For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

[ Soren shifts and looks away, uncomfortable with being complimented - particularly with being told he seems nice. And he's never really been asked for help much, either.

So in the end he shrugs. ]

Under other circumstances, Feliks would empathize with her -- she's shaking and uncomfortable, obviously new, and god, has he ever been there.

But Feliks isn't a person with what one would call an inherent respect for authority. Open defiance towards any authority that tries to hold him back from expressing himself freely is really much closer to the truth, and now that it's been unleashed, his temper is flaring up a little. He's smiling and cheerful, but there's a sharp edge to it.

"Mad fierce, you mean. And I'm Polish."

Now, how much more scandalous can he make his clothes if she keeps complaining, he wonders...

"You are in the country of America, and have clearly adopted the attitude of an American."

Elsa attempts to pull herself together. Facing conflict was never her... strong suit, really, but she tries her best to bring herself back under control. Just look at his eyes, she tells herself. Just look at nothing but his eyes. It actually seems to work, to a degree; at the very least she's not shaking anymore.

"Well," she continues, feeling her queen voice get stronger as she goes, "clearly there is no rule against it in this school. You may carry on. But I hope you realize that no one will be taking you seriously in that... outfit." It takes all of her self-control not to say costume.

Wow, you know what the outfit really needs? Some thigh-high stockings. And heels that would make a stripper blush!

...Which is to say that the Queen Voice only seems to provoke him, as does the implication that he needs her say-so to carry on, and the threat towards his credibility. Still, he laughs.

"I may? Way nice of you, since I was kinda gonna anyway. But listen. Anyone who thinks what I wear means they don't have to listen to what I say? I totally don't care what they think.

"Oh, you're like, not taking any Political Science classes, are you?"

Oops.

He raises his hands, just slightly, in a soothing gesture, obviously at least little surprised at how poorly that was received. He understood it had been a traumatic event for her, of course; but he'd clearly failed to comprehend how much so. Reaction, though, if not what he expected, isn't exactly unfamiliar.

"I-..." He catches himself, quickly collects himself, and puts something of a smile back on, as a conciliatory gesture--definitely more formal, courtly, and practiced, this time. "...ah. Yes. You did. Please, pardon my foolish rambling. ...with respect, Your Majesty, I'd noticed you seemed... ...troubled... and hoped that perhaps I could be of some help. ......which.. ah... it seems I am not doing particularly well, so far. But if there is anything I can do to rectify that, please do not hesitate to let me know."

He moves to stand--somewhat slowly, and not moving toward her, since she's clearly already on the defensive--a hint of withdrawal to give her a little more space, and soothe her seemingly rather frayed nerves.

"Something like that. Living things for a broad definition of the word." Her attempts to move them continue, with her only really succeeding in moving the base of the ears, not the swivel cats ears should have. She hears the snap--but it's hard to say if it's more intense than normal.

"...I don't think they work like normal cat ears would. Maybe because I have normal ears still? I don't know." She hums, "Maybe if I made them my only source of hearing, my body would compensate by moving my hearing to them? I'm not sure I want to shift my ears away though."

God, why did she get into this conversation? Elsa is regretting it more and more with every passing second. She should have just kept walking into the school like a normal person and let this boy go about his merry way -- at least then he would have been wearing pants.

"I am," she says. "Why?"

"'Cause not taking me seriously then might be kinda a pain."

[frigokinetic]

"I will. I appreciate your consideration, Alric, thank you." Elsa is using her queen voice too, now, except it is very noticeably shaken. Awkwardly, she stands up and brushes nonexistent dirt off of her dress. "If you don't mind," she says, "I need to do some tasks before classes begin."

And also hyperventilate in her dorm room. There's that, too.

"Are you the teacher of that class?"

Oh god, please, no...

Okay, now this is just funny enough that he's not even mad anymore.

"Not until next year! I'm the TA for now, though."

Really it's all he can do to stop himself from bowing. ...kneeling near her, okay, a little unconventional, but not out of this world, but if she's trying to avoid drawing too much attention-

"..ah.. yes, of course, Your Majesty." He nods politely, as a compromise, and calmly steps aside to allow her a path of least resistance to make an escape. Having had a moment to compose himself, he smiles a touch more warmly and reassuringly, once again, although also somewhat concerned.

The last time he saw someone so rattled, they were not in a good state, internally; but as much as he hates to leave a problem floating, she's clearly not up for resolving anything right now. Kicking himself for not picking up on that sooner will have to wait, though.

"I hope that you settle in well."

[hearmyfeels]

[She nods eagerly and hums, sizing him up again] If you got the top hat, you probably wouldn't even have to worry about the hair color! I wonder how he keeps the mask besides magic. Maybe sticky tape. Or strings like a mask for kids!

[Don't let her do it, she's planning out your cosplay and there may be no way out]

"Well, criticism of one's fashion choices is not appropriate in a setting where we are supposed to be talking about learning." She would have thought this was obvious. "That said, I don't plan to bring this up again." Because why would she? She's said her piece, the TA put on a miniskirt, and she put him on her list of people who are Generally Unpleasant to Talk To.

[C'mon, Kanji, you're still going by your civilian name? Next you'll say you don't have a custom uniform on under those clothes!]

Soooo. Do you like video games? What's your mutation? Is it cool if this is my bed? Do you eat tofu?

[Feliks finds that Kanji is much more... Approachable, when he smiles. He relaxes a little, leaning against the doorframe.]

So... how long have you been in America?

Yeah, that's pretty surprising too...

[Cute? Well, he guesses he's pretty cute... not that he cares.]

Well, hopefully I can keep up with all that!

Koshi was pretty tough, and had experienced more than his fair share of "show dominance through aggressive hand-shaking" on the diamond, so he barely even noticed the other boy's grip. He was just happy to shake hands, though after a few seconds he let go - hopefully his roommate did too.

"So, what's your name?" he asked, just deciding to be direct about it - if they were going to be roommates, it wasn't like he could dance around not knowing his name very long.

[She puts on a Scottish accent. It sounds about as well as someone with a Greek accent imitating a Scottish accent could expect. Which wasn't too awesome.]

Imma sorry, Captain but she's a locked into her course already. You'll just have to keep trying!
