For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

Don't worry, I've been doing stuff like this for years and I haven't broken anything yet.

Leo, this is not how you brush off concern.]

[Well, she might be a little dazzled by his skill, but that doesn't stop her from shaking her head and sighing loudly.]

Doesn't that just mean the first time you do will be that much worse?

[Yeah, he is not helping her feel better about this.]

You should at least wait until a week or two goes by before you put yourself out for the semester.

My father taught me how to take a fall. I'm not too worried.

[It's all about the tuck and roll and...well, it's a little different doing it right with a shell on your back, but he's learned how to work that into the equation, too.]

It's a family thing, huh?

[That actually makes her feel a little better. She figures that dads who go out of their way to make their kids learn to take falls generally know what they're doing.]

I guess if you've been doing it for that long, you know what you're doing... But you should probably make sure the teachers don't catch you doing it inside.

Not getting caught was the lesson right after not breaking anything.

[What kind of ninja would he be if he got caught!]

[That gets a laugh out of her, and she gives him a wink.]

I'm guessing the third lesson wasn't "don't talk about our family secrets," huh?

[The kind of ninja who talks a lot about ninjaing, for starters.]

Maybe if we had more of them.

[He's guessing there would've been a lot more of that if they hadn't left the old clan in the first place. But now? Free agent ninja with no clan to report to. #yolo.]

Keeping secrets isn't much fun, anyway, so you're not missing much.

[She laughs again, shaking her head wryly. She might be speaking from experience, but there's no noticeable bitterness, at least.]

In case you need an alibi for when you sneak around later, since you seem the type, you should know at least one name. I'm Aki.

The type to get caught?

[He's so not getting caught, when he's actually trying not to, gosh!]

Leonardo, nice to meet you.

Yeah, definitely that type.

[She winks, mostly joking. He's probably too good to get caught, but it's no good to get too cocky, either.]

It's nice to meet you, too.

I'm gonna have to find a way to prove you wrong on that one, clearly.

[It's probably a very good thing they're both joking, now.]

You think you can out-sneak me? Even if you're a ninja, that sounds pretty hard.

[This is going to turn into some horrible prank war, isn't i?]

[oh god but pranks are mikey's thing HIS BODY IS NOT READY...]

Is sneaking a, uh, thing for you, or are you just really good?

[You have no chance to escape, make your time.

She tilts her head and considers the question.]

Are you asking if it's a powers thing?

Yeah.

I mean, if that isn't rude.

[Because it's occurred to him that maybe it's not quite the same when you ask someone who didn't grow up in a sewer full of other mutants.]

Hmm... It's fine. We don't have to hide it here, right?

[She shakes her head, still not used to that. It makes her nervous, but there's no better way to get over it but to power through.]

Yeah, it's because of my ability. I can walk through walls and stuff like that, sometimes, so it's hard to out-sneak me!

I can think of a lot of ways that would be useful.

[He sounds a little admiring. What ninja wouldn't want to walk through walls? Even if jumping over them is fun.]

You think?

[Her grin widens.]

It's got some side-effects, but I kinda like it.

[Like leaving her body behind, with nothing to protect it that she hasn't set up in advance, for example.]

You take the bad with the good, right? It's still pretty handy, even dealing with that.

[After all, he's got side effects in the form of being green and scaly...they all have side effects, in a sense, in having to deal with silly amounts of prejudice over the fact that they can do cool stuff like walk through walls.]

[She nods, because unlike a lot of the other kids here, she really is lucky, and she knows it.]

So long as nobody stabs me or anything, yeah! It's a pretty fun power.

[Oops. Her inner morbidity shows itself again.]

[Leo lives a life where that is a general hazard, so it doesn't actually ping him as terribly morbid so much as keepin' it real.]

That's what someone to watch your back is for, isn't it?

Yeah, I guess so, but I've never had to have one before. I just made sure not to get caught.

[She shrugs. She doesn't really have anyone like that, though, so she only gets in an abstract way.]

No Plan B?

You don't need one if your Plan A is good enough.
