The Ashes of the Phoenix [OPEN]

WHO: John Sublime, "No Girl", the U-Men, and their unfortunate target... The Insitute
WHAT: Sublime's U-Men attack the school. They're aiming for the sublevels. Stop them at all costs!
WHERE: Throughout campus
WHEN: Past midnight, Wednesday-Thursday
WARNING(S): Gonna get violent.

The time was now. The media attention over his followers actions was too much. And after all, Xavier's little henchmen in London had figured it out. He was sure of it. There was no more time to bide. No more room for hesitation. It was act now, or the revolution would end in a prison cell, festering away in the disgusting care of this unclean world. Sublime couldn't stomach it. Couldn't fathom it. And whatever god help those who stood in the way of him and his dream of Homo Perfectus.

"All units are in place," Sublime whispered, peering out over the immaculate green, covered in moonlight, staring a drilling, piercing hole into the mansion. "Martha... it's your turn now," another whisper, as the floating apparatus before him, holding a strange glowing orb, began to shine even more brightly.

Just like that, the security systems failed. And just like that, Charles Xavier gasped and sent out a short, psychic burst to all X-Men, perhaps to everyone in the school, before he was overwhelmed and silenced, collapsing from his bed to the floor, stunned into sleep by a psychic force even he was not prepared for.

"This is it, Martha... our dream... U-Men! Bring me the Ashes of the Phoenix!" And like that, dozens of the men from the blurred video that Glamour and Spy had managed to obtain swarmed the ground, organic and mechanical, using a plethora of stolen mutant powers, attacked.

[[ This is it! Our first major action post, and in X-Men tradition, it's a direct attack on campus. Feel free to start your own threads. The U-Men will be NPC'd by the mods. Their ultimate goal is the filed away genetic samples of Jean Grey in the sublevels. They must be stopped, before someone uses them to integrate Jean's powers into a U-Man. ]]

Leysritt is nothing if not straightforward. So, startled awake by the psychic alarm, it's really no surprise that she doesn't even bother to change out of her pajamas before she slips on shoes and exits her room. The extent of her combat training is what she has learned since the beginning of the school year, but the objective is clear enough. All she has to do is find some intruders so she can stop them from getting wherever they want to go.

Her power isn't super speed, but enhanced muscle strength means she can hit a decent speed when she tries. That said, considering that she's tearing down the school's hallways with all the grace of a particularly careless bull in a china shop, it'll be no surprise if she finds herself literally running into someone—friendly or hostile.

"Ah—" Kariya isn't making any attempt to fight. He's nothing if not useless in combat... He actually doesn't know what to do, but he's going to do something anyway. He's worried about the children, so he's on his way to go protect them, with his 100% complete lack of any combat skills.

Because he's not the strongest man, nor the surest on his feet, the impact of Leysritt striking into him is enough to knock him off his feet and onto the ground, where he collapses in a heap of white hair and hoodie. "Sorry..." The apology came out before he could think to stop it, even though he was the one who'd been run into. From the glimpse he'd gotten of her, he's fairly sure she's one of the students. He hopes. "Are you all right?"

Leysritt, on the other hand, barely seems fazed by their collision, though it does startle her for as little as her expression changes. She skids to a halt, and then, wordlessly, she leans over to help Kariya back to his feet—all but picks him up, really, tucking her hands under his arms as she hauls him upward.

"Sorry," she says, finally, her voice no more expressive than her face is.

He's sure one of their attackers wouldn't be saying sorry, so he relaxes. He's not so weak that he can't get to his feet, but he accepts her help, rising.

"It's all right, I know it was an accident." Yes, she's a student. She must be worried, in spite of her emotionless demeanor. "You shouldn't be here. We need to get clear of the danger." It's obvious to him that the X-Men should be handling this, not students! Even if they are powerful, they're still children, and their safety is paramount!

At that, she shakes her head, sounding decided when she tells him, "I'm going to help."

He takes a step in front of her, although of course he can't do anything to stop her. "I wish you'd come with me. We don't know what's happening. We need to regroup."

"Don't worry. I'm tough." She doesn't have much she can demonstrate her toughness with on hand, though, so instead she just flexes an arm. While she doesn't dodge around him just yet, it does occur to her that she needs to get moving again soon if she wants to help anyone.

He knows stubbornness when he sees it, and he can tell already that arguing with her is of questionable benefit. What can he do to stop her? She probably is tough, as tough as she says. Much tougher than he is. But instead of backing off, he offers, "Then—I'll go with you."

That gives her pause. She blinks. But she doesn't have a reason to tell him he can't, and if worse comes to worst, she'll just protect him, too.

"Okay."

With that said, she steps around him. She doesn't know exactly where she's going, in all honesty; she's just looking until she finds some source of commotion.
vermis: (in my imagination it is)

"All right." At least he can look after her, although he doesn't have any idea what she's going to do. It's so sad, he thinks, that these children have to fight... They shouldn't be left unsupervised!

Really, sometimes he thinks the administration here can be too irresponsible. Not that this is their fault, but no child should ever have to fight, no matter what. There should be more precautions in place! Where are Storm and Wolverine? Aren't they supposed to be the X-Men? He feels a bit disloyal thinking this, however, and hurries to keep up with Leysritt. He keeps his voice down as he talks, not wanting to attract attention. "I'm Kariya. A counselor." He never uses his last name.

"Leysritt." She answers automatically, though in truth, she isn't particularly interested in introductions now. She keeps her attention primed on her surroundings, with all the surprising focus that comes with her almost childish single-mindedness.

"It's nice to meet you," says Kariya, silently scanning for parasites, which might tell him when someone's around. It's sort of embarrassing to be able to tell who has parasites. Because how are you supposed to bring that up diplomatically? But that's not the issue now! He keeps an eye out, though he's not sure what he'll be able to do if someone attacks them. He'll try to help, somehow.

"I hope we'll be able to talk again after all this is over." Because of course, it will be over, and everything will be fine!

alright since I got an NPC tag below I'm just going to keep tagging this

"We'll talk," she says, the reply immediate and absolutely certain. She doesn't sound confident so much as like she doesn't even realize why this might not be an option. Pausing, she glances toward him, sparing him her attention as she asks, "Why?"

She probably should have asked that before agreeing, but that's another thing that didn't occur to her, apparently.
vermis: (a thousand times)

sounds good to me

[personal profile] vermis 2014-10-24 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
He smiles. "I'm glad." Her confidence is nice to see, even if her lack of affect is a bit worrisome. He's seen too many nervous children here, and it reminds him of his own childhood.

"I thought it might be nice to get to know each other better," says Kariya, in his kindest counselor's voice. He believes very strongly in talking being good for people, so obviously, it will be good for her, too. "I try to touch base with the students when I can."

As he explains, she nods, the gesture slight and slow. That sounds logical enough to her, so she says, "Alright."

That's all she has to say about that, apparently.

That question receives no answer, but that probably isn't much of a surprise. Instead, Leysritt comes to an abrupt stop, pausing for all of half a second before dashing out of sight, through the nearest door. That puts her in a classroom with no other exit, but that's fine. She's just looking for something heavy, after all.

As soon as he puts a toe through the door frame, a desk goes flying at him with an impressive amount of speed and force.

[personal profile] leyabout 2014-10-28 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
That gives Leysritt pause. She goes still still as she watches the desk ricochet, crashing into a corner harmlessly (except for that other furniture it knocked over on the way). Maybe she's even considering his offer.

But then, no, she snatches up the chair that gone with her first projectile and chucks it at him too.
leyabout: (eleven)

it's no problem!

[personal profile] leyabout 2014-11-02 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
The good news is that Leysritt is within grabbing range! The bad news is that, given that opening, she has elected to dive at him, attempting to tackle him to the floor and wrest his weapon from his hands.
