[It's nighttime on the 22nd, the plot is set, the day has come. It was finally time to break out, to find answers. To find a cure. They wouldn't find anything sitting here. Henry had found nothing while Kurt was getting worse, his flesh beginning to turn from blue to a boiling shade of red. He had know he didn't have much time. He knew it would take a miracle to survive much longer.

Lying in his medical bed with Flik next to him his tail flicks to the side, giving the signal that it was time to begin.

Seconds later, Flik charges straight for Zancrow, screaming at the top of his lungs and as soon as he does, Kurt bamfs from his table, appearing right next to the first person he's getting ready to teleport out.]

[Almost as soon as Kurt had dropped her off, she shuffled to the nearest unused set of stairs leading to the wheelhouse and plonked herself down on the stairs, half-curled over, fingers pressed to her temples and eyes squeezed tightly shut.

Flipping between one mindset and another more identical but in denial one was surprisingly stressful on the mind, as it turned out.

She didn't notice Krista approach or hear her words either, entirely occupied with what seemed like two presences trying to fit into the same small space between her horns at once.]

[Whatever was going on there, it didn't look good. Hopefully, there wasn't a third personality in there to introduce herself to.]

[Krista reached out to touch her arm, trying to get her attention. After a moment's thought, she reached out towards her mind, trying to give her some measure of calm -- though she wasn't sure which of them that was likely to reach.]

[That mental poke did something different this time. Her mind recoils, then redoubles on itself to chase out an intruder-

-Krista?

And the bluish shadows in her mind splintered, turning over into bristling red. A more Kaede-like color.

Her back stiffens, she lifts her head, and at the top of her lungs shouts-]

-FUCK!

[Oh. Apparently Kaede was back.]

...ugh.

[And her head really goddamn hurt ow ow ow.]

[Krista had never been quite so relieved to hear an outburst of profanity.]

Kaede? Is that you?

[long_live_the_queen]

[She coughs once—then goes back to clutching her head.]

Who else would it be?

[Same perpetually-grumpy voice, too. She’s probably legit!]

[martyrerkomplex]

You weren't... quite yourself, for a while.

[That's about as delicately as it can be put, she thinks.]

What?

[She froze, down to her fingers.]

Then—fuck.

[The pain in her head was starting to recede somewhat, now that the competition over the same mental space had ended.

She almost wished it would come back now, rather than face the prospect of looking up. Kaede felt completely mortified now.]

[Somehow, she feels almost fond at the return of that surly attitude. She takes a bottle of water and presses it into her hands, carefully expressionless.]

[The decision was sort of made for her; the cool plastic touching her hands made her jump and jerk her head up and—Krista didn't seem terribly bothered.

And...it was just water. She did feel a bit thirsty, now that she thought about it. So she takes the water bottle in one hand while rubbing her temple in circles with the other/]

What did I—[no, she wasn't ready to accept that yet.] What did she say?

Not too much.

[Krista sat down next to her, near enough to reach out and touch, but without touching.]

She remembered me, from the night S.H.I.E.L.D. was at the school. She wanted to know if I'd been hurt then. She was confused about where we were and why. I didn't ask her too many questions.

[It seemed like a courtesy Kaede deserved, in exchange for all the things she'd seen and not asked about.]

[Not...too bad, then. Her shoulders relaxed some.

Though she had to ask:]

She didn't try to grab you, did she?

...Well, I stopped smiling for a moment when she asked if I was in the infirmary because of the attack, and she wasn't happy about that.

[So yes. Yes, she did.]

[...was there a socially acceptable way of asking "did my alternate personality try to grab your tits"? Because she was failing here.]

What, like—

[She...hesitated, and might have been staring at Krista's chest for a moment anyway, but eventually shifted the water bottle to her other hand and reached out to touch Krista's shoulder very lightly, with mostly her fingers. She gave the other girl a light shake, and quickly let go.

How the fuck do you explain this, help.]

...No?

[She could tell Kaede was trying to ask something other than what she actually asked, but couldn't quite piece it all together.]

She grabbed my cheeks, to try and make me smile again.

[long_live_the_queen]

Okay, good.

[That was much better. Kind of...silly, but not entirely embarrassing.

Kaede picked up the water bottle again, stared straight ahead, and tried to forget that particular awkwardness.]

[She shouldn't ask, she shouldn't ask...]

[Well, Kaede knew enough awful things about her. It was only fair.]

Why? What did you think she'd done?

[...fuck.

Could she just not answer? Was that an option? ...no, probably not.

Ugh.

Kaede kept staring straight ahead, pointedly looking anywhere but at Krista.]

...grabbed your chest.

[That was the most diplomatic way she could think of putting it.]

...Is that a problem you've had with her before?

[Stiiiill not looking at Krista.]

...yes.

[Kaede's mind was awfully pink right now.]

[...Huh.]

Do you know why she does it?

No, she just...does, if she likes someone.

[There was some indistinct mumbling before and after she answered.]

I guess she didn't like me that much, then.

[SLOWLY...getting over her flustered state of mind.]

Did you want her to grab your chest?

[martyrerkomplex]

[What, by spreading the flusteredness around to dilute it?]

I-I didn't say that!

[There's not much to grab there anyway.]

...that reaction was kind of funny, though.]

What, you did?

[She started to cough again, lightly. It sort of sounded like giggling.

...or just coughing, which is what it genuinely tuned into for a moment.]
