For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

Good enough for Reimu, at least.

"Reimu Hakurei. X-Man. Codename Kannushi." Plus his was significantly shorter.

He has heard of the name Hakurei before. A quick search in his memory turned up tales of a miko who had been one of Japan's very few respected mutants. They might be related, then.

"I see. A pleasure to make your acquaintance."

It must be good to at least have a family.

[musou_tensei]

"Likewise... Want a cheese puff?" Reimu nudged at the massive container. Sure, he could definitely eat the whole thing himself without even breaking a sweat. But it was polite to share. Which was remarkable considering how rude he'd been up to this point.

The offer catches him unawares - he falls silent for a moment, covering up his thought processes with a slow, deliberate blink.

"I am fine. Thank you." He isn't quite sure if that thing is vegetarian, in any case.

[musou_tensei]

"Sorry for mistaking you for a student, in any case." Ah, there was the apology. It just took some... awkward silence to get it out.

[thirdarrow]

"That's alright. It's happened quite a few times."

He says this evenly, without a single hint of annoyance. (He'd never admit it, but pointing his staff status out has been quite satisfying on a few occasions.)

[musou_tensei]

"Ever thought of growing a beard? Couldn't hurt." And then the conversation careened back into awkward territory.

[thirdarrow]

"For some reason, I have not been able to. It may be due to a genetic cause."

Well, he could theoretically do a bit of stubble but his hair follicles seemed to always give up trying every time they manage to put out a tiny bit of golden fuzz. So he just shaves it off every time this happens.

Plus, beards look strange.

[musou_tensei]

"I'm kind of the same. I almost wish I could. I hear facial hair is a good deterrent against fanclubs." What a unique sort of problem to complain about...

.... he isn't quite sure how to respond to that. While he could see that perhaps Reimu might attract some attention, the way he said it makes it hard to come up with a reply.

"And by that you mean...?"

Fanclubs...???

[musou_tensei]

"So it's these girls, right? They make websites and they collect pictures and some of them even send me marriage proposals. But, okay, they're like... all in the 13-17 year old age range. It's creepy. Especially when they stalk me at the shrine."

... oh. That kind of fanclubs. He's seen girls do this back at his school, but never really paid attention to them. They never paid attention to him, and he had better things to do - like study.

But now, talking to someone who received their (unwelcome) admiration... it's come full circle, in some way.

"I hope none of them are within this school?"

[musou_tensei]

"I haven't noticed anything like it yet, at least. One can only hope." A long sigh.

[thirdarrow]

"Well, if you do, your status as a teacher will give you some measure of authority to intervene."

He closes his book, becoming slightly more serious.

"Though I doubt the root cause will ever be solved. We can only try to alleviate its effects." He nearly said 'symptoms', but luckily catches himself before the word can slip out.

[musou_tensei]

"... I'm not sure if I should take that as a compliment or not." Because really, the root cause was Reimu's looks.

It's half a compliment. Or rather, as much of a compliment as Takakage can give.

"Ah, pardon me, I was merely thinking out loud." His expression has not changed, though. "Unfortunately I doubt I can assist you with this issue."

[musou_tensei]

"I was mostly just commiserating." Reimu rarely expected people to give enough of a damn about his petty issues and hangups to do anything about them.

[thirdarrow]

He nods, but decides not to reply. He has no advice to offer Reimu, nor anything else worth saying, so he resorts to silence instead.

It takes a few moments, but he does find something socially appropriate for the occasion.

"Good luck."
