Third Trial - By Water

WHAT: Alric practicing with his powers
WHERE: Out over the lake
WHEN: At some quiet time of the day when he's not expecting an audience, a few days during the week
WARNING(S): None anticipated


Alric has been looking for opportunities to cut loose with his powers a little, but short of access to the Danger Room or some other environment designed for the purpose, he's not had a lot of luck. However, the lake makes for a pretty ideal testing ground when it's not populated: he can't really light it on fire or damage it, and the water's huge heat capacity means he can dump a lot of power into it without doing any harm.

In particular, he's working on refining his control with plasma jets to practice hovering--which is the other half of what makes the lake ideal: no harm done if he falls in the water, except maybe to his vanity.

Depending on when someone shows up, he may already look like he's taken a dip or two, or he may be working on some other practice exercise.

Dick whooped at the older boy's success, giving him a standing ovation. "Talk about a flashy entrance."

Not very subtle, but it was just the kind of thing that would make most criminals run for the hills or immediately surrender too, but that was Robin talking.

"Did you remember to bring a towel?"

Alric chuckled at Dick's way of expressing support, brushing his hair back.

"Ah... no, I suppose it is a bit fresh out, but a little cold and damp can be a good motivator."

[turbedon]

"You could always try plasma blasting around your body but that might burn your clothes off and I'm pretty sure there's an unspoken rule about naked people on campus. Especially royalty."

"Probably best not to tempt fate, until I've refined my control a little more. ...besides, I may enjoy immunity from my own plasmas, but if they start an independent fire, but I do not from heat in general. I suspect the attempt would wind up being traumatic for everyone."

[turbedon]

"Pretty much," he agreed with a shrug, smiling still. "At least your control does seem to be improving?"

"Mm. It's slow progress, of course, but I suppose progress always feels slow." He grins lopsidedly to himself at that, since it probably says more about his attitude than it does about his progress. "Ah... what of yourself? You've been settling in well, I hope?"

[turbedon]

"Yeah, I'm doing alright," he answered flippantly. "It's not that different from my old school beyond the occasional green classmate."

"Indeed..? I confess, I can't really judge; I've only ever been educated at home, by tutors, myself..."

[turbedon]

"From my experience it's more or less the same then," he answered with a shrug. "Still get the teen drama, the annoying homework, all of that."

[knighterrantofthedragon]

Alric chuckles, scratching at the back of his head.

"...I suppose I am rather peculiar, with regards to the homework. I rather like having something to do. I get... antsy, in a word, otherwise. Product of my upbringing, I suppose. ...but yes, I suppose I have noticed the 'teen drama,' as you put it..."

"It's one way to keep busy."

He then shook his head and snickered again as he glanced over Alric's soaked state. "How about we get you inside and dried up before you catch a cold and start sneezing plasma shots?"

"..ah... haha, well, I don't believe that's quite how it works... but yes, I suppose I could do with a break."

[turbedon]

"Don't knock it until you've tried it."

[knighterrantofthedragon]

"...sneezing plasma? I'll pass on that, for now, if it's all right."

[turbedon]

The younger boy sniggers at the thought and points out, "You could try training that so you can shoot out projectile plasma snot at your enemies."

Classy, Dick.

Alric raises his eyebrows at that--tilts his head--chuckles, glancing off to the side.

"...charming as that sounds..."

[turbedon]

"You never know. The enemy certainly wouldn't be expecting you to shoot plasma pellets from your nostrils," he shrugs.

Alric just smirked at that suggestion.

"No. No, I should hope not. Really, I should hope no one would expect that."

[turbedon]

"It'd be great for a last resort."

Dick sees absolutely no issue with having at least one ace in the hole.

"Let's hope I needn't burn through so many resorts that I reach that one, then."

[turbedon]

"Obviously, but it never hurts to be prepared," he chuckles.

[knighterrantofthedragon]

"Mm, certainly. I do try to cultivate a contingency or two, when possible."

[turbedon]

"See, that's forward thinking."

[knighterrantofthedragon]

"Mm. A critical skill to develop, in fencing."

[turbedon]

"Or stowing plasma snot," he answers solemnly, barely hiding his grin as he slowly starts leading them to the dorms so someone can get dried and changed.
