January Alt Event [OPENish]

WHO: Any characters not specifically being used for the Hellfire Club Event
WHAT: Volunteering to help disadvantaged and underprivileged mutants in the cold harsh winter.
WHERE: District X (located in Alphabet City, Manhattan)
WHEN: Middle of the week
WARNING(S): With the FoH possibly jumping in, this could get rough.

At the very least, the snowfall wasn't blizzard strength today. But it was making the work of unloading the trucks at the community center difficult. But the kitchen was cooking, the fires were going, and up and down the block, families lined up to get blankets, to get food, and get some hope from a group many of them considered to be heroes for entirely different reasons than most did...

The X-Men.

It was time to move to his second shift, as Zian was worried he was going to run out of zaps before he finished with the people here. So he left Takakage and Gregory to care for the few mutants left and grabbed his bag of medical supplies.

Walking over to some of the security people, he gave a little wave before he started signing. "Hey, can I borrow one of you guys for a moment? I need to get to the nearest manhole and it's down one of the alleys... kinda don't want to go alone with the Friend of Humanity dudes around." The translator's voice was as flat as always, but Zian's face was reflecting his worry quite enough.

It is debatable whether or not Souji should be on security duty, what with his slight control issues and all, but he's already done duty as just about everything else, and... well, he does have an offensive power, doesn't he? So it would be kind of silly of him not to put it to good use. He can tell that people are worried about the potential of being attacked, and he can't see what could be so bad with using his powers, as long as he does it against bad people.

He spins around and greets Zian with a cheerful smile, attaching himself to his side as soon as he's stopped signing. He doesn't look like much of a body guard, but among mutants that hardly means a thing. "Of course! I imagine no one should go alone anywhere right now, right? That's only sensible."

Souji looked absolutely tiny at the side of the seven-foot purple medic, but Zian beams at the student, happy to have an escort of some kind. Just the nice cheerfulness from the long-haired guy eased some of his own nervous jitters, and if Souji was on guard duty then obviously he could deal with any attackers, size aside.

"Yeah, I didn't think it was a good idea." Especially not when you looked like him - he look be intimidating but he was utterly useless in any fight.

"I'm Zian, the school nurse," he continues with a friendly wave. "I'm just gonna go down and help treat the more hidden part of the population. I usually do it from a manhole near my mom's so I've never have to be in public like this."

He starts walking, breaking away from the crowd to head for the alley.

"I'm not really that used to being a lot in public either," Souji agreed, which might sound a little bit absurd when he was walking right next to someone who was seven feet tall and purple. He himself looks fairly normal, save for the fact that maybe not a lot of Japanese people have indigo eyes, almost bordering on purple, and a slight blueish-purple sheen to his hair when light fell on it from some angles. Perhaps he looked a bit more skinny and pale than most people, too, and that part was definitely connected to his mutation. But really, those weren't the reasons he'd stayed away from people so much; it wasn't so much what others might do to him, as what he might do to them.

He tagged along obediently, figuring that Zian knew where he wanted to go, and he only had to keep watch.

"Oh, and if you're the school nurse, I think I have a checkup with you soon. I've always needed to have them quite often, all my life, so it's no trouble when it's a stranger really, but it is nice to have met you properly first."

"Really?" Zian said with a surprised look. The other guy seemed as normal as any, but mutations usually came with a whole suitcase of problems - especially if you weren't born one. At least he knew he was different from the day one. Still, he's not going to push the subject, instead listening to Souji as they entered the alley.

"Oh, you do? I think I have two in my calendar right now, so I guess you're Okita? You don't look like an Ellen." The medic makes a little breathy sound that might be a laugh for a man with no voice. "Is there anything special or just a normal checkup?"

It was as good a conversation than any, and he only stops for s brief moment to check his sewer access map.

"Sometimes, my mutation can get me in trouble." That seemed to pretty much cover it as far as Souji was concerned, because really, what else was there to say? Well, he could have said that he was volatile and lacked control, but that didn't exactly seem like it would inspire confidence in him as a good escort. He was sure he was, because after all, his power was meant for protection.

It was just very... aggressive protection.

"And yes, that's me. Oki- Souji Okita. I still get the order wrong." He laughs too, shrugging his narrow shoulders lightly. "And it's pretty normal for me, but I'm not actually sure. My mutation means I get sick a lot easier than other people, and it makes it hard for me to sleep properly, that sort of thing. So I need doctor checkups regularly to keep an eye on things, I guess."

He doesn't comment on the first thing, understanding that fully. There was no need to get into detail; especially not if it had given him trouble in the past. Zian wasn't the type to poke at scabs.

Instead the medic gives Souji a scrutinizing medical look before grinning under the mask. "Sounds like you need to come visit me once a week! My powers can boost the immune system to prevent or fix illnesses." He wiggles one finger a bit, that definitely wasn't a sign but more a dorky 'demonstration' of his powers. Giant nerd, right here.

"It should give you a better chance!"

That certainly makes Souji's face light up in a 1000 megawatt smile, because really, that is far better than he expected. He'll still be saddled with damaged lungs from persistent sarcoidosis and general sleeping problems, but actually lowering the chance of constantly suffering colds and influenzas sounds like heaven.

"Really? They say that my mutation causes everything controlled by my parasympathetic nervous system to suffer, but if there is a way to give at least my immune systems a boost, that would be great." He makes a small grimace. "I'm so tired of having fevers all the time. Having to stay still every other week at winter is just no fun."

Oh my, that was an adorable smile and it makes Zian beam as well. How could he not? "Really. It's what I do for a living, after all. If I can even make things a little better, I'm happy to help."

Souji's issues sounded complicated, though, and he could only imagine how hard it must be to feel ill all the time. Despite his own lack of a throat and all the issues that had brought, he had never felt sick. Just weird.

"We should make it a reoccurring thing, then. Once a week for a small tap, just to boost you. It may hurt a bit, like getting a static shock." Or worse, depending on just how bad Souji's immune system was.
