For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

[...Kanji's a little confused here, to say the least.

To be more accurate would be to note that he's blinking, trying to work out if this is a guy or girl, and maybe there's a couple of flustered sparks popping off him - damn, he needs to sort that out when he gets a chance, but priorities...

So he scratches his head, and just gives the simple answer.]

Uh. Yeah. Just moved in.

[Oh, good. It'd be kind of awkward if he accidentally gave a present to his downstairs neighbor's brother who was helping him move in or something.]

[He holds out the bag. It's pink, with a little white ribbon on it.]

Here, I like, brought back more souvenirs from Warszawa than I actually have a clue what to do with, and I'll get super fat if I eat it all myself. Share it with your roomie, and remember I was nice to you if I get too noisy upstairs!

[...This is totally how we do interpersonal courtesy, right? He's trying.]

[Why is this guy (okay, said upstairs, has to be a guy) giving him cute bags of stuff. Why. ...Not that he's really complaining, far from it! But...

So, somewhere between caution and bafflement, but not wanting to turn down a gift, he reaches out to take it.]

...Huh. Thanks. Haven't seen my roomie yet, but I'll tell him. [A bit of a pause, and he starts to look into the bag -] What's this?

[Feliks bites his lip a little, leaning back on one heel, hip out to the side slightly. He plays with his hair as he things, his hand now free of the bag.]

Um... bunch of stuff? Some gingerbread, some sesame cookies, some of the little chocolates with the liqueur, some chocolates with marzipan, some... kukulki, I don't know, I guess kinda chocolate-caramel-liqueur things? And these little plum flavored cookies.

And some paluszki.

[Had to cover the bases.]

I figured you guys are probably in high school, so like, no wódka?

[Okay, snacks he can't even begin to pronounce - his English might be reasonable enough by now, but the other bits? Well, not a bad thing. They certainly look nice enough.

Shame about the vodka, though. But - oh, well. Wouldn't be expecting anything like that in school. He pulls out what looks vaguely like a Pretz stick to his eyes and gives it a thoughtful nibble, not wanting to go straight to the sweet stuff.]

Damn. You weren't kiddin' about 'got too much stuff'.

[He did bring some vodka, but not for everyone. Six years ago, he got half the student body drunk once, but now that he's only barely a college student anymore, it'd suddenly be a lot sketchier to go sharing with high school kids.]

Right? I don't know, I went into this snack shop and I totally lost it a little. It all just looked so good!

So? Are you like, gonna introduce yourself, or what?

[The sudden change from 'here have some candy' catches him off guard-]

Hey, you came into my room, you introduce yourself!

What, I bring you food and I have to go first?

[Really, he wouldn't mind, except Kanji just told him to, and he's a bit of a contrary little thing when challenged. And talking to strangers is still a little nerve-wracking for him, which means he ends up a little quicker on the defensive than usual.]

[Feliks' defensiveness catches Kanji out again. Sheesh, he was just... While he softens a touch out of not wanting to entirely scare the guy this soon, he's not backing down.]

I wanna know who brought the food, right?

[He's gotten better with strangers over the years -- outright panic and avoidance and occasional aggression has given way, at least at the school, to cautious optimism. But...]

[It's harder, even now, with guys like Kanji. Big ones, masculine and assertive ones. He doesn't necessarily think poorly of them on a conscious level, but part of him is still getting over how his mid-teens taught him, again and again, that that sort of boy is dangerous. But at least he's not really afraid anymore -- just sort of excessive in his reactions, just in case.]

Well, I'll tell you, in just a sec after you tell me!

[And at this point, he's just annoyed. What the heck is this guy playing at? Sparks are literally flying for a brief moment, before- whatever.]

Fine. It's Kanji Tatsumi. Okay?

[When Kanji backs down on the point of contention, Feliks realizes (a bit too late) how unimportant it was, and he feels kind of abashed. He can be immature, sure, but arguing with a high schooler over who introduces themselves first?]

...Feliks Łukasiewicz.

I, um. You're Japanese?

[The shape of the name is familiar, after all the Japanese mutants he's known here-- among them, his first roommate.]

[And anyway, he's trying to talk about something other than that awkward and thoroughly pointless confrontation he knows he just initiated.]

[Kanji nods at Feliks' introducing himself at last, but he's clearly still a spot grumpy as he replies. No point in not at least saying that much, given how easy it is to guess...]

Yeah. Moved t' the States a coupla years ago.

[Feliks has enough social awareness to tell he's still sort of grumpy. He fidgets, trying not to play with his hair too much, internally pep-talking himself: come on, Feliks, you can do this! You can talk to the stranger!]

Cool, cool. Like, my first roomie was Japanese. I mean he still is?

...My family moved here about 12 years ago. To America, I mean.

[That gets a bit more of a nod, and Kanji's starting to relax. Looks like they've got some common ground at least.]

Where d'ya come from, then?

[This is a safe topic for Feliks, one he's pretty confident of his ability to talk about; he brightens up quickly, though his fidgeting continues in the form of adding and removing a little lace trim at the hem of his skirt.]

I'm like, from Poland! My family came to America for my dad's work when I was 10-ish, though?

[Ah. From his limited geography expertise, that does all line up...]

Huh. How was it when ya first got here? Took me ages t' get used to it...

Considering when I came over, I pretty much knew, like, my ABCs and a couple of movie catch phrases? I think I did okay!

It was kinda hard to find cool friends before I came here, though, I guess.

[Which is to say, y'know. He was relentlessly bullied, but the past is in the past, right?]

[Both of them. Some things might have improved when he got to the USA, but running head-first into a language barrier? Not his idea of fun.
He scratches his head for a bit. ]

[Feliks finds that Kanji is much more... Approachable, when he smiles. He relaxes a little, leaning against the doorframe.]

So... how long have you been in America?

[Kanji pauses for a moment, then shrugs-]

Just told ya, man. Coupla years. I moved when I was thirteen.

That was an OOC mistake, but I'll roll with it because Feliks is flighty enough to space on that.

...Right! I was totally paying attention when you said that!

[He was, too, but it just sort of slipped his mind, and now he feels awkward again! He fidgets, going a little pink. Nice job, Feliks, way to not convince the new student you're a complete airhead!]

So, um, anyway, I came to give you the candy, annnnnnd I totally did! So like, mission accomplished! See you!

[And now an attempt is made to flee.]

[What is with this guy? (Honestly, Kanji's well aware that he's probably turned the surly defensive bit up a bit high, but still... old habits and all that.)]
