Opening Day [OPEN]
WHO: EVERYONE
WHAT: Mingle/Figure out Room Assignments/Meet old friends again
WHERE: The whole campus.
WHEN: September 1st, 2018
WARNING(S): None. If anything goes into warning territory, please create a new log for it.

For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.
[[ ooc: This is the general mingling post for all of our characters to get settled into their rooms, get to know each other, reminisce with old friends, all that jazz. The log will be split into multiple locations. ]]

His smile twitches a little at that beginning from really the beginning, but he makes no objection, nodding when Takakage gets to the details of what he covers.
"Mm, I've studied a bit of cellular function in, ah, the context, that is, of anatomy. Enough to know how little I truly know, at any rate."
He smiles a touch more broadly, if humbly, at that statement--glances aside a moment, then back to Takakage.
"I know the Krebs cycle and the electron transport chain and so on are cellular energy production systems, their effectiveness measured in ATP, but I couldn't say a great deal about them. What I know about ecosystems is generally from a stance of conservation and political concerns, though, so I'm sure my details are woefully vague, within that topic."
no subject
"You have much of the basics covered, then. Grades Eleven and Twelve mostly involve extensions that build upon what you already know. We delve into genetics and heredity early this year, and when spring comes we will be doing field work to study ecosystem interactions. Conservation requires an understanding of how it functions, to know which parts are endangered by human activity and how best to remedy it."
A pause. Takakage nods, gesturing slightly with his hands.
"Would you prefer classical biology, or molecular biology?"
no subject
"Ahh, a good question. I imagine classical biology would be of the most interest, although keeping a foot in molecular biology, so to speak, might help to lend the study some context. ...and vice-versa, I would imagine." He blinks and smiles a touch sheepishly, seeming to catch himself, there. "......ah, not that I... mean to dictate your lesson plan, of course--I apologize if I spoke out of turn, Doctor."
no subject
He laces the baton between his fingers before continuing. "Please, do not worry about speaking out of turn. A classroom is to be interactive, not an one-way exchange."
A pause. "Our age gap does not seem to be too wide, in any case." So Alric wouldn't feel obliged to give too much respect out of said age gap.
no subject
"Nn, I'm inclined to share that perspective, myself... but, ah... having been educated primarily by private tutors, I'm well aware my preferences may not make for reasonable expectations in a shared classroom. Either way, the teacher deserves some minimum degree of respect, after all."
He does hesitate a little at mentioning the tutors--that might be a bit of a giveaway as to his status, but he's not about to start lying about that, or taking great efforts to conceal it.
no subject
"It's alright. I shall try to accommodate that if you are ever in my class, then." Being educated in multiple public schools, he's had a reasonable handle on how students usually thought and needed. Though that would mean he needs to tweak his plans if Alric ever does attend his classes.
It feels a little inappropriate to ask about Alric's background, so he just leaves it at that and waits for the student to speak.
no subject
If anything, he was concerned the offer might embody a little too much lenience--and wondered silently if perhaps Takekage knew more than he was letting on--but he let that go for the present. If he did know anything, he was at least circumspect enough not to make a show out of it, and it's not a though it was really a secret as such.
no subject
Sure, he's picked up a few teaching styles in Singapore, but that doesn't mean he's going to cut anyone any slack. He can adjust the lesson plans, but the work and end effect does have to be there. Otherwise, he will have to do remedials... depending on the student, it might either be a fruitful lesson, or one of varying degrees of terror.
He can be very serious, after all. No slacking will be tolerated.
no subject
"I assure you, I intend to offer no less than that in my time here, Doctor."
That's a good sign, at least. If Takakage were being deferential, he wouldn't likely go suggesting anything to the contrary, so he's probably just being generally considerate.
"I'll have to see if there are any more... pressing gaps in my education to be addressed, but it does sound like an intriguing subject. And a practical one."
no subject
A pause. Takakage casts his mind around for another topic, and hits on one.
"Where are you from, Alric?" The other seems to be an European, but he cannot concretely pin down anything else.
no subject
"Ah... my family is from Kaitheny, going back... many generations. It is a small nation, so it may of course be unfamiliar..."
He smiles a touch sheepishly.
no subject
"I have heard of the name, but I know naught else." He shakes his head slightly, the gesture almost turning into a half-tilt. Alric's faint hesitation isn't missed - perhaps it ought to be an issue best left untouched. Many people here had darkness in their past, after all.
"American culture is quite unique, though. I hope you are adjusting well?"
(He isn't doing that as well as he hoped, but that isn't the point here.)
no subject
He says the informal title with something of an amused air like it's a quaint or somehow peculiar term, although the amusement doesn't seem to involve any particular hostility.
no subject
"Ah, that is good to hear." He nods slowly, unconsciously transferring the baton to his other hand. "Our school is situated a ways from the city - the culture isn't all that forceful here, at the very least."
It's something he very much appreciates. His nerves could only take so much noise, after all.
no subject
"Mm. I've learned to appreciate the city, certainly, but all else being equal, I much prefer the woodlands, myself."
no subject
"How do you find the school, Alric?" It must be very different from his home, considering how he had been taught mostly by tutors.
no subject
no subject
A pause. He realizes that he may have gone out of point a little.
"If you require any assistance with adjusting, please do not hesitate to contact the teachers."
no subject
He smiled sincerely at the offer of aid, and nodded.
"I believe it will simply be a matter of time. Although if I'm aware of anyone else in need of guidance, I'll certainly keep the faculty in mind."
i hope you don't mind me tying this up here heheheh
"I will be returning to my office soon. Is there anything else I can help with?"
Time to get cracking on the curriculum and draft out lesson plans.

He gives the student another half-nod before making his way back to the faculty buildings.
