[ Sam's sure he's heard that term before. Or well. Yes, technically, he has. He can't not have in all honestly, but he's sure he's heard it somewhere else a lot more recently and it wasn't on the news. Wrack his brain as he might though he can't quite place it--so instead he just pulls it up on his phone.

While lying on his back in the east lawn, legs propped up and folded over the edge of a cement bench. It is totally not using it wrong, this is how he best thinks. And he is going to get this, he just needs to think a bit harder here... ]

--Oh!! They're the grumpy people that guy mentioned!! [ Nailed it. That totally answers that. ]

-Bridget stared for several moments, blinking at Sam before shaking his head.-

That's not real specific, mate.

[ Oh gosh and here he thought he was alone. Sam takes one minute to look up at whoever's addressing him, and although his vision is very much upside-down he thinks it's...a girl?? It sounded like a girl. He's never looked up at a girl from this angle before oh gosh he's never looked up at a girl from this angle before--

Sam drops his phone and rolls off from his back quickly...or well, tries. His legs are still hugging the bench so he has to try and coordinate bringing those down before he hastily pushes himself up, grass in his hair and on his shoulders. ]

Oh--err...uh. yeah. [ She's so cute...!! ]

-Another slow blink.- Are you alright? -Was it something he said?-

[ Nope, just those babydoll blue eyes. Sam's in awe. ]

[ Bridget...even her name is sweet! And that accent! It's all fancy and exotic and pretty. ]

Y, yeah! Just a little while ago...I--uh, came on a tour first! But then they accepted me. And um. I'm a student now. [ Duh. ]

Oh, hello.

[Kariya, who was just passing by, hadn't noticed Sam at first, having not initially noticed him and his creative use of the bench from the angle he was approaching from. He smiles, because he approves of creative uses of things, even outdoor furniture.]

Grumpy people? Not too many, I hope.

[He offers a soft laugh.]

[ What a way to be caught by someone he's sure has to be a teacher of some kind. He looks like a teacher, what with being old enough and all, and Sam quickly drops his phone in surprise when he realizes it...smacking himself in the face. ]

--Ow. Urgh... [ Give him a second here not to look like a total goofball. And roll over and get to his feet and all that. ]

H-hello! Sir...

Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to startle you.

[All concern, Kariya reaches out and offers his hand to help Sam up, his smile turning apologetic.]

Are you all right?

[ And on reflex Sam reaches out to take it...but hesitates. He's not sure if touching someone he doesn't know the power of would be a good idea--what if the guy suddenly liquefied??

Very quickly he gets himself back on his feet with a flustered, apologetic look. ]

I'm fine! Just hit my nose is all, hehe...

[Kariya doesn't seem to mind when his hand isn't taken, drawing it back without comment. It's not unusual for students to have powers that are related to touch, to be wary of contact with others. He would notice a loss of power, but it wouldn't affect him in any significant way. However, he'd agree that it's better to be cautious.]

I'm sorry. But it looks all right.

[He would offer to take Sam to the nurse, because he tends to worry, but he does seem fine, and he said he's all right.]

I'll have to be sure to make more noise next time.

[But he's just joking a little. It's not so serious.]

I'm Kariya. It's nice to meet you.

Oh! Nice to meet you too, sir! I'm Sam... [ Should he give his last name? This guy could be a professor or teacher or something. ] Grigory.

I just got switched here a little while ago from my old school. [ "So I'm not really sure who everyone is and if I'm supposed to know you." ]

[And right at that moment, Aki leans over where Sam is sitting on the bench, giving him a curious look. She might have let him be if he'd been quiet, but when he's being so excitable, it's hard not to want to involve herself.]

There's a ton of grumpy people around here, so you might want to be more careful about setting someone off.

[Then, she takes a look at his phone's screen, just for a moment.]

Gaahh--! [ Sam was so focused on his phone he gets caught completely off-guard by her appearance--he winds up jolting, dropping his phone of his face, and trying to tumble backwards...while already flat on his back. Suffice to say it doesn't go well. ]

[ He's gonna get this eventually though. And by that I mean he'll hold his poor nose (he dropped his phone on it) and peer up at this...super-cute girl, holy moley? It takes a second for him to find his voice. ]

[Aki winces when Sam has his little panic attack, instinctively taking a step forward to try and help. She's too late, though, and she hardy knows him, so she ends up holding her hands in front of her awkwardly.]

[She guesses his sudden awkwardness is embarrassment for what just happened, so now seems like a good time to make sure he doesn't have internal bleeding or something.]

Sorry for scaring you. You didn't hurt yourself just now, did you?

I'm fine...! It was just my nose! [ Pain in nothing in the face of a super-cutie. This whole school is gorgeous--he knows several of his friends who would kill to go here, mutants or not.

Sam's going to scooch back here so he can get his legs down and sit up properly though. ]

[She relaxes a little, smiling now. If he's not hurt or upset, then there's no problem, and she can put her hands down.]

[She lets out a little laugh, relieved. He seems like a nice kid, after all, and maybe they could be friendly.]

[It's probably sad that somebody, say, transforming into a goat or something wouldn't even get Toushirou to blink anymore, but someone essentially using a bench upside-down does.]

[ Sam is a man of many talents. So so many, like tilting his head up backwards to view Toushiro completely upside-down and exclaim, ]

[Not that its unusual paleness never gets commented on, but that had mostly been when he'd lived in Japan, and then somewhat when he'd still lived with Granny. At a mutant school? Doesn't usually register to people.]

[ Welcome to the wonder of the newly-mutant and rarely-exposed! ]

It's all...white and stuff! Did you bleach it?? [ That's his first assumption because again, not a whole lot of exposure to other mutants outside of TV. Sam's going to tuck his legs in so he can roll over and push himself up kneeling. ]

It looks neat! I've never seen anyone who isn't an old granny or grandpa with white hair. [ ...Err. ]
