Opening Day [OPEN]
WHO: EVERYONE
WHAT: Mingle/Figure out Room Assignments/Meet old friends again
WHERE: The whole campus.
WHEN: September 1st, 2018
WARNING(S): None. If anything goes into warning territory, please create a new log for it.

For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.
[[ ooc: This is the general mingling post for all of our characters to get settled into their rooms, get to know each other, reminisce with old friends, all that jazz. The log will be split into multiple locations. ]]

"I am..." the girl paused, she sat down on the bed as she readied herself to say it. She hadn't really used this name before, even if it was her's, "Laura Kinney. I am repeating part of my senior year after dropping out for personal reasons." She didn't look much older than 18. But she's a mutant with one of the strongest healing factors in the world, so that would be a side-effect.
no subject
Arturia assumed that pause was because of the revelation of repeating classes or having dropped out. To her, it wasn't something she was going to judge. They all had their personal reasons for things. Her own happened to make it look like she'd gotten a really bad, scrawling red tattoo up the side of her neck toward her cheek.
"Arturia Pendragon is my name. But if you would rather call me Saber, I will not object. I do understand my name can be a mouthful at times."
no subject
"I will call you what you prefer, it is your name. That is important." Says the girl who went by a project designation for several years.
no subject
Arturia furrowed her brow in thought. Which did she prefer? Her family name was her legacy, but she didn't feel connected to it. She had too much anger and looked at the world far different than she did a few months ago.
"...Saber. It is more fitting these days."
no subject
"More fitting?" Choice of a name was fairly important, she was curious as to why one would choose to take the name of a weapon over the name you are born to.
no subject
But her attention stayed more on the subject of her name. How was it more fitting? "Indeed. Times change and sometimes the past no longer has the claim it once did." A pause. "Or sometimes the past is too engrained to let go."
no subject
She considered the brief, if flowery, explanation. "I understand." Of course, Laura didn't follow up with any elaboration. But to have something so weighted down with the past can become too heavy too carry... or eventually wear away and it is too light to keep hold of. And it must float away.
no subject
"Besides it helps remind people that I am a knight more so than my family name does. Apparently no one reads around here or I come across far more intimidating unarmored than I thought I did."
no subject
"I don't find you intimidating."
no subject
Saber hadn't thought Laura found her intimidating. The way she carried herself spoke of a strength of some sort that a lot of the other students hadn't acquired yet.
no subject
"Humans are never simply one thing. It would be easier if that was the case."
no subject
And with that, Saber decided she needed to change the subject before it turned toward a topic that stirred her rage. Thankfully, Laura's stuffed animal made an excellent focal point.
"What did the poor bear do to get himself shot?"
no subject
"I did not understand the nature of the game. And I wanted it." Laura closed her eyes for a moment to try to be less like who she was. And more like who she wished to be. "I did not have a normal childhood. That is why I keep trying to learn how humanity functions. Even if I am not scientifically speaking, human."
Technically there was even more philosophical and religious debate on if she was anywhere near human, if she had a soul, or if she was safe to leave near innocent children. But she had to believe they were wrong about her.
no subject
Saber allowed herself a few more steps into the room, eyes on the bear. She almost reached out to pick it up, but stopped herself. "Do you keep it as a reminder?"
no subject
"No, I did not stop wanting it. Being damaged is not enough reason to get rid of something." She was getting out her shoes, other than a pair of dress shoes... all of them had the same vertical slice in the toes. Like someone stabbed a knife through them.
This included a pair of steel toed work boots.
no subject
Perhaps it was some fashion thing she didn't understand or... it had been a shoe massacre. The weird appearance of the collection distracted Saber from the conversation they had been embroiled in.
no subject
Laura understood that metal claws like Wolverine was an unnerving concept, but she was not ashamed of them. They were too useful for her to hide away. It was also far more practical to do this before she needs to fight in a new pair of shoes.
no subject
"That is a far more practical reason than any I had speculated."
no subject
Laura considered a moment, she was already into the explanation of her abilities. She might as well not stop halfway. "I have claws in my hands too. My gloves are the same, but I put them away first."
no subject
"I am not surprised you possess those as well. It would be unbalanced and awkward to have only physical weaponry upon your feet. The body naturally strives for internal balance. I assume the X-gene does as well."
no subject
Laura had to consider a moment how to best explain herself without getting into complicated specifics that were incredibly personal, incredibly unnerving, and dangerous to know. So she omitted any comments she may have had about how 'nature' does not figure into her creation.
"I am a genetic relation of Wolverine. Most of my abilities are similar to his, the variation in my claws isn't readily understood, but the speculation is it has to do with gender."
no subject
Saber then tilted her head a bit. "Is Wolverine your father?"
no subject
Laura stares at Saber for a few awkward moments. "It is complicated."
no subject
And it was always good to know if there were potential family issues going on. Father/daughter ones were never enjoyable.
no subject
"Hopefully you will not need to fight, but there is little chance that nothing will go wrong." She had returned to a more passive voice, the same quiet but stern tone she had been using this conversation, her 'casual' tone.
