WHERE: The whole campus.
WHEN: September 1st, 2018
WARNING(S): None. If anything goes into warning territory, please create a new log for it.

For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

[[ ooc: This is the general mingling post for all of our characters to get settled into their rooms, get to know each other, reminisce with old friends, all that jazz. The log will be split into multiple locations. ]]

"Very true. I mean, it's not stopping me from trying different ways to do the same thing. Powers are funny like that. Sometimes you have to work around them to get them to do what you want."

She pats the tree and shakes her head, "So is yours simply the wings--and well, the eyes? If you don't mind my asking."

"Not entirely—I'm stronger than you'd expect for my size, as well." Remilia walked closer to the tree, in hopes she'd find what Madeline found so interesting. As she did so, the young woman splayed her hands in front of her, showing off the (painted) robust little claws in place of her fingertips and nails.

"I'm afraid I know nothing of working around powers, either. Everything my mutations can do is involuntary." Madeline still hadn't called her a vampire, so Remilia was more than willing to respond civilly.

"My powers were involuntary at first, but shifting is something you learn to control I think. I sometimes wonder if it's harder to deal with things like yours, where you can't control, or ones where people expect you to have some control."

She eyes the claws and glances up at her, "And physical mutations are completely non-controllable and extremely visible so that adds another layer of difficulty to it."

Remilia makes a little 'ha' noise at that.

"Your situation, by far. There is no difficulty to mine; it's simply how I am. No more than you would question the color of your hair." Never mind that Remilia's only recently stopped binding her wings when she goes out into the city. Regardless, Remilia stood up a little straighter as she spoke.

"Involuntary, yes, but I'd rather think I'm always in control, so as long as I'm in control of myself." She gestured vaguely to Madeline's previously-pine arms. "I've never had to figure out anything like that. Learning to fly is like learning to run. Well, with little more gravity."

"So I hear. My best friend flies, feathered wings, but really--I guess I always assumed it was harder for people who couldn't pass for human. I suppose it differs depending on how much you care."

She laughs, shrugging, "I'm guessing you never had to worry about losing control in a crowd at least."

"No, only my temper. It makes me cringe, thinking back on it now." Remilia lifted a hand to her temple, laughing quietly. "My mutations were apparent and birth, and my strength and my claws grew in long before my manners."

She shook her head, refolding her wings. "It's always interesting to hear how others phrase that bit." Remilia made a vague gesture with her hand. "That 'human' bit."

"Oh--well. I guess it's habit. People here phrased it that way to me, spoke about how I could, you know, pass as human. I suspect there's a bit of a divide, who has it worse. I think you all do, I mean, I know no one looks at me and worries I'm a mutant with unfathomable powers or such nonsense."

She shrugs, "I don't think I blame you for having a temper. People can be cruel. Non mutant humans doubly so. Sometimes manners can only help so much."
