January Alt Event [OPENish]
WHO: Any characters not specifically being used for the Hellfire Club Event
WHAT: Volunteering to help disadvantaged and underprivileged mutants in the cold harsh winter.
WHERE: District X (located in Alphabet City, Manhattan)
WHEN: Middle of the week
WARNING(S): With the FoH possibly jumping in, this could get rough.

At the very least, the snowfall wasn't blizzard strength today. But it was making the work of unloading the trucks at the community center difficult. But the kitchen was cooking, the fires were going, and up and down the block, families lined up to get blankets, to get food, and get some hope from a group many of them considered to be heroes for entirely different reasons than most did...

Security

He stood nearby the group, but not entirely too close, since he was smoking at the moment and all. He was watching for trouble to the best of his abilities.]
Re: Security
He did hold his walking stick, leaning on it until he needed to be able to fight, only channeling enough White Fire through himself to stave off numbness and frost bite. One day he would learn to think before he acted.
But as a gust of wind flapped his cape behind him, he grinned, hoping that day would not come too soon.

Re: Security
But... they needed defenders. He had helped defend before. He could do it again. Right?
So he went up to Storm, braced for rejection, eyes a wary dull orange. "How can I help?" he asked, standing there barefoot, unaware of the cold, wearing his last pair of pants, and Alric's shirt.
no subject
"There are many ways you may help. But first, are you certain you are comfortably dressed for the weather? It is easier to help when you yourself are at your best."
no subject
"And the cold does not bother me," he added, realizing that that, not the quantity of items in his wardrobe, was the concern.

The cold didn't bother her
anyway. But her eyes were constantly darting to and fro, looking for the FoH. Noone who wasn't a mutant was getting near the kids if she was at all nearby.Re: OPEN

Also...'sort of'? Well, they could sort that out later.
"I'm Reki. We've been lucky and no shady characters have showed up. Just wander the perimeter, looking for any sign of the FoH...They tend to like matching windbreakers and their symbol's a blue and red eagle. And if you do see them, don't confront them. Run and get me. Got all that?"
She definitely didn't want to find out if she was wrong about her fighting ability if she could avoid it. That was her own responsibility, as teacher and X-Man.

He opened his phone and dialed Principal Munroe.
"My scanners read flat at the 45th street entrance. Moving to hold them."
He began walking briskly in their general direction, close enough to intercept, far enough to pleade innocence if questioned.

So honestly, it's almost a little boring to patrol the area like this.. but he knows it's better than just letting those pompous asses do whatever they want when they show up. If they show up.
He lets out a breath, and with how cold it is, it shows in the air in front of him. ]
You'd think they would've showed up by now.. [ He's mostly talking to himself, but it's quite audible to anyone nearby - they might even think he's talking to them. ]
no subject
[So it's somewhere between jarring and bizarrely comforting to hear the pessimistic thoughts she isn't letting slip from her own lips on someone else's.]
[Instead of agreeing, though, she puts on a look of wide-eyed, if faintly apprehensive, confusion.]
Who would?
no subject
[ He glances a little in her direction when he hears Krista speak up. It doesn't bother him that she's replying to him (he did say it out loud, after all) but it's more curiosity. Most people would have figured who he was talking about, right?
A new girl? Maybe. He doesn't really bother to take notice of too many faces in the school. ]
Who else would show up to annoy us anywhere we go, right? [ Natsuno, you're a ray of sunshine. ]

[Al can appreciate a good soliloquy as much as the next guy, but Natsuno has the misfortune of speaking up while he's leaned against a nearby wall, squinting at something on his phone.
Truth be told, he doesn't fit the mold of a superpowered sentry, either - well past sixty, standing around in a suit that obviously hasn't been new for years now and glowering at the New York winter. But here he is anyway, and since he sure as Hell isn't manning a soup kitchen line and Gem doesn't open its doors 'til five, he's got nothing to do but stand around and watch for trouble.]
They show up today, they ain't just looking to bust heads. They can do that any day of the week down here and not have to worry about near as much blowback coming for it. They show today, and they're going to wait, get as many kids and civilians out in the street as they can, make sure there's a crowd to panic when they climb out from whatever rock they're under.
They get lucky, maybe they get one of Xavier's causing some collateral damage then, trying to keep a student or two out of harm's way. Get that on the six o'clock news, it'd make their fucking week.
no subject
Pretty impressive what he's saying for such an old guy though. Natsuno's experiences with intelligent adults have been..
.. well, few. To put it lightly. Hence why he's at least bothering to be respectful instead of sarcastically quipping something in return. People who know what they're doing? Sure, they can get respect. Even from Natsuno. ] ]
Sounds like something they'd do. [ He still remembers the way he got riled up back at the stores.. but without Luvander in an arm's reach, he doubts the same thing will happen again this time. ]
If they do show up today to do something like that, what's the most likely time for them to show up and try to piss us off? Middle of the day's probably when the most people are out.

He strolls over with a small wave and a grin, just as bright and jaunty as always, but it's still possible to guess at the exhaustion underneath. If nothing else, his skin looks very pale, with a couple of hectic red dots on his cheeks and a hint of a sheen to his eyes.]
Getting impatient, are we? I am sure that if you asked some of the others here, they could somehow arrange an incident for you to solve, if you're starting to feel antsy.
no subject
Much like usually, really. ]
Not everyone needs your level of theatrics. [ Flatly. The usual, really, especially his attitude concerning the other.. although he sighs when he actually turns to look at the other, pushing Luvander a little back and then down by placing his hands on the blonde's shoulders until he's sitting. Some of the benefits of being that strong, really.
He doesn't give an explanation - maybe it's implying that Luvander should just go away or sit down if he's going to be annoying - but it actually means "don't keep standing around when you look tired, moron." ]

Walking over to some of the security people, he gave a little wave before he started signing. "Hey, can I borrow one of you guys for a moment? I need to get to the nearest manhole and it's down one of the alleys... kinda don't want to go alone with the Friend of Humanity dudes around." The translator's voice was as flat as always, but Zian's face was reflecting his worry quite enough.
no subject
He spins around and greets Zian with a cheerful smile, attaching himself to his side as soon as he's stopped signing. He doesn't look like much of a body guard, but among mutants that hardly means a thing. "Of course! I imagine no one should go alone anywhere right now, right? That's only sensible."

"...Thanks. We need to find some discarded plates. I don't want to owe them anything."
He looked at the rats, who looked at the two of them.

"I could take those little scrapes, if you like. But yes, perhaps some reward for your little helpers is a good idea, before they decide that we look edible. There's plenty of leftovers over by the kitchen, I helped gather up the used plates and bowls."
