Club Week! [OPEN]
WHO: Everyone!
WHAT: Club Week is underway, and now we have booths set up for people to really recruit and get their ideas out there. Several NPC clubs have been set up as well. Plus, once again, if you want to get in on some X-Men team building, now's a great time for it.
WHERE: The school foyer
WHEN: Wednesday after classes
WARNING(S): None. If threads go into warning territory, please make a new post for their continuation
It's about halfway into the second week of school. People are already starting to form friendships, build social circles, and embrace student life on the Xavier campus. The faculty has set up several booths in the foyer after normal classes on Wednesday in order for students to centralize recruiting for their various interest groups. Some familiar names pop up, of course. "Anime Club", "Chess Club", "AV Club", "Soccer Club", "Glee Club", "GSA Club", "Bible Study Club" and others. It's a pretty inclusive school, after all, so why not have a broad representation of interests?
As classes let out, students are encouraged to look around, get involved, and otherwise put forth the foundation of their social lives for the school year. And of course, there's always people looking to put together teams for other purposes, too...
[[ ooc: Feel free to make top levels for your own groups, or just post open top levels with no specific group in mind ]]

School Defense Team
*Maya was sitting on the table with her brightly colored (in marker) sign for the school defense team. Unlike the standard X-Team uniform colors, she choose a pale yellow and sky blue instead of the darker gold and blue of the uniforms when she started at the school. There were signs outlining several events in the past that would make a current student paranoid, as well as a small list of useful abilities and mutations to help with school defense. Primary to this was, of course, abilities to sense incoming danger (or training to simulate it). After that was being calm under pressure, and being able to get other students to listen to you when a crisis happens. Lead students to the sub-levels, keep students from running out into danger they aren't prepared for, all of that. Third, and this was more a bonus than it was a real requirement, is if you can fight it would be nice to have a few people that can rescue students she (or anyone else) finds trapped. Especially if the X-Men are off base.*
*She planned to do this on her own if she didn't get anyone to sign up, but the help would be appreciated. It'd save her from deputizing anyone while the school is attacked by robot-pirate-zombies-from-the-future looking for Wolverine (law of averages). But hopefully someone will inquire about the positions. Sadly she didn't think to write free cookies on any of the signs to help sell the club.*
Re: School Defense Team
"...mm. A most sensible notion, Miss-... ..ah.. 'Maya.'"
...he's obviously not exactly used to speaking at least to her so informally.
"An especially defense-oriented team, that is. Seems like you've thought it out quite well already."

"Even so, you seem to be the one thinking of pushing forward with it, now. Some credit's due for that, I'd say, whatever might be the source of your inspiration."
no subject
"I wasn't inspired by the old team, I was inspired by the fact that last thing I remember was the school being destroyed and being knocked out of sync with the passage of time for five years. I might have a few unresolved paranoid issues with people trying to kill us. I'd appreciate a world where I didn't feel like this was a valid and reasonable idea."

He pales and grimaces just a little at that response, caught more than a little off-guard, but he's still accustomed to grievances and disputes being expressed just a bit differently. He does recover his composure, though, by the time she's finished answering, or at least mostly so, and shakes his head lightly, hands slightly raised in an unobtrusively soothing gesture.
"...I apologize for the misunderstanding. I certainly didn't mean to bring up such an unpleasant matter, for you--only to acknowledge you for pursuing what I'd consider a wise course of action. ...I share your sentiments, however, and for whatever it's worth, I mean to make all efforts I can to help bring us all nearer to that world."
Of course, Alric's used to thinking of it from a national government's perspective: ensuring security's always a priority, even in the best of circumstances. But there's no need to lean on that point, considering the discomfort she'd expressed with it.
no subject
"You didn't bring it up, it's just... there. Something I have to live with. It sucks, and I hate it, and I do this so that maybe some of the people that haven't had to deal with this crap won't have to." Which was foolish and probably going to give her an ulcer or something. But, what else could she do?
no subject
"...I.. appreciate the reassurance. ...and I find that admirable. Many people cannot take such a.. trauma, and be motivated by it to help others. I can only hope that I.. would do the same."
no subject
Maya could never understand why 'The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants' was ever considered a good idea. It was just so... on the nose.

He still needs more discipline, but... he can work on that. And more importantly...
"Ah, miss?" A small smile and a bow as a means to politely catch her attention. "I have something they call instinctive precognition. I can sense attacks and evade them. Right now it only works a couple of seconds into the future at most, which isn't very helpful, but they tell me that with training I should be able to push it a lot further. Could this be useful somehow?"
no subject
Maya wasn't looking up, and was letting her powers talk for her, anyone who joined would need to get used to it. If it reached bigger scales of predicting attacks, she could be put out of a job. Which is fine by her, but there are non-aggressive dangers that could sneak into the school. So chances are she'd still have to listen for dangers, and she could also coordinate better than anyone, minus telepaths.
"And will you be there anytime soon? You don't need it, as you can figure out other things to do without powers."
no subject
"That's what they tell me, at least. It's got something to do with feeling protective of things, so if I can learn to want to protect something other than myself, I should be able to use anything as a target." Because as much as Souji wanted to be able to protect the school, he had the feeling that this was not the same at all as acting out of instinct to protect something which he couldn't live without.
"I have no idea how soon that will be, though. Otherwise, the only thing I'm really good for is fighting."
no subject
So much for being redundant and replaceable, but it was nice to see some people interested in helping. She could sit locked up in whatever room is easiest to defend, and she can let other people who are better in a fight go out and fight the Brotherhood of Evil Morons, or Friends of Humanity, or whatever other groups are around making trouble for Mutants.
no subject
"I'm- Thank you, miss." And not just for that, but also for calling his precognition his 'main ability'. It was true - the super strength while fighting was secondary to the thing that triggered it. But most people focused more on physical actions than sensations - himself included. "I guess I don't know much about strategy, but I'm glad to help in any way that is needed."
no subject
Maya was not suited for achieving a goal outside, she was a member of a team, but she was just too in need of protection. She could probably work with a single X-Man and be a very useful tool, but they'd do all the heavy lifting getting her to where they wanted to go. Which, honestly, didn't make her feel much better. "And I have a name. Maya. When I'm listening to as much as possible it helps to use it so I focus in."
