For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

"..... how did you get that from this conversation?" he asked, his words so dry, it was a wonder they didn't catch fire. Join... the baseball team.... was he serious? And how did they even get to that? What made him think that?

It ain't too bad. It just takes a bit of gettin' used to. And getting the thread in the needle can be annoying.

[Especially with his gloves on, but that's hardly a universal problem.]

[PALUTENA... come on, girl, you can do better than that. Aki looks a little disappointed.]

If you're going to talk big like that, you ought to at least have an idea to back it up.

"...wishful thinking?" Koshi sighed. It seemed like... having a roommate might be even harder than he thought. He figured this conversation was obviously a bust and he might as well just make sure to lay some ground rules if they were going to live together. "Look, just... the only rule I insist on is if the bathroom door is closed, knock. Or y'know, don't go in. Ever."

"Technically he didn't destroy the building because he was homophobic, he destroyed it because he was having a panic attack." Even after all these years, Fai still seems to feel the need to defend that particular incident. Mind, he doesn't sound defensive anymore, just gently chiding. "The point is... The point is that Lovi was a wildly insecure teenage boy whose internalized homophobia and rough upbringing turned our relationship co-dependent and in the end emotionally abusive. I was an idiot for being together with him, but all in all, it was still pretty mild." Yes, Maya. He really means that. And not because he feels the need to defend Lovi in general, because he doesn't. It's just that he's seen worse.

"I have excellent taste in friends, something you are proof of, but still the worst taste in partners."

"Don't go in, ever," he repeated dryly. "and just where do you intend that I go?" he asked, eyes a dark burnished orange suddenly, the change startling in the speed and the intensity. The cloudiness fell somewhat away, adding a luminescence to his eyes. This.... person... was going to keep him put of the bathroom, was going to dictate the parts of the room he could and could not use? Was this to be like his father all over again?

Basically, yes, he misunderstood the use of "Ever".

"I'm pretty sure his issues with his own identity had a pretty big part in the mindset that lead to him having a panic attack that nearly got you killed." Maya wasn't terribly surprised Fai was still defending that jerk, he loved that jerk. No matter how jerkfaced a jerk that jerk was.

"Clearly next time you meet someone you are serious about, your 'little sister,'" which Maya did airquote for dramatic effect, "needs to meet them and approve them. So you don't end up spending a week getting debris out of your hair." Not that she doesn't trust your taste in men or women on a matter of physical beauty, she just thinks you need a second opinion and occasionally a smack with a rolled up newspaper.

Newspapers are still a thing right?

"Well yes, of course. But somehow I don't feel like blaming him for his mental problems in themselves. Trust me, I have done plenty of blaming for the things he did to me, personally - the emotional abuse - but the panic attack was just an unfortunate accident." Lovino really hadn't meant to hurt him or Feli that time. There had been plenty of times, however, when hurting had been exactly what he was after, and as far as Fai was concerned, crying hysterically in the snow over repeatedly being called a whore had been way more damaging than a concussion could ever be. "He was never a physical abuser in that way." Said with the absolute conviction that came with experience Fai really wished he didn't have."

"But that's what I was after, of course. I already have Feliks and Yuui checking out my partners beforehand, but I think maybe I need someone more cynical at times - and I mean that as a compliment."

He shrugs. "We all moved a lot. I'm pretty sure I was born here, but when I was a kid mom and dad moved us all out into the jungle. Then another one, somewhere else, and so on. They did sciency stuff." He nods wisely. Apparently his parents didn't manage to impart much appreciation for their academics in their son.

"My team has been operating out of Brazil for a few years, so I guess our secret base is home? Until I quit, anyway. And now I'm here!" He grins, hands on hips. Not bad for a 30 second life story.

Koshi went ahead and put his hand on his face - what kind of lost-in-translation game was this?

"I mean, when I'm in there," he said with a sigh, wondering if getting a different roommate was hard.

".....Oh." His eyes shaded back towards gold. "why would I want to?" he asked, confused. Why would it have even come up? Did people generally walk in when other people were in the bathroom? At home it had been one of the few safe places that he could hide, but he never quite dared to push that safety, to test it by hiding in there overlong, lest he loose it as a place of...relative.... safety.

"Oh--well. I guess it's habit. People here phrased it that way to me, spoke about how I could, you know, pass as human. I suspect there's a bit of a divide, who has it worse. I think you all do, I mean, I know no one looks at me and worries I'm a mutant with unfathomable powers or such nonsense."

She shrugs, "I don't think I blame you for having a temper. People can be cruel. Non mutant humans doubly so. Sometimes manners can only help so much."

[Elsa considers this and goes flipping through the options, before settling on... Kirby. Because Kirby.]

[ Soren nods and mumbles: ] ... lower surface area to volume ratio.

[ Physics is one of his favorite subjects! Except when it involves group labs....

In any case he falls quiet again, out of questions for the moment. Actually, he's sort of hoping that Caelius will say he can go and doesn't need to come back. ]

"Let's not fight about ghosts from our past... there are so many new and different things we can argue about." She'd been gone for five years, while it helped reassure her Fai was still Fai, Lovi wasn't here and wasn't going to be a problem.

"I can handle that, I can also talk about them behind their back in the same room with them while I politely smile at them like this." And she gave Fai a winning, friendly smile that was definitely not fake and definitely not practiced for when she was telling Margot all sorts of snide commentary.

[Unfortunately, that response only serves to make Caelius perk up.]

Do you like science?

[He asks with genuine interest.]

[ Well crud. That isn't telling him he can leave.

But -- Soren nods. No hesitation there.

And doesn't elaborate because what is being cooperative and open, and can he eat it? ]

"I dunno, like, if you just wanted to grab something you left in there or whatever that only took a second... I don't know how casual some people are, but I'd really like my privacy at least then, okay? I mean, not that I'm saying you would-" Though he totally wouldn't put it past space-case here, "-but just, y'know. To prevent any misunderstandings in the future."

"You, likewise, will not come in when I am in there," he said simply, coolly.

You don't need one if your Plan A is good enough.
