For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

She squeezed his hands and grinned, "Then you get to explain to...I don't know? Fai? No he'd think it was cute too, I have horrible betraying friends."

She took a deep breath and pictured two ears on her head. They're black for a moment shimmering, but then calico--and finally orange as she mentally decides what would clash least if she absolutely had to keep them.

"Are they there?" She doesn't want to let go, but she still can't see if they're there.

Kaito tried as well, trying to will his body to let the ears grow while arresting the ability to try to stop it at a certain point, but he wasn't having much success with that. Maddie on the other hand, looked like she was actually getting the hang of it.

"An orange pair of cat ears, yes."

"Success! One trivial part of my powers figured out or at least managed." She goes up a bit on tiptoe to pat his hair, "But nothing for you. How sad."

Look she doesn't really appreciate that he's better at some parts of her own powers than she is. It's too rude.

Was she gloating? "Don't make me lift you up to the top of that tree with my telekinesis." An empty threat, but he would figure out how to do that like she could.

"It's hardly a trivial part, though, Maddie. It's a huge thing, really. Theoretically, you could give yourself the eyes of a hawk and see very far away, the eyes of an owl and see at night, the claws of a lion, the ability to breathe under water like a fish with gills. You've just opened the door to a major thing with your powers."

"I'd text Amelia to get me down." She hums, running her hand down through his hair and shrugging.

"I know it's possible, but I don't even know if these hear or if they're just...there? Like props. I would like to try those things but baby steps. Cat ears are trivial."

She tries to twitch one, it doesn't really work out, "I can't even--I don't know if the muscles are there for moving them--why does shifting have to be so complicated."

"I would distract her with three large pizzas with sausage, bacon and whatever other meats I could pile on there. Or I could just take your phone." Then again, she could just turn into a bird if she wasn't paralyzed by the height.

"Your powers allow you to turn only into living things, doesn't it?" He reaches up to the top of her head and snap his finger hard close to one of the ears. Cats have better hearing than humans, this seemed like a good way to test if she had gained that.

"Something like that. Living things for a broad definition of the word." Her attempts to move them continue, with her only really succeeding in moving the base of the ears, not the swivel cats ears should have. She hears the snap--but it's hard to say if it's more intense than normal.

"...I don't think they work like normal cat ears would. Maybe because I have normal ears still? I don't know." She hums, "Maybe if I made them my only source of hearing, my body would compensate by moving my hearing to them? I'm not sure I want to shift my ears away though."

"It's something to work on. At least you know you can form animal appendages while still being in human form." Now he will just have to work faster at doing it so he can catch up to it. She's not allowed to be better with her own power than he is.

"So. You want to head to the old skating rink after we've had a few days to settle in?" He takes his phone out of his pocket and snaps a picture of her with cat ears as he says this.

"Well I knew I could become Amelia, wings and all, but I sort of thought that was just becoming Amelia you know. And god, yes, I would love to. It's not the best but I miss i--"

He catches her in middle of stretching and she drops her arms, startled for a half second before her mind catches up.

"Hey! No one said pictures were allowed, give me that!" She scrambles to get his phone, "I know your password, I can just delete it later you know!"

Kaito holds is phone just out of her reach. "And I can send this to everyone you know at the school so there will be other copies of the picture." She never said pictures were allowed, but Kaito would have still taken a picture of her even if she said that much.

"It's just a cute little picture of you. Nothing to worry about." He goes ahead and texts the picture to a few of his emails so those copies will be safe. Then he turns the phone to her so she can see what she looks like with the ears.

She loathes his longer arms, this is hardly fair. Harassment. Even on tiptoe this doesn't work and she grabs his shoulder to hoist herself a few precious inches higher.

"Hey--who are you texting that to--Kaito!!" When it finally turns towards her, she turns pink and immediately shifts back to normal.

"I look like a bad halloween costume. Delete it."

"It's only in my personal stash of photos. Don't worry, I'm not going to send it off to anyone." He would need to hide it in a more secret place, though. He doesn't want her getting into his e-mail accounts and deleting those copies.

"And it's only you that thinks that. I like the way you look with the ears. I only wish you did the tail too."

"Your personal stash of photos is a worrying term. What else is hidden in there besides terrible photos of cat ears."

She reaches for the phone, studying the picture. At least she got the color right, it looks like she imagined.

"...Do you have a fetish I should know about? Should I be worried?"

"No, I don't have a fetish." If he did, then it was good that he was with someone that could help him indulge in it.

"There may or may not be some pictures of you when you were curled up sleeping next to me so cutely."

"Good to know. I suppose. It doesn't make your desire for a cat tail any less weird."

But it does make her a tiny bit more likely to indulge it. She contemplates it for a moment before she's distracted again.

"Wait--what? No--" Her cheeks are burning and she turns on her heel because really, she's 23, silly pictures of her shouldn't be so embarrassing.

"Maybe I'll go sleep with Amelia tonight. Maybe you won't get a chance to take pictures of me when I'm too asleep to stop you."

It's so cute, though. Kaito loves that she can still get so embarrassed like this over silly pictures. He's grinning so big right now.

"Don't be like that, Maddie. It's not like I have shown them to anyone." Maybe that would make her feel less embarrassed about it. "I bet she thinks you look pretty cute when you are curled up sleep too."

She shakes her head and if she had anything to throw over her shoulder at him, she would. She settles for a piece of bark she pried off the tree and turns to shake her finger at him. This is not effective at all.

"I don't think that makes it better. Not that it's the same thing at all."

It's a good thing he doesn't mention any of the other photos that he may or may not have of her.

"I would say I would let you take an embarrassing photo of me, but I don't think I could get as embarrassed as easily as you do." Maybe if she made him wear a frilly pink tutu or something.

She knows other photos must exist but since they were not spoken of, their existence is hypothetical and they cannot bother her. She huffs and crosses her arms, raising an eyebrow.

"I feel like these things are not at all equivalent, no."

"Then what would make it better? Keep in mind that I'm not going to stop taking pictures of you nor will I delete the ones that I already have."

"See you're hardly giving me anything to work with here. If not showing anyone is a given at least. It is a given, right?" She crosses her arms, "...I'm not naked in any of these pictures, am I?"

"If you are really against it. Though I don't see why." It was cute, others would think it was cute too.

"N-" He pauses for a second because he has to think about it. "No. You are clothed in them all."

She forgets about the first part, showing and not showing, because now she's worried about that pause.

"...Just what sort of technicalities are we talking about here that make you have to think about my state of dress?"

She taps her finger on her arm, "Really, I know you like the way I look a biit more than I do, but it's not like I'm going anywhere. You can just look at me."

"There was one time when you were in a towel and another time where you were sleeping under the blanket after we slept together." She was naked, but covered.

"I know I can, but I still like having pictures of you that I can look back on."

She has all the tell tale signs of being flustered. Her fingers are working through the same lock of hair, she's not meeting his eyes and the tips of her ears are red, but she doesn't look that upset.

"I'm trying to better about things like this but it's still embarrassing. Maybe if you asked me? Well--I guess if I'm asleep you can't ask me."
