For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

[[ ooc: This is the general mingling post for all of our characters to get settled into their rooms, get to know each other, reminisce with old friends, all that jazz. The log will be split into multiple locations. ]]

[And whoops there's his reminder that he's going to have a roommate - doesn't look like he interrupted anything worth calling out, aaand sarcasm is joking. He'll err on the side of assuming that everything's good; he's still off to an okay start! Muffled hearty snicker, doesn't give him any instnt pause coming in.

But he does transition to a stop actually sizing up the other kid. How old is he, like - twelve? Thirteen? Maybe someone's kid brother...?]

-- Well. [Kicks himself back into gear; plops half the bags onto his bed-to-be and shrugs. All but theatrically; huzzah, his arm is free again!] No one's gonna use my stuff at home, right?

[A heh - and he cranes his pitch up steeply. It's meant to sound friendly but probably comes off as inclined toward doubt as it is.]

'Scuse me, you wouldn't happen to be rooming here, would you?

I'm asking because - [No one asked him him why he's asking.] ...You know, you... look --

[He gestures with an arm, sort of repeating the "you know" - he wasn't expecting to be rooming with a middle schooler. Or someone who's got to be old enough to be one at a regular school - it scribbles out some easy starting sense of commonality.]

There's also limited space here. [A perfectly valid argument. How are you going to use all that stuff if you've got no place to put it?

[Yeah, he's . . . just going to frown more at the snickering and the theatrics. This is already getting on his nerves a bit. Does this guy have to exaggerate everything?

[And then the frowning gets worse still. Goddamn it, is this idiot assuming he's too young for the school? He's technically older than this kid, for crying out loud. Which, okay, he can be forgiven for not knowing because physically he's the same as he'd been five years ago, but that doesn't excuse the rest.]

Why the hell else would I be in here? [And reading a textbook, honestly. Who but a student would be doing that?] And I'm in the ninth grade, okay?

[Yes, the school does extend down into middle grades, but he is above that, thank you very much.]

"Ahh... it certainly sounds interesting. Most of my foundations, I learned from my grandfather, also oriented more to self-defense than sport... well, and from reading on the subject, of course, but as Munenori never fails to reiterate, reading is a poor substitute for training under a skilled teacher."

He smiles amusedly to himself, since, honestly, Munenori, we get it, you can't learn sword techniques just from reading, you don't have to say it again about every technique and principle individually.

Alric pauses at that, although it's just a trace of hesitation before he continues.

"Ah... my family is from Kaitheny, going back... many generations. It is a small nation, so it may of course be unfamiliar..."

He smiles a touch sheepishly.

[Raising an eyebrow at that. Never been to a class...it's probably rude to ask.]

Uh...it's Takane.

Gamecube, if that's alright?

Nice to meet you, Takane!

[He motions to the couch he was sitting on.]

Would you like to sit down? I know standing around can get pretty exhausting. And I'm just doodling by myself, so...

[He tries to look as friendly as possible as he asks, wearing an especially bright smile. The truth is he is so very excited. A potential friend...please don't mess this up, Haruka! He ignores the small knot forming in his stomach.]

"...Uh, why?" Something about that reaction was definitely....worrying.

Might as well give him a proper answer, though. "My name is Takane."

[frigokinetic]

[Elsa cries internally. Most normal Arendellean women are around that height... but she's only a few inches over five feet tall herself.]

Well... would you help me arrange my books? [She indicates the books in question.]

"That's no fun but okay. If you don't need me for anything else..."

Palutena wanted to retreat from what was a situation that was a little embarrassing.

"Well, having two cultures under your belt is always important. The more you know, the better."

Not quite like the couple of the anime she had watched before but Kaguya did look a lot like a few characters here and there.

What kind of type were you expecting? You really shouldn't get so worked up about everything or I'll get the urge to tease you more.

[She pushes a black controller over. Palutena keeps a Wavebird for herself. Deal with it.]

Hey - I dunno, you could be a visitor, or something! [Hastens to make his case!] But seeing that there's no one else here, and clearly you aren't anyway - [...Rats that was where he was going with the first one, give it up.] - clearly you aren't anyway!

All right? My mistake. [He holds up a hand - simultaneously, hello, then, roomie, and let's just wave that off, mmkay? He's got the look of someone who's been told to put his hands up and the tone of someone impatience to get out of the sun.

He shuffled off the rest of his bags onto the end of the bed wherever they'll fit and - drat, that doesn't give him any room to sit! Ughhh, he is not looking forward to unpacking; he didn't even fold most of those clothes...

Hauls them onto the ground for now, and sits down. On the edge of the bed, skimming his eyes up and around the other kid. Stalling.

And then going for it.]

So.

...Guess you and I are roommates!

[Who's apparently freshman-age to his sixteen and surly. Or maybe he's not always like this, but yesss, the year's surely getting off to a comfortable start.]

I can handle standing just fine...

[How long does he think she's planning to stick around...]

"Now, where are you from originally?"

It's probably the hairstyle, it really isn't an uncommon one. Kaguya kind of likes being a child of two cultures, pretty much.

"I'm from Athens, Greece. That's quite a ways away, isn't it?"

She was Grecian, no doubt. And she doubted that her family ever went outside those cultural boundaries in the past.

Ah.

...Well, I couldn't tell you about my country either, except for what I've read and heard.

Really? That means we already have a lot in common.

[What's she going to say? "I don't trust Americans to not be super-aggressive assholes?"]

...I've been on edge, because of the coverage.

I appreciate it, but that will most likely not be necessary. [There's a pause.] ...I do hope you will understand if the temperature suddenly drops, though. Perhaps it would be best to keep extra blankets on hand.

[Said with a smile, just to let her know she's teasing.]

Thanks, Feliks. She appreciates that. Trying to lead her gently into the modern American teenage subculture.

She continues to follow him quietly, until he gets to... the doors... no. Nope. She's not ready to do this yet. She has to stop him from going in.

"E-excuse me?"

My bed is honoured.

[She tries to sound cool and wryly amused, but it wobbles a little bit because what is humour.]
