[Eren distrusts the liberal news media, and he resents being made to take meals out in public, with the other students. He wants to eat by himself, not out here with all these mutants. So he bolts his food as quickly and angrily as possible, mostly ignoring the news. Yet when he hears the report about the election, he perks up. Finally, something good!]

Good! It's about time. They need to be kept in line.

[Note: He would be much less likely to say this if there were a younger student around, but anyone can feel free to encounter the new kid eating angrily, without the involvement of politics.]

[Feliks genuinely pities the Hell out of Eren. And he's trying to have, like, Christian compassion for him, because it's legitimately horrible what's happened to him because of people with and without mutations.]

[Eren glares at Feliks, who is not one of his favorite people. He is unapologetic about his opinion.]

I mean mutants who don't behave themselves and who threaten humanity.

I can't wait. I'm going to sign up as soon as I can.

[Feliks is equally unapologetic. He rolls his eyes, shoving a tray of perfectly good homemade cabbage rolls away from himself. Not hungry anymore.]

Sweet. Then you can get in on all the "being harassed by assholes" action the rest of us have been enjoying for years!

Also, it's cute that you think "not staying in line with your head down" and "being a violent hellbeast who needs to be kept down" are exactly the same. How's that not fascist, again?

I know how much you like to put words in my mouth. I'm talking about the ones who don't obey laws and use their powers to hurt people.

[Eren is still hungry, because his metabolism is a force to be reckoned with. So he's keeping his food with him, although he stops bolting it down long enough to talk, glowering at Feliks over his tray.]

Everyone knows everyone here is a mutant already. It's not going to change anything for me. It's just a registration law. The real problem is going to be the reaction. They're not ready enough.

I'm still not sure what it all means... -It was full moon season, and Kagerou was completely covered from head to toe so that none of her fur would show, but it was obvious her ears were still there with the way they twitched under her hood. She'd need to find a way to fix that at some point...-

In Japan, you only had to register if you were actively using your powers for law enforcement...

[Eren looked at her. Of course he knew all the kids here were mutants, but the ones who clearly looked like them were the weirdest. He could see she had dog or cat ears or something under her hood.]

In England and Canada, it's different. So it'll be more like that. It's just a list so the government will know about dangerous powers. To stop innocent people from getting hurt.

People worry about new things. No one ever knows what's going to happen. You have to be as prepared as you can be, that's all.

[Eren's head is so hard that he hardly registers the blow, and his healing factor makes any minor injury irrelevant. He hardly has time to hurt before it heals. However, he's displeased regardless.]

[You can't take away his freedom of speech! He glares at Sam. He doesn't care much for his dumb tally.]

There's no clause! All I said was I support a law proposed by the government, here in the United States. Which is my country! My parents came here before I was born!

[Eren stiffens and tenses and is barely able to restrain himself from grabbing Sam's tray from his hands and throwing it across the room.]

If one more person says I hate gay people, I'll—

[He breaks off instead of saying what he'll do, but he looks extremely mad about it. For once, he tries to keep himself in check, but he might even be a little scarier, as it looks like a vein in his forehead is about to burst as he speaks in a low tone, pausing after each word.]

[Koshi's a year older... but at 4'9", it's not surprise Eren might mistake him for younger. He just kind of side-eyes that statement]

[Eren is more defensive than ever after all the conversations he's had here so far. He looks at Koshi guardedly, but nods. He wouldn't have given his opinion out loud if he wasn't prepared to talk about it, but this kid looks younger.]

Yeah, I think so. I want what's best for humanity.

I guess I can understand that but... we're people too. Registration might be okay, but that makes it really easy to move to stuff like monitoring or restricting movement...

Saying you don't like monitoring or restricting movement doesn't have anything to do with a registration law that doesn't say anything about those things.

Those would be separate laws.

Liir pauses from where he's watching the TV, standing up. What Eren said causes his blood to run strangely hot. "...Comprador scum." It slips out of his mouth too fast for him to catch, like a skittering insect. Upon realizing he said it, he looks astonished at himself. Passion like that for anything (save Trism) is new to him. It's like something...Well, something his mother would say.

Eren doesn't know what comprador means, but Liir's tone makes his feeling clear enough. Eren's own reply is quick and equally thoughtless. "You can call me scum all you want, monster. It's not going to change my mind." He's not scum. He has every right to have an opinion in this country!

He pauses, still astonished at himself, and blushing greener by the second. But he's stepped in it now, and the only way to get out, he thinks, is to slog through this uncomfortable swamp.

"Do you think they're going to call you one of the good ones if you use their slurs on me?"

"Of course I don't. They'll fear me, and they're right to!" Eren isn't trying to ingratiate himself with anyone, and he dislikes the very idea. "I'm not trying to get anything for myself. I'm not a hypocrite."

[Normally Takane wouldn't bother to talk to someone randomly during lunch, but she can't help but snort and stop to give him an unimpressed look when she hears that.]

Yeah, that's exactly the kind of thing that's a good idea to say in a room full of mutants.

[Eren shrugs and scowls at the same time. He doesn't care what they do to him. He's a prisoner here, anyway. If they take away his right to free speech, too, that will just prove his point.]

I'm not afraid of mutants. I have every right to voice my opinion to support a law. Every American does! Even if you don't like it.

[She's wondering why she bothered with this in the first place, but oh well.]

What it means is that I can say what I want about it, and if people don't want me to, that's too bad.

But I think it is the smart thing to do, yeah.
