For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

[[ ooc: This is the general mingling post for all of our characters to get settled into their rooms, get to know each other, reminisce with old friends, all that jazz. The log will be split into multiple locations. ]]

[Yep, not difficult to notice the pair of swords, either. That comes after "Hey, it's a giant turtle" on the mental list. Because things like that are important. But then he mentally shrugs, because whatever. Giant turtle. Not that weird, really.]

Hey. [In a perfectly civil tone, if lacking in warmth. Doesn't even sound weirded out, really. He should . . . probably say something else. Give him a second. He's never been good at the pleasantries thing.] Guess we're neighbours.

[Civil but not warm is perfectly okay with Leo. Civil but not warm is still miles ahead of what he's come to expect, considering that most of his random encounters prior to the Institute have either been with people reacting negatively to his looks, or mysterious enemies who want his head for reasons often unexplained.

"Perfectly okay" is a good quality to have in a neighbor.]

Guess so.

[Should he go for the handshake? They're probably standing too far apart for the handshake. Oh well.]

["Perfectly okay" is about the best Toushirou expects from rooming assignments. He doesn't really like most people, so hoping for more than that would be ridiculous. If it turns out better, then great. If it turn out worse, well whatever. And things staying the same is just fine, too.]

Toushirou. [There, he got through introductions. He's wonderfully social today.]

[Okay, introductions done.

Important questions now open for asking.]

You practice kendo?

[It's fairly clearly the kind of question that's obviously just being phrased as one for politeness's sake and not making an ass out of u and me with an assumption, because there aren't many other reasons to be carrying a sword around in a place like this.]

[Yeah, there really is no other reason. Thankfully, Toushirou is too drained from the events of the day to get too snappy about questions with obvious answers.]

Yeah. [He is not putting that in the past tense, damn it. He'd practiced it five years ago, and he'd continue to practice it now. There's no need to ask Leonardo if he does, obviously.]

For how long?

[Because look, the obvious question was just the polite segue into the important ones.

If Leo's gonna be here for a while, he's gonna need to look for sparring partners. The Foot Clan aren't going to let their blades get rusty while he's pretending to be a model student.]

It would've been close to a year before the . . . incident. [That's never going to be comfortable to say.] I'm probably out of shape, honestly. But there's no reason I shouldn't remember how to do it.

[Because muscle memory and such. And he'd been pretty good before the Incident; the school has some excellent teachers for this. Only one of whom is still here, but facts are facts.]

The more you do it, the faster it comes back.

[Not that he's taken close to that long off before, himself, but.]

And I have every intention of getting it back. [He sure as hell wouldn't have taken a five year break if he could have helped it.

[He shrugs at the apology. Awkward is going to come no matter what. He might as well get used to it, right?] It's fine.

[That just gets a quiet nod; Leo's not quite self-aware enough to connect that attitude to his own, but he recognizes the determination in that tone as the kind that gets shit done.]

[Yep, Toushirou is very much a kid who gets shit done.]

So I suppose this means I'll be seeing you in the club, then.

More than likely.

[Leaving himself some room in case he finds it doesn't suit him - with the life he's led so far, he can't help but worry that going back to friendly sparring with people who aren't necessarily in the business of landing themselves so far into life or death fights might not work out so well.

But he wants it to work.]

[Oh, how you underestimate what goes on in this kendo club, Leo. This kid will surely show signs of techniques useful in life or death fights eventually. He's done that shit before. He just needs to get it all back. Good thing the coach doesn't mess around.

[And that Toushirou's blade itself is designed with combating the less-than-mundane in mind. But, that is probably a discovery to be made at the club proper.] ... So what grade? For classes, I mean.

[Because otherwise it may sound like he's still talking about kendo and it would make no sense. Just something he may as well ask while they're already talking. It's hard to tell the age of giant turtles, okay?]

[Hey, his own mental concept of "education" might be "that time Dad disguised himself as a creepy stranger and beat the crap out of all of us while threatening to kill everything we loved," but he's been told it doesn't work that way for most people, so he can't help but be a little cautious.]

[Don't worry, man. The school will hold up to that sooner or later.
