A Sinister Legacy [PART 2] [OPEN]

WHO: Students and faculty of the Institute, plus some unfortunate SHIELD agents caught in the crossfire
WHAT: Sinster did something, ah... sinister... to Martha, and now the school security systems are attacking anyone and everyone that might interfere with his um... sinister... plans.
WHERE: The Institute
WHEN: STILL ON THE 25TH. TRUST US.
WARNING(S): Violence hooooo

As a reminder, there are THREE ways to be involved with this event:

1. Help the SHIELD agents on the front lawn survive against the school security systems! This will be combat heavy and will involve NPC assists from Nick Fury

2. Help protect other students, and those who can't fight, get to safe places! Not every section of the school is as automated as others and there are places that Sinister's infection of the security systems hasn't reached. This can be combat heavy or not at all, and will involve NPC assists from Storm

3. HELLIONS your girl No Girl needs help. Also the Professor and Logan. Your job is to head to the sublevels and break in to the most heavily secured area of the school and stop whatever is causing things to go haywire, and possibly stop Sinister himself from whatever he has planned. As usual, you will be assisted by Emma.

"There you are!"

Rinka runs over to Kanji, dropping fistfuls of wires and electrical components she's been ripping out what security features she's been able to find.

"This is such a mess. We need to move these kids to a safer location. Maybe the library?"

Okay. Right. He's managed to blast a couple of things, but Rinka's done a better job than him so far. She's snapped him out of his confusion, though: he gives a resolute nod. "Yeah. I like this plan," he says, scanning the scene. "Gotta be the quietest place around here."

Rinka grabbed a few students that were nearby and looking scared. "You want the front or the rear?" she asked Kanji, once she'd gotten some semblance of order out of the students.

"I'll go up front. Can probably take this junk out faster," he says - probably needs to use up a bit of charge, too, because he's not getting it under control fast at all.

And along came Bridget, running on the ceiling. Good thing his powers kept his skirt defying gravity as well.

"Library's locked. We'll need to disable to door."

"Hmmm, then I'd better go ahead. I can get through the door and disable it from the inside. Bridget can you guard the back?"

Bad enough they're having to dismantle or damage the school's security systems; damaging the library doors is counterproductive if people are going to take shelter inside.

Bridget quickly whipped out one of his combat yoyos, nodding.

"I've got you covered. We gotta move fast!"

"No kiddin'!" Kanji glances around - "Alright, everyone, let's go!" he calls out, and starts to head on, waving the group onwards, along with any non-combatants who're around and need their help. After all, they're the ones this is all about...

Rinka runs ahead, paying no heed to what the school is throwing at her. It just goes straight through her. When she reaches the library doors, she pauses for a moment as she shoves her arms through, noticing a little bit of resistance. Not enough to stop her, but enough to tell her there's some sort of reinforced layer. She phases through anyway and starts searching for a panel to open the doors.

It seemed the security design of the room planned for everything, including people who could walk on walls. Bridget was having to do just as much dodging and weaving up there on the ceiling as he would on the floor, especially with the mobile shock turrets trying to stun him...

"I don't mean to rush, but... this is getting a little overwhelming!" Bridget grit his teeth, activating one of the explosive rounds on the yoyo in order to buy them some space.

"I'm on it!" Kanji yells. Wheeling around, he aims for the turrets; blast that one, that one, and aha - that's close enough that he can grab it quickly and drain its charge, before throwing the wreckage into another.

Unfortunately, with the security system going haywire, even once Rinka finds the right panel, it refuses to do anything. She contemplates phasing her hand through it to see if she could make the doors open that way, but if they stayed open that wouldn't make the library a very good hiding place.

Shoving her upper body back through the door, she shouts at her teammates.

"It won't open! I'll have to phase everyone through."

She holds out her hands to the cluster of students.

"Two at a time, grab my hands, and don't let go until I say so!"

Two at a time... shit... were they even going to have that much time? Bridget set off another one of the explosive charges on the yoyo, blasting back the encroaching metal terrors. But he only had two left, having used some before meeting with his teammates...

Kanji's face is grim, glancing across: he's spread-firing his current blasts, now, trying to catch as many of the turrets as he can in one go and grabbing charge out of any turrets that Bridget's disabled.

"C'mon, you heard her, move!"

She could take more and, if it came down to it, she might have to, but she also didn't want to risk accidentally unphasing someone while their foot was still in the door. Grabbing the closest students, she yanked them through the door, letting them go only when she was sure they were clear. Then she reached through the grab the next two.

"We can buy... maybe three more minutes! You gotta hurry!" Bridget shouted back past the noise. Was he crazy, or were the turrets repairing themselves? Their didn't seem to be any end to them, more popping up each time.

Three minutes was plenty. Though she had to waste several seconds shooing students away from the doors so she'd have space to bring the next two through, she yanked everyone through with a quick efficiency. Once the last of the students were inside, she phased back out into the hallway.

"Now you guys! Give me your hands!" No need to pull them into the library; she could just make them intangible too, to give them a few minutes to rest without worrying about getting hit by anything.

Kanji takes a moment before he can even guess what she's getting at, but with a slightly worried look, holds out his arm - sparks are still spitting around his hand, but he's pulling them back as quickly as he can.

The scene's clear for now, at least, and that's something - but still...

"How many was that?"

Rinka grabs his hand without hesitation, jumping a little at the small jolt when their hands touch, but once she's in contact with him all she feels is a slight prickling sensation. Odd, but she'll wonder about that later. In return, she spreads her intangibility to him.

"Almost a dozen. But there's probably more out there."

"And there's no way we're gonna get back out safely the way we came... We're gonna have to find another way around," Bridget looked over to the Library's firedoor.
