For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

[At one point, unexpectedly, one of those stars comes flying right back at her with enough precision that it couldn't have been a lucky bounce. No, that star had been hit back at her by a certain knight-like senior.

Arturia was standing in the midst of some of the newer students Marisa had been picking on. She had summoned her sword to hit the star back at the X-Man as it could withstand any energy invested into that bullet. She had used her own abilities to keep the swirling mana winds about Excalibur to keep its form concealed from the sight of everyone. Oh, it was clear she had something in her hand, but one couldn't see what it was.

And those pale yellow eyes were locked onto the blonde.]

"I'll keep the offer in mind."

It might not be necessary, depending on how many students showed interest, and he'd have to see for himself just how skilled any potential help was; he wasn't a man for taking people at their word. But he wasn't going to reject the offer out of hand, either.

"Arturia Pendragon, senior," she clarified, just in case he couldn't place her because of how her appearance had changed. "I also tend to go by Saber. I am easy to locate."

[He perks up.]

Well, people here know your situation better than the media. We've all been in awkward spots because of our powers.

[He's still pretty sure freezing your entire country is better than eating half of its population.]

So, you're okay, right?

[She waves a hand and gestures to her semi-transparent self.]

And that was kinda cool... I can't go into places like that, so I just wander around.

[She grins and nods. Good guess, Palutena!]

That's right! I was born and raised there, before we moved to the U.S. What about you? "Palutena" isn't very American that I've heard.

"Or he did it on purpose," Maya shrugged, it was just as likely. Fai was about as shameless as they come after all. "So if you and Fai are just friends, any special guy in your life?"

Maya was trying to be polite, but all the catching up just made it worse.

"Ahh, apologies, then, Mr. Hijikata."

He smiles contritely with a nod of his head, although with no loss of his amiable, confident bearing--although he does pick up a trace of awkwardness at the question.

"..ah.. yes, that's right."

The name may or may not have any particular meaning, depending on Hijikata's attention to European politics, particularly the small monarchy of Kaitheny.

Laura took the pictures into her hand and examined them quickly, then glancing over the very clear physical difference that has happened in a relatively short span. She sniffed the air, naturally her first thought was a pathogen of some kind, this level of physical damage isn't easy to cause. Stress, naturally, could maintain it if left untreated.

"Have you spoken to Dr. McCoy about remedies for your current condition?" She figured, if Saber wished to share the specifics, that she would. But the pictures were enough to answer that Saber was damaged in ways that could limit the variation of her powers.

He can't help but straighten up a little under that gaze (as if he didn't already have pretty great posture, but there's always room to do anything better, as far as Leo's concerned). It feels a little like being appraised by Master Splinter, albeit with a little more distance, but even with that it's more than enough to make him feel like this guy ought to be taken more seriously.

"I wasn't expecting to get better by doing nothing."

Not getting caught was the lesson right after not breaking anything.

"I have been placed through numerous exams by both human doctors and by Dr. McCoy," Saber replied. "Something was done to me while I was in Japan. We do not know what it is, or what they did to me."

She held her hand out for the photos back. "The best way I can describe it is that there was some kind of... corruption done to me X-gene. That is why my abilities have altered. Along with..." She made a gesture to her face, specifically the red lines.

"Well, it's not rude among the Morlocks, at least." Which is a little like here, in that it's all mutants, except none of them have a hope for blending in with human society and some of them are a little more aggressive about mutant pride. (Or sometimes a lot.) "I don't think here should be that much different."

He understands her sentiments. It is quite awkward, but he doesn't regret pointing it out. After all, ambiguities could very well be turned against her in other situations - and that is something he wishes for her to avoid.

"You may leave, Palutena. I will see you hence."

This is not an anime or cartoon. This is reality, Palutena. There is no magic in friendship.

[Maybe that could just mean (or also means) that he's glad he's not frozen anymore, and not back at this place specifically, but...

Well, there's something about his tone.]

"Of course I am! Though I...sort of noticed. I've only seen you and Reimu here."

There was that reminder of the time gap again. One of Flandre's wingtips fidgeted back into place.

There were plenty of people X-23 has not killed who had a hand in the game of mutant genetic manipulation. She did not have access to intercontinental travel methods, so she had to settle for killing the ones in North America. Plus that was a decade ago, there were surely more scientists trying to make the perfect tool again. She just... did not have the energy to go and detain each one.

"Understood. Is there a theory as to their intentions?" Some people were just interested in seeing what happened, others had very specific designs in mind. She has not been 'in the game' for some time, so her information on Japan was almost certainly out of date. "You seem... strong, considering."

[That just gets a quiet nod; Leo's not quite self-aware enough to connect that attitude to his own, but he recognizes the determination in that tone as the kind that gets shit done.]

"I do not know who they are. I do not even know how they managed to knock me out. I was fully armored and engaged in combat with... I think it was another mutant, but I cannot be sure. He was cloaked in shadow with his face covered by a bone mask," Saber replied, looking down at the photos.

"Over the years, I have drawn a fair amount of attention in the anti-mutant circles across Europe. It could have been one of them." She shut the frame closed and looked back up at Laura. "My body is fighting the corruption. Dr. McCoy has said that is why I do not have access to the healing I used to be able to do with the mana. It is also not contagious, or they would not have allowed me to attend classes. I do ask that you do not spread this information around. I just thought that perhaps you may have a better understanding than others considering what you revealed regarding your genetics."

"Where are my manners, Christelle Desrosiers at your service," she answers, tipping a hat that isn't there above her scarf as she gives the young man a wink. "And you are monsieur Kobayakawa, ouis?"

"You're still young - your muscles 'ave yet to freeze in place despite your best efforts." She smirks and takes a drag from her cigarette. "There is 'ope yet."

Though in truth that scowl is making her want to poke his cheek.
