He pauses, still astonished at himself, and blushing greener by the second. But he's stepped in it now, and the only way to get out, he thinks, is to slog through this uncomfortable swamp.

"Do you think they're going to call you one of the good ones if you use their slurs on me?"

"Of course I don't. They'll fear me, and they're right to!" Eren isn't trying to ingratiate himself with anyone, and he dislikes the very idea. "I'm not trying to get anything for myself. I'm not a hypocrite."

"Then your being a sellout can't be explained through delusion." Liir would much rather be most anywhere else right now. But he can't think of a way to end this little kerfluffle gracefully, so now he has to see it through.

"I'm not a sellout of anything! I love humanity and I'll die for humanity!"

Unlike Liir, Eren has the temper and stubbornness to propel him through any argument. Or, looking at it another way, his lack of reflection doesn't go a long way toward conflict avoidance or reconciliation.

"Are you ignorant of how this ends or are you going to keep loving them from a camp?"

Which ignored one big thing: Jewish people, for instance, usually can't set you on fire with their mind. They're strong words, but Liir doesn't put any particular bite to them. He's never met anyone like Eren, even in the army, so he hasn't enough experience to get quite that mad yet, only a little confused.

"You're an idiot. Who said anything about that? This is a list. For people's safety. To prevent the hundreds, if not thousands, of deaths that are caused every year in this country by mutants with fatal powers. But keep making your illogical arguments if that's what you want to do! They just make you sound stupid." Eren's not a very good debater, but he's used to the kinds of arguments people throw at the Friends of Humanity.

"And you have the historical memory of a goldfish if you don't remember how Genosha used to be, and how that started." He said, grimacing, feeling the strange sensation of passion for a subject and not at all getting that this wasn't a terrible insult for most people.

"I know history. I also know this is America. It's not the same at all. And there are other countries with lists that don't have camps, if you want to talk about current events." Eren really can't fit in anywhere. Back home, he'd always been arguing with the extremists. Here, he's arguing with (almost) everyone.

"Ah, that particular American disease, exceptionalism. At least in Oz, we don't pretend it's anything else."

He seems to have simmered down a bit. He flexes his fingers, feeling them tremble. It's not like he's a stranger to conflict. But this feels different.

"I don't care what you think about it." He's not going to listen to anyone badmouth America. "You can't just go saying it's the same, though, because it isn't. Nothing like that is happening! So comparing it is just stupid."
