It's built for maneuverability, and as she swings for it there's a burst of speed as the hover-pads built in along its feet throw it to one side, around the blow. Then it's darting in, one of its spears thrusting for Laura's gut as the other slashes for her throat.

The other units waking up seem to figure it has her handled for the time being, too, because they're going for the other nearest life signs - Kanji's and Takane's. Marching for the door, a pair of droids quite like the first stride through. They'll meet Kanji blast for blast, firing the same type of concussive bolts the team's already dealt with.]

Laura, fortunately, was born with more applicable weapons than her genetic source material. She holds her ground as it rushes her again, she uses the claws in her hands to parry the strike meant for her throat.

And launches a boot up to try and cut off the arm aimed for her gut. Not really caring if that spear hits her or not.

"We are experiencing... complications. On our end."

No kidding, 'complications'. Kanji lets off a torrent of sparks in the approaching robots' direction as soon as he sees them, attempting to aim for their own weaponry in the split second he has to act - in any case, he's throwing a wide enough blast that he'll hopefully hit something.

It's not going to be that simple, though. Acting to shield Takane, he yells as a blast hits and knocks him down.

[The knight's arm shears off just below its shoulder -- just a split-second after the attached spear pierces deep into Laura's gut. Immediately, it's rearing back with its remaining weapon to try to strike at her chest, this time. But the loss has it off-balance and with no way to guard itself as it attacks...

Kanji's lightning, meanwhile, hits home across the entirety of the doorway, both 'bots taking the brunt of it. Even as he's tumbling back, the unit that struck him is hitting the floor, its head and one of its limbs having loosened from its body in a jolt of flame. The other stays standing, but it's smoking heavily...and seems to be more interested in walking straight into the adjacent wall over and over than in coming after its target.

There's more where that came from, though. By now, most of the units that were fully deactivated have had time to wake up. And, though Takane's managed to put the majority back into sleep mode, there are still a solid dozen containment pods sliding open...]
