For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

[And now we're in here yep yep. Elsa may be staring at the video game consoles with a mix of fascination and concern. They look like they're going to electrocute her...]

....do you know how to hold a controller?

[Might as well start at the basics.]

I... to a degree?

[Surely it can't be much harder than holding anything else. Right?]

It's fine if you don't! I don't mind giving a quick runthrough.

Alright.

[She settles down in front of the TV and picks up one of the controllers, looking at it quizzically.]

...This is a lot of buttons. Do they all have a function? [She's hoping that the game designers were completely irrational and made most of them for show, to be honest.]

[knowitallgoddess]

Some of them do the same thing. It's like that so you can choose whichever ones feel the most comfortable.

[Either way, don't mind as she leans over and explains what each button does, shows her where to put her thumbs, and all that.]

[frigokinetic]

[The controller feels completely alien in her hands; Elsa isn't really sure how she's going to be able to look at the screen and the controller at the same time.]

...Can I watch you play for a while?

[Don't let her, Palutena. She's just trying to NOPE out.]

[She puts on a Scottish accent. It sounds about as well as someone with a Greek accent imitating a Scottish accent could expect. Which wasn't too awesome.]

Imma sorry, Captain but she's a locked into her course already. You'll just have to keep trying!

[It takes Elsa a moment to understand what Palutena had said -- after all, she isn't exactly a perfect English speaker herself, and that was two foreign accents layered on top of one another.]

Keep trying? Well... alright.

[She takes a breath and looks at the screen.]

What we're going to play is the funnest multiplayer game ever, Super Bash Sisters. Surely you've heard of it.

Not particularly.

That's something else we're going to have to work on. But we'll get to that later.

[First is getting to the character select screen.]

[Elsa cries internally as she stares at the layers upon layers of menus. After a lot of aimless poking, she finally makes it to a regular ol' character select screen! Yay!]

...Which one should I be?

With a game like this, you can pick whichever one looks best to you. That's the beauty of party games.

[frigokinetic]

[Elsa considers this and goes flipping through the options, before settling on... Kirby. Because Kirby.]

I'll use this one.

He's really cute, isn't he?

[Can't really say no to that. So she picks Jigglypuff. Because double puff balls.]

[frigokinetic]

He is.

[Kirby... Jigglypuff... these are such strange names.]

[Eventually, they get dropped onto the battlefield proper, and Elsa exprimentally starts walking around the arena... only to promptly fall over the edge.]

I hate to say it but the point is to try to stay on the stage....

[Thankfully level one computers aren't aggressive.]

...Oh.

[Every part of her brain is telling her to just cut it out now before she embarrasses herself any further, but... she's supposed to not be doing that anymore.]

So the game is... just standing on stage?

[knowitallgoddess]

Almost but not quite. You have to beat up the other team so they can't stand on the stage anymore. Everyone as a health percentage. The higher the percentage, the easier it is to get knocked off.

A percentage... I see. So you are taken off for sure when you get to 100 percent?

[IF ONLY SHE KNEW.]
