For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

"What's got you so interested today?"

He certainly seemed focused on whatever he was doing. That and he knew Hijikata was quite an accomplished swordsman. Simply the idea of 'swordsman' was what drew interest from Sam. The more people to 'dance' with, the better.

"Is there something happening in Europe these days? The news can't seem decide what is most important."

"A variety of things, I'm sure." Though at the moment, he was reading about a proposed policy change in Genosha... With a look like he was developing a headache, or considering claiming he was, he set the tablet face-down on the table.

"What do you want?" He wasn't a man who wasted a lot of time.

"Must a person always want something?" He took a break to chug a bit more out of his can, burp, and give a soft apology in Portuguese.

"Being social is a key tenant of a solid team, I say. All I am in want of is words, I suppose."

He had never been very good at teams, he thought, with an inward grimace. Oh, there'd been one or two that had worked well enough for him, but those had been happy accidents. He suspected that it was because, while he liked the theory of people, he found far too many of them obnoxious in reality.

"You don't seem too short on them."

"Not at all. And I am certain your blade is not short of words either."

Because kendo instructors are someone his eyes would never pass over. Coming from someone who believed that words, thoughts, and feelings could pass through swords, it was a odd prospect.

Ah, was that what he was angling for? Hijikata certainly didn't suppose he objected -- though really, what did he mean about his sword's "words"?

"It might have something or other to say to you, I imagine."

He wondered if swords could "talk" about the importance of not hmmm-ing at people who were trying to drink their damn tea.

"Yes, yes, that is what I like to hear."

If he had his sword on him now, he'd be leaning on it and circling around the room. Without it, he just finished his can of coke, crushed it, and drop-kicked it like a soccer ball (or futebol in his case) into the trashcan.

"After classes today, perhaps? Give your students a good measure of what a truly expert level confrontation would be like?"

He thought himself that good, did he? Well, either this would be extremely satisfying, or disappointing and a little sad. That hadn't generally stopped him from pursuing opportunities before.

"If you think you're up to the challenge. Outside the gym, then. What time?"
