For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

"There is... a library?" he asked, eyes shading to gold, still dull, however. Schools had libraries? Now that the boy had said it, he vaguely thought he recalled reading about that, but it had never been a part of his life, and had not stuck with him. So... libraries weren't just for homes? He had long since finished all the interesting books in the library, but he could reread something. It did not even occur to him that different libraries would have different books. Then the other thing said caught up to him. "Book.... club?" he asked. Why would someone use a book as a club? It didn't seem like a useful weapon, not that he had much experience with weapons in general.

[batteredbatter]

"Yeah, of course," said Koshi with a smile, nodding. It was kind of like talking to a little kid in some ways. "I haven't visited it, but with how this place is? I'm sure it's huge."

As for book clubs... well, Koshi didn't actually know if they had one here, or even what book clubs really did, he just knew his middle school had one and they weren't that uncommon.

"Yeah. They'll probably have a club week soon and you can look around if they have one then."

[tiamaris]

He was... so confused. The gold in his eyes got even foggier, the colour even duller. The poor boy was so lost and confused. "They have a week for blunt force weapons?" he asked, completely out of his element. Not... that he actually had an element, per se, as fire did not quite count in this context.

[batteredbatter]

"I... what?" Koshi was confused too. He couldn't really figure out what was going on, since that definitely wasn't the definition of "club" he'd learned. "...wait, like a bat?"

Yeah, this was a disaster.

[tiamaris]

"....The animal or the tool for baseball?" he asked because yes he had read about baseball, and seen it on TV, but... had never played it. To his mind the word tool worked as well as any other he could easily come up with. He hated being confused...

[batteredbatter]

"Uh, the baseball one... but where did you even get that from 'club week' though?" asked Koshi, still not sure how the conversation had gotten here. Then his face lit up in a smile and he grinned. "Oh, are you thinking of joining the baseball team?"

[tiamaris]

"..... how did you get that from this conversation?" he asked, his words so dry, it was a wonder they didn't catch fire. Join... the baseball team.... was he serious? And how did they even get to that? What made him think that?

[batteredbatter]

"...wishful thinking?" Koshi sighed. It seemed like... having a roommate might be even harder than he thought. He figured this conversation was obviously a bust and he might as well just make sure to lay some ground rules if they were going to live together. "Look, just... the only rule I insist on is if the bathroom door is closed, knock. Or y'know, don't go in. Ever."

[tiamaris]

"Don't go in, ever," he repeated dryly. "and just where do you intend that I go?" he asked, eyes a dark burnished orange suddenly, the change startling in the speed and the intensity. The cloudiness fell somewhat away, adding a luminescence to his eyes. This.... person... was going to keep him put of the bathroom, was going to dictate the parts of the room he could and could not use? Was this to be like his father all over again?

Basically, yes, he misunderstood the use of "Ever".

Koshi went ahead and put his hand on his face - what kind of lost-in-translation game was this?

"I mean, when I'm in there," he said with a sigh, wondering if getting a different roommate was hard.

[tiamaris]

".....Oh." His eyes shaded back towards gold. "why would I want to?" he asked, confused. Why would it have even come up? Did people generally walk in when other people were in the bathroom? At home it had been one of the few safe places that he could hide, but he never quite dared to push that safety, to test it by hiding in there overlong, lest he loose it as a place of...relative.... safety.

[batteredbatter]

"I dunno, like, if you just wanted to grab something you left in there or whatever that only took a second... I don't know how casual some people are, but I'd really like my privacy at least then, okay? I mean, not that I'm saying you would-" Though he totally wouldn't put it past space-case here, "-but just, y'know. To prevent any misunderstandings in the future."

[tiamaris]

"You, likewise, will not come in when I am in there," he said simply, coolly.

[batteredbatter]

"Of course," said Koshi with a sigh, not sure what he'd even been worried about. Feeling kind of exhausted from it all, he collapsed on the bed. "Who knew the first day of school would be so rough?"

[tiamaris]

"We have not yet begin to take classes, I do not believe that this counts," he said dryly. People.... were exhausting...

[batteredbatter]

"I'm at school, I'm exhausted. It counts," said Koshi, voice muffled as he turned over face-down into the mattress. "So where do you come from?"

[tiamaris]

Come...from? Huh? What was that supposed to mean? Having no clue, he also had no answer, and so, he offered none.

[batteredbatter]

"Your country? Or, uh, state? Are you American?" he asked, trying to making it any more clearer what he meant.

[tiamaris]

"Oh...." Well, he hadn't crossed any oceans to get here, so that meant... same country, Right? "Here," he said, after a long moment. He had no clue what state he was from. Was it odd? He was not sure. he knew not his own address, his own phone number, but never thought much of it before this...

(Sorry the reply took so long, we are fighting to get out internet connection fixed and in the process made it worse.)

Here, huh? That was... incredibly vague. He wondered if anyone else had roommates this mysterious. Or vague.

"R, right... well, I'm from Japan! I mean, before we moved, so I've been here about half a year. Still, first time going to school here!" he said with a smile, deciding it was easier just to say some things about himself.

[tiamaris]

Japan. Okay, that had been on TV, and he had read about stories that took place in Japan. So that meant... Samurai, Ninja, Geisha, schools, and salary-men, right? Whatever those were. As far as Tiamaris knew, everyone there wore all black, or suit shirts with ties, or kimonos, or armor with swords. So.... maybe the boy was trying to act more American? He was not sure. He... had the feeling he was supposed to say something here, but he wasn't sure what. Should he ask something about Japan? If so, what? He had no clue...

But he supposed there were... safer things to say, right? There had to be... something. He tried to think of something, anything, finally he said "When do classes start?" Not... the most intelligent of questions. He hoped his demeanor would keep the boy from poking fun at that... or hitting him.

[batteredbatter]

"I guess tomorrow?" said Koshi, a little fuzzy on the fact himself. "I'm in the 10th grade, what year are you?"

Tiamaris looked older than him, but pretty much everyone over the age of 12 looked older than Koshi, so that wasn't really much of a measurement at all.

[tiamaris]

What year? Oh, yes, they had said something about that. He tried to recall, then it clicked. "Tenth as well," he said quietly. Was there some significance to the fact that they were given the same number? He understood, more or less - in theory - how school worked, but he had never before experienced it.

[batteredbatter]

"Hey, so we might have some of the same classes," he said with a smile as he sat up, cheering up considerably. Still, there was a depressing reality to face knowing they were probably around the same age. "...man, you're tall!"

No, Koshi, you're just a tiny gremlin-like child.

[tiamaris]

"Am I?" he asked. The words were flat, not curious, but he was. Well, a little. He had never before had a chance to measure himself against anyone his own age, so he honestly had no idea how he compared. In any way.
