For all of the newcomers, welcome to Professor Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning! For all of our returning students and staff, welcome back! Once Professor Xavier’s welcome speech wraps up, it’s time for everyone to get themselves situated in their dorms and, more importantly, get to know your fellow mutants! Even if you’re not sharing rooms, you’ll still be sharing the same campus with each other, so don’t be afraid to get used to all of those new faces! Or even catch up on old ones! You have options; don’t be afraid to use them.

[[ ooc: This is the general mingling post for all of our characters to get settled into their rooms, get to know each other, reminisce with old friends, all that jazz. The log will be split into multiple locations. ]]

[ The knock and then the movement of the door is enough to get Soren to look up - but what keeps him looking up is the combination of the garment bag and the person carrying it. He stares for a moment or two, taking in the bear and the other suitcase with a frown. ]

This isn't the girls' dormitory.

[ . . . not that he's one to talk about looking girly, but that's hardly the point. ]

Not a problem, mate. Trust me, I'm in the right place. Speaking of... -Bridget tossed the garment bag onto the other bed, fishing a document out of his purse.-

Ah, you are... Soren, right? Name's Bridget! Nice to meet ya!

[tactlesstactician]

[ The expression on Soren's face is one of clear disbelief, but no - the name matches up...

And then the disbelief shifts to suspicious speculation, as his eyes follow the movement of the paper. ]

... likewise. [ Though he doesn't actually sound too pleased. ]

Looks like we're gonna be flatmates for the duration of whenever. -Bridget shrugged, silently instructing the bear as to where to put the suitcase. The thing seemed to just shut itself off once its task was complete, leaving Bridget to kick off his shoes and plop onto the bed, letting out a sigh.-

So, tell me a bit about yourself, hmm?

So it seems.

[ The bear is actually somewhat interesting to watch, until it stops. Either it's a robot, or Soren has his first clue about what his roommate can do. He's still looking at the bear when Bridget speaks up again. ]

I like reading, and I don't like to be bothered. What's with the bear?

[ In line with not liking to be bothered, he wants to know if it's something he has to worry about. ]

Oh Roger? He's a robot my dad built. -Well that settled that query, at least.- He's kind of like a servant slash watchdog. Keeps after me.

my niece's name is bridgette so I keep mistyping bridget's name....

I see. [ He keeps staring at the bear for another few moments before finally looking properly at Bridget again. ]

And the clothes? [ Because dressing like a girl is -- ok it's not the most bizarre thing Soren has seen, nor is it as weird as the bear, but it's still weird enough to warrant questions. It's not that he's interested in getting to know his roommate but well... he's still not entirely sure Bridgit is actually a guy, yet. ]

What? Can't a bloke have a nice wardrobe? New school and all, and you only get one chance to make a good impression. Part of that is dressing nice, mum always said.

[ There is a long moment of silence during which Soren just -- blinks at Bridget. Then he lets out his breath in something of a snort and shakes his head, looking back down at his book. ]

... any powers I should know about?

[ Obviously Bridget has to have some, but not all mutations are really necessary to know about. ]

-Bridget raised his finger, signaling for Soren to watch before he quickly unholstered the yoyo hanging off of his hip. With a flick of the wrist, he tossed it into the air, without looping the string on his finger and then just reach out to poke it...

... stopping it completely in place. No movement whatsoever. Even the loose string was suspended in the air.-

Pretty neat, right?

[ The demonstration does pull him away from his book again to watch.

That - that actually is pretty cool. Soren can see right away how being able to stop things would be useful. ]

Mm. [ He nods, though he wonders... ]

Just stopping things?

Dr. McCoy said something about "kinetic vectors" or whatever. I'm not super up on my physics so I can't say I really knew what he was talking about or how all this works.

[ That -- is actually something Soren has read about and understands, and he looks a bit more interested now. He's quiet for a moment as he thinks about the best way to explain it. ]

If you were to graph the movement of an object over time, at each moment you could break down its movements into up to three directions in the X, Y and Z planes and the rate of its movement in that particular direction at that moment. That combination of direction and magnitude of movement is a vector. Kinetic refers to the energy of motion. So basically you can control the motion of things.

[ tl;dr congratulations, Bridget, your roommate is an antisocial nerd. ]

Whoa... That... Huh. I can actually make sense of that. -Beast's way of explaining it was significantly more wordy.-

[ Soren sits up and rolls off his bed to go over to his desk. He plucks an introductory physics textbook off and then holds it out for Bridget to take. ]

... this might help.

-Bridget's eyes lit up, gleefully taking the book. He was only in biology this semester. This would go a long way in helping understand how his powers worked.-

... [ Soren makes a noise of acknowledgement and then sits down on his bed again, pulling a leg up and wrapping his arms around it as he rests his chin on his knee. ]

If you haven't learned the math for it, I have math books too...

Oh no, lad, MATHS I've got. Dad was an engineer, right? He made sure my brother and I were well up on our maths. I woulda started on Algebra early but... well. Homeless for a year and all.

[tactlesstactician]

Ah. . . . for a year? Something happen to your father?

[kickstart_my_heart]

W-well, no, he's fine... I just ran away.

[tactlesstactician]

[ Soren just kind of stares at Bridget for a moment. ]

Why? Didn't like mutants?

[kickstart_my_heart]

... Didn't like the feeling of being a bird in a cage. I can't watch everything from home. I can't be locked away forever, no matter how much dad said it was for my own good...

I want to find my own path in life.

[tactlesstactician]

I see.

[ Soren heaves a sigh. ]

But you brought the robot bear with you.

[kickstart_my_heart]

Well... I like having something to cuddle with at night, if I'm gonna be honest. I've had Roger since I was little.

[tactlesstactician]

[ Envy sparks briefly in Soren's expression, but he quickly stifles it. ]
