For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

[[ ooc: This is the general mingling post for all of our characters to get settled into their rooms, get to know each other, reminisce with old friends, all that jazz. The log will be split into multiple locations. ]]

[Haruka is nestled into one of the couches--well, as nestled as someone who's over six feet tall can be. Haruka has a sketch pad in his lap, scribbling away with a big goofy smile on his face. He looks like he's having a great time with whatever he's drawing, often looking up and around at his surroundings before digging back into his sketch. There are two constants in this scene, the sound of his pencil gently scratching against the paper, and the sound of his stomach rumblings. He'd definitely have to go find where he could grab a snack after this...

Feel free to approach the boy as he doodles away, or get annoyed at the fact that he very well might be drawing you without your permission because that's probably weird.]

[Takane normally wouldn't just start talking to someone here, but she couldn't help but catch a glimpse of his sketchbook and--]

--Is that me? Why are you drawing me?

[drawitagain]

Ah, hello! [He greets her with a great big radiant smile. Oh, are you mad at him? It kinda goes over his head.]

You're just part of the scenery right now, so I kinda had to include you! [He flips the sketchbook towards her, proudly showing off his drawing. It's a very accurate, albeit messy, sketch of the scene opposite of the couch, including Takane and any other students standing around in the foyer.]

It's my first day here, and I wanted to commemorate it with a drawing. [His smile turns a tad sheepish as he presses the eraser of his pencil into his cheek.]

I don't mind erasing you if you don't like being in the picture! Though I do think it's looking nice as is...[Your hairstyle just translates so well to a drawing.]

Wouldn't there just be a big gap in it, then?

[drawitagain]

[That gets a chuckle out of him.]

Well, I'd obviously draw someone else in your place! But I'd probably have to make someone up, and that really makes the picture a lot less authentic, in my opinion...

Ah! I should probably introduce myself before I talk any more...My name is Haruka, today is my first day at the Institute. 10th grade!

[tatatarata]

So you're in my class.

[Not offering up her own name yet.]

[drawitagain]

[Oh, she's in his class too? He smiles a bit more bashfully.]

That's right. I guess from this point on, we'll be classmates!

[Hesitantly, he offers a hand. Go on, shake it!]

[tatatarata]

[She looks at it for a second. Right. No need to be flat-out rude just because she's in a perpetually bad mood...

So a hesitant weak handshake with her refusing to make eye contact is what he gets.]

...Well, that doesn't always mean we'll have the same classes, of course...

[drawitagain]

[What a nice girl!]

Ah, I know...To be honest, this is my first day ever attending a real school! Having classmates at all is pretty exciting!

I hope we can become great friends! [Oh, he finally lets go of her hand.]

Is it okay if I ask your name?

[tatatarata]

[Raising an eyebrow at that. Never been to a class...it's probably rude to ask.]

Uh...it's Takane.

[drawitagain]

Nice to meet you, Takane!

[He motions to the couch he was sitting on.]

Would you like to sit down? I know standing around can get pretty exhausting. And I'm just doodling by myself, so...

[He tries to look as friendly as possible as he asks, wearing an especially bright smile. The truth is he is so very excited. A potential friend...please don't mess this up, Haruka! He ignores the small knot forming in his stomach.]

[tatatarata]

I can handle standing just fine...

[How long does he think she's planning to stick around...]

[drawitagain]

Sure, sure! [Ahaha, well, nobody said making new friends would be easy. She probably has better stuff to do. Or maybe she's having a bad day. It's okay Haruka, not everyone is going to want to hang out with you. It'll probably take you a while to find close friends like normal kids have. He tries hard to get his mind off his nervousness, but ultimately fails. Smiling wearily, he grips his pencil and attempts to go back to sketching.

His anxiousness however, made him lose sense of his strength output.

And the top half of the pencil is ripped off and sent flying into the distance, just barely missing taking Takane's ear off.

Haruka glances over at the remains of the pencil in his hand, and then at the other half now situated at the furthest wall.

Turns to Takane with an extremely nervous chuckle.]

...Hey! That was pretty close, huh? M-My bad! [DON'T BE MAD.]

[tatatarata]

What was that for?!

[She's never seen a pencil move that fast before.]

[drawitagain]

A-a-a-accident! [Raises his hands in surrender.]

I didn't realize how much pressure I was putting on it...

I-It happens a lot, I swear! It just...usually doesn't...get so much distance, wow.

[tatatarata]

Is your mutant power destruction of pencils or something?

[That's sarcasm, of course.]

[drawitagain]

[Haruka laughs pretty hard at that.]

It feels like it sometimes, but no!

I'm just really strong. And sometimes I forget how strong I'm capable of being...

Pretty boring power, I know. It's caused me quite a bit of trouble. [It's also the reason he isn't dead but he makes an effort not to mention his illness to people he just met.]

So many people can do such interesting things here! It's so impressive! All I'm really good for is lifting heavy things and running fast.

[tatatarata]

Well at least you won't have any trouble with all the fighting and stuff, I guess. Everyone makes such a big deal out of it.

[drawitagain]

[Haruka looks away nervously.]

I'm not so sure, actually.

Punching people is...I wouldn't want to hurt anyone! And I'm strong enough that I could really do a lot of damage to someone if I did, so...I'd rather just, help out in other ways!

[tatatarata]

You know they make everyone here do that kinda stuff, right?

[drawitagain]

[Haruka laughs ambiguously. Probably difficult to discern if its sincere or a nervous coverup.]

Sounds like I'm gonna have a hard time here!

I really just want to draw. And eat. And sleep. [He looks at her with a smile.] Those are the things I like best.

I feel like I got the wrong powers, but I guess mutants can't be choosers, huh?

[Haruka pokes himself absentmindedly with the eraser of his now bifurcated pencil.]

Hey, I have an idea! What if I found a partner for the combat classes who's mutant ability was something like intangibility! Then I wouldn't have to worry about accidentally hurting anyone! [Gringrin. Oh Haruka. You are a genius.]

[tatatarata]

Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?

[This guy is definitely...simple.]

[drawitagain]

It's just a class, right? So as long as I have the skills they teach me, it shouldn't matter whether my partner is tangible or not! {Again, so pleased with his own logic.]

Say...You wouldn't happen to have a power like that, would you? [He looks so excited by this prospect. Two birds with one stone!!]

[tatatarata]

Yeah...nothing like that at all, actually.

[batteredbatter]

[HUGE! That guy's huge! Being everything opposite of that, barely 4'9" himself, Koshi's pretty impressed and maybe a little jealous. That's swept away by curiosity though at what he's drawing. Cue Koshi peering over Haruka's shoulder since he's lying on the couch - probably the only way the kid will ever get to look over it.]
