For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

[[ ooc: This is the general mingling post for all of our characters to get settled into their rooms, get to know each other, reminisce with old friends, all that jazz. The log will be split into multiple locations. ]]

-Bridget's eyes lit up, gleefully taking the book. He was only in biology this semester. This would go a long way in helping understand how his powers worked.-

... [ Soren makes a noise of acknowledgement and then sits down on his bed again, pulling a leg up and wrapping his arms around it as he rests his chin on his knee. ]

If you haven't learned the math for it, I have math books too...

Oh no, lad, MATHS I've got. Dad was an engineer, right? He made sure my brother and I were well up on our maths. I woulda started on Algebra early but... well. Homeless for a year and all.

Ah. . . . for a year? Something happen to your father?

[kickstart_my_heart]

W-well, no, he's fine... I just ran away.

[tactlesstactician]

[ Soren just kind of stares at Bridget for a moment. ]

Why? Didn't like mutants?

[kickstart_my_heart]

... Didn't like the feeling of being a bird in a cage. I can't watch everything from home. I can't be locked away forever, no matter how much dad said it was for my own good...

I want to find my own path in life.

[tactlesstactician]

I see.

[ Soren heaves a sigh. ]

But you brought the robot bear with you.

[kickstart_my_heart]

Well... I like having something to cuddle with at night, if I'm gonna be honest. I've had Roger since I was little.

[tactlesstactician]

[ Envy sparks briefly in Soren's expression, but he quickly stifles it. ]

... will you ever go back?

[kickstart_my_heart]

... Don't know. I love my dad... and I know he loves me... but right now, I gotta be my own person. Dunno where that's gonna take me.

[tactlesstactician]

[ He nods and remains in pensive silence for a time after that.

Who knows where time and this place will take any of them, really...?

Eventually, if Bridget doesn't have anything further to say, Soren will flop back on his stomach (careful not to roll onto his back) to resume reading his book. ]

-Bridget set the book aside, laying on his own bed and letting out a sigh.-

So, uh... Whatcha readin'?

I went and stared at my bookshelf and then just picked a high school textbook at random

[ Turns a page. ]

The Unfinished Nation. . . . it's one of the history textbooks.

... Oh bugger. American history. My dad only briefly touched on it, and usually only in the context of advancements in science and engineering.

[tactlesstactician]

Mm. I didn't attend school most of my life, so I'm mostly just trying to get caught up on things I would have learned here. [ here being America. ]

[kickstart_my_heart]

Mm... Do you think we could study together, then?

[tactlesstactician]

... [ Soren hesitates, chewing on his lip. ]

What do you do when you study together?

[ What does one do? He's used to just reading and taking notes. ]

[kickstart_my_heart]

You know, do our homework together, quiz each other, stuff like that. I mean, we're gonna be living together, might as well make the most of it, right?

Plus I can already tell you're a smart bloke. Probably brighter than me, at least. I'd like the help if I can get it, and you seem nice!

[tactlesstactician]

[ Soren shifts and looks away, uncomfortable with being complimented - particularly with being told he seems nice. And he's never really been asked for help much, either.

So in the end he shrugs. ]

... if you... if you want to...

Then it's settled! And don't be afraid to ask me for help on anything either, okay? We can look out for one another!

[tactlesstactician]

[ He nods, though there's something doubtful in his expression. Trust isn't something that come easily to him, and trusting another person to look out for him even in some small way doesn't really sit right. ]

[kickstart_my_heart]

-If Bridget caught it, he didn't show it, flopping back onto his bed and letting out a sigh.- Ugh, jet lag... I think I might take a nap.

[tactlesstactician]

... do you want to be woken up for dinner?

[ Provided it doesn't get too noisy in the hallways, Soren probably won't be going anywhere. ]
