The Ashes of the Phoenix [OPEN]

WHO: John Sublime, "No Girl", the U-Men, and their unfortunate target... The Insitute
WHAT: Sublime's U-Men attack the school. They're aiming for the sublevels. Stop them at all costs!
WHERE: Throughout campus
WHEN: Past midnight, Wednesday-Thursday
WARNING(S): Gonna get violent.

The time was now. The media attention over his followers actions was too much. And after all, Xavier's little henchmen in London had figured it out. He was sure of it. There was no more time to bide. No more room for hesitation. It was act now, or the revolution would end in a prison cell, festering away in the disgusting care of this unclean world. Sublime couldn't stomach it. Couldn't fathom it. And whatever god help those who stood in the way of him and his dream of Homo Perfectus.

"All units are in place," Sublime whispered, peering out over the immaculate green, covered in moonlight, staring a drilling, piercing hole into the mansion. "Martha... it's your turn now," another whisper, as the floating apparatus before him, holding a strange glowing orb, began to shine even more brightly.

Just like that, the security systems failed. And just like that, Charles Xavier gasped and sent out a short, psychic burst to all X-Men, perhaps to everyone in the school, before he was overwhelmed and silenced, collapsing from his bed to the floor, stunned into sleep by a psychic force even he was not prepared for.

"This is it, Martha... our dream... U-Men! Bring me the Ashes of the Phoenix!" And like that, dozens of the men from the blurred video that Glamour and Spy had managed to obtain swarmed the ground, organic and mechanical, using a plethora of stolen mutant powers, attacked.

Their ultimate goal is the filed away genetic samples of Jean Grey in the sublevels. They must be stopped, before someone uses them to integrate Jean's powers into a U-Man. ]]

Given Azusa's gossip loving ways, she felt like she knew everyone in the school in some way or not. She may not know anyone's abilities, but she certainly knew if they were dating someone or involved in a love triangle or anything fun like that. But she's seen Koshi around, and knows him at least by sight as another student.

"I-I don't know! I just did what came natural for me!" Hiding is definitely not the thing that the 400 year old magician that she pretended to be when she was in middle school would do, but she's grown up a little, knowing that the world is more dangerous than she used to think. "What are you doing carrying that thing around?"

Koshi wasn't dating anyone, but as the captain of the baseball team, he wasn't exactly out of sight. That and it was widely known he was Beast Boy's "study" "partner", if rumor was to be believed.

"Me? Well, to take out the bad guys, of course!" No, Koshi didn't have that kind of delusion - these were real-life bad guys after all, so it was okay to call them that, right?

Oh yes, thinking about it, she definitely has heard those rumors. Two boys "studying" like that, it's every girl's best shipping dream isn't it? N-Not that she ships anyone in her school together..

"Wait, you can't just go and try to fight them with a bat! You could get killed! You should leave it to the X-Men to handle it. That's what they are here for!" Surprisingly, when it came to life and death situations, there was no magic or other embarrassing things in Azusa's words, she had no time for that.

"Don't worry, I won't die," he assured her with the confidence only a teenager can have. "It's important to help defend the school, isn't it? I don't know what they're here for, but I'm not about to let them get away with it!"

Apparently he was having delusions of justice though.

"You don't know that! Unless your mutant ability is like, dodging bullets and blasting people with lasers, you have to be careful like the rest of us!" Of course she didn't realize just what his power was. Powers were infinitely less interesting than people's possible ships. Which she totally doesn't do, right?!

"I don't want anyone to take the school either, but I don't want to die either.."

"Well, no, I guess it's not that cool..." Koshi admitted, starting to feel a little useless. He didn't really tell many people about his power considering how unlikely it was to come up during school, so it was no surprise Azusa wouldn't know it.

"Well, then stay behind me! I'll protect you," he assured her with a grin, hefting his baseball bat for her. And entirely not noticing the figure sneaking up behind him.

She wasn't really trying to hurt the boy, but when it came to danger, where they could actually die, there was no point in lying or sugar coating their situation. She didn't know that Koshi's ability was literally defense against the thing she was so worried about, dying, but she wasn't going to let either of them get hurt if she could.

Of course, she also wasn't really paying attention, not until she saw that man in the strange suit almost appear directly behind Koshi, covering her mouth with her hands in horror.

"B-Behind you!"

"Huh?" Koshi glanced back just in time to see the man lunge at him. Rather than just jumping out of the way though, he grabbed Asuza before dodging to the side with her, the long spike sticking out of the U-man's palm grazing his arm and drawing blood.

"Quick little bugger," muttered the masked figure. He held out his arms, a long spike of - was that bone? - sticking out of each hand. "I'll get you yet..."

Even though Azusa knew they were in danger, that the school was under attack, it still didn't feel real. For a girl who had fallen into delusions most of her life, it was so easy to do that again now. She nearly died she thought, seeing that spike suddenly coming at her. She didn't expect that bone coming at her, or for her life to flash in front of her eyes.

"J-Jerk!" Okay, she had enough in her to yell angrily at the U-Man, holding tight onto Koshi, slinking behind him. "We should get out of here.." Her hand on the back of his shirt was shaking.

"We can't just run away!" said Koshi, brandishing his bat as the U-Man approached them.

"I won't let you..." hissed their assailant.

"Yeah, see?" he said, even though he was backing up anyway, his own grip not seeming too steady. He swished his bat back and forth a bit, trying to ward the man back.

They absolutely can run away, but Azusa's powers are not very strong, it takes her a while to try to decide and image what she wants to change into something else. So at the moment, as the skin on her arm starts to turn the color of the carpet below them, it's up to Koshi to protect the two of them.

"We can run away! Find someone to help! The X-Men will help us!" Azusa really wanted to believe that someone tough would swoop in and save them, but she knew that there was just as much chance of nothing happening either.

"The teachers have bigger threats to worry about... I'll take care of this one!" Yeah, that was Koshi lunging forward swinging his bat. It gets the U-man to leap back, but the man jumps in after his wide swing and jabs with one of those stingers, ripping the side of Koshi's shirt as the boy stumbles back.

"Heheheh, like you can..."

This boy was too headstrong. That's what Azusa was thinking, holding onto his shirt in the small of his back, focusing on the floor and the walls to change the two of them. But maybe he had some crazy strong ability that would protect the two of them. There were mutants who could turn into diamond, or shoot lasers from their eyes, maybe Koshi could save them...

"B-Be careful!" She let go seeing the man attack, pressing herself hard against the wall, and vanishing against it, hidden with her ability. Doing herself was easier than the two of them, but maybe she could get behind the U-Man.

"Right!" shouted Koshi, not looking back or noticing Azusa disappearing, his attention on the man before him. His wild swinging kept the U-man from being able to get any good hits in, but it was clear he wasn't even coming close to touching the attacker at all.

"Just hold still, you little insect!" hissed the man, lashing out with those protruding bones.

Now only Azusa could hope the man hadn't seen her change either, seeing how he was focusing most of her attention on Koshi. But that didn't make her feel much better, seeing how the boy was in danger, real life, could probably die from it if she couldn't help some how, type danger.

All she could do now was try to slide against the wall past the man, to get behind him and take him down that way. A kick to the knees, or between his legs would still work...right?

Which would have been great, if Koshi knew that was the plan. Instead, the boy had it in his mind that he was the only line of defense between Azusa and this crazed assailant. Which was why he took a little more risk than necessary, lunging forward to try to hit the U-man's head.

"Ha-gurk!" What he mostly got however, was a length of bone piercing into his chest.

It's not like she could explain to him the plan in the middle of a fight! She didn't even know his ability, and apparently he didn't know her's. Just as she got around the U-Man though she turned to look at that bone going straight through the boy's chest and couldn't keep a scream from escaping. She had never seen anyone die before. She knew being a mutant could be dangerous, but it shouldn't have been like this. School was such a fun place, why had people come and ruined that?!

the only thing she could do was make a brick wall appear between herself and the U-Man, hoping it would slow him down long enough for her to run away, tears in her eyes.

"Heh, not so tough now, are y-!" It was the U-man's turn to be surprised, as sticking his weapon through Koshi meant he was standing still long enough for the boy to finally hit him. The baseball bat hit his head with a solid crack, sending the man to the ground in a second, bone sliding out of his chest.

"Y, yeah, I am..." Koshi managed to spit out, wheezing a bit and clutching his chest, blood flowing over his fingers. "Asu..za?"

He didn't see where the girl had gone, but he assumed she was still hiding nearby. Turning around though just made him dizzy, and before he knew it, Koshi found himself on the grass next to to the man he'd knocked out.

I don't have the time to be lying here... I have to make sure everyone else... is safe...

She didn't want to leave him. But she had to get someone to help him. He was already going to die...seeing that bone going all the way through Koshi...people don't live through that kind of stuff. People die when they are killed.

If she knew he had been calling her name like that she probably would have cried even harder than she was, running to find an X-Man, an upperclassman, anyone.
