Something Sinister in the air...

WHO: Everyone
WHAT: The news of the world, brought right to your school!
WHERE: On any television, radio, or computer screen (assuming they're on a news site)
WHEN: All week
WARNING(S): if a thread goes into warning label territory, either throw it in the subject line or take it to a separate log.

"... since X-Day, it would appear that activity of both the Friends of Humanity and the Mutant Liberation Front have been largely contained. Authorities still urge caution, of course, but as far as the continuing violence is concerned, the streets are a little safer now. However, the leaders of both organizations are still at large. The FBI, along with SHIELD, have requested that any information to the whereabouts of MLF or FoH leadership be brought to them as quickly and discreetly as possible..."

"... holding her first concert since the violence broke out and her original tour was cancelled. Tickets to victims of anti-mutant violence were given entirely for free. Dazzler herself was quoted saying that now was a needed time for healing, and music plays an important role in that. She wants her fans to know that she is here for them, and she will do everything she can to help mutants still struggling in the wake of hatred and violence..."

"... Stryker has said that his vigil, continuing again after being released from the hospital, will continue until Claudine Renko, whom he holds personally responsible for the death of his son as well as the X-Day riots, is brought to justice. Senator Graydon Creed and the other Last Stand lawmakers have said they will stand with Reverend Stryker for the same goal. Creed went on to say that the only way from preventing something like X-Day from happening again is to pass the Mutant Registration Act, finally..."

"... Gabrielle Haller claiming that she and Genosha leadership have come to an agreement to stall potential international aggressions. The Passover Accords, as they are being called, were signed by both President Kelly and President Lensherr, sealing an agreement of non-aggression between the two powers, even if only temporarily..."

"... was released from SHIELD custody today and will stand trial for multiple accounts of fraud as well as the attack on the Xavier Institute of Higher Learning. John Sublime plead guilty to all charges, and expressed his regret that his obsession lead to such horrible acts. He reiterated that all he wished for in his Third Species movement was for peace between human and mutant, and a better understanding of each other..."

... I know. And in his heart, he knows that too. Even from this far... I can see the guilt in his eyes.

I miss him... but I don't think I'm ever going to see him again.

Then he's doing the right thing now. If I ever did something like that, I would want to be punished to the fullest extent of the law!

But I wouldn't do that.

[It's not that he's altered his political views, but he's come to believe that acts of terror are always the wrong choice. You should never hurt innocent people! Although war and self-defense are something else.]

Can you tell things like that?

[He's not sure if she means that literally or figuratively. It's hard to tell with people's powers, and powers like that still make him wary. After a brief hesitation, he adds in a rush:]

I know how you feel.

[ She gave him an examining look. She knew him from the dossier... Mutant, orphaned, taken in by the FoH, indoctrinated in radicalism, left the school briefly... He seemed a lot more mello than the last time she saw him around campus. ]

It's not really a power thing. I just... knew John well. Better than anyone, I think... but even he couldn't tell me why he did those horrible things. Because he wanted to protect me... He was willing to sacrifice a few people to save billions, but I still wonder if he wasn't just being manipulated in the end.

Xavier said that Sublime had been visited by a prophet. Someone who gave him a vision so intense and real that it made him believe, with full heart, what he was doing in order to prevent a terrible future. But I never met that prophet. He never told me about him. I never once thought to look inside his head for it. I just... trusted him to know what he was doing. But then he attacked the school, and...

... Sorry to be dumping this all on you.

That doesn't sound like a prophet. It sounds like a liar. Or mind control. If someone can use their mutation to make people believe things that aren't true, then they're dangerous and should be stopped!

A few people? I know those people didn't think of it that way! That was their health and their lives he took away. He attacked little kids and innocent citizens. That isn't something I can ever forgive. I can't understand why anyone would do that. It doesn't matter if they'd seen a vision.

[He shakes his head, meaning that he doesn't understand, but also that she doesn't need to apologize for telling him.]

I'd rather know the truth. Even if I don't like it.

When it's the only family you've got... you become a lot more willing to believe things, even if you know in your heart they're wrong.

[personal profile] garganteren 2015-04-24 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
...maybe that's true.

[He doesn't agree with all his adoptive family's decisions, and they had decided on things that... in retrospect, had been bad ideas.]

But I don't think it's any excuse, if someone does something because their family did it. Especially if they knew it was wrong.

I guess you're right... Trust me, I don't plan on following in his footsteps.

That's good, because I won't tolerate terrorism.

[It's not as if he, on his own, can stand against terrorism as a whole, but he'd try!]

... Eren Yeager, right? [She tried not to be too presumptuous, but she definitely knew who he was, and his background.]

You understand saying that, that the Friends of Humanity are considered terrorists these days, right?
garganteren: (23)

[personal profile] garganteren 2015-04-26 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
[He hesitates for a moment.]

I understand. I'm not a member of the Friends of Humanity.

[It's not that it's not painful to say that. They wouldn't include him as a member anyway, and those are their rules. He'll respect them. What's most important is that no one is hurt, like—other people were.]

They're not all terrorists! Any more than all of you are. But I'm against terrorists, no matter what. Just like I'm for humanity.

That reaction you just had? Think about it next time you talk about someone's family like you have been.

I know what John did was wrong and I don't need to be reminded by you. I get a reminder every single day. [She brushed past him, effectively ending the conversation.]
garganteren: (32)

[personal profile] garganteren 2015-04-26 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
What? That's not—

[His reaction was because of what his family had done to him and because he had to repudiate them. It wasn't due to what she'd said about them, but the fact that he couldn't be with them anymore. If members of the Friends of Humanity were to perform acts of terrorism, obviously they should be punished, just like Sublime has been. He'd say the same about anyone who'd do that. It wouldn't matter who they were.]

I didn't say anything wrong. I stand by it.

[[ooc: oops, sorry, I forgot the full content of their earlier conversation! although sadly, that doesn't change anything Eren said.]]
