And this is one of the reasons he usually avoids the canteen. Why do they always leave the news on in here? Seriously, he's trying to eat.

Adachi isn't asking for permission. He's bored of the news! So he messes with the TV until he gets it to show something that has a shoot-out in it. He doesn't know what it is, exactly, but it looks a lot less dull, and thus, better!

When she left a long while ago, there was riots and protests about the economy and mutants ruining it. Now, well, that had died down a while ago but she wondered if there was actually anything going on.

Gaige has been avidly shoveling food into her mouth as she watches the TV. This stuff is important, and honestly? She's got no idea how people just up and do this kind of shit! People are people you know? She doesn't really pay attention to Adachi until he's standing next to the TV.

There is no way she's gonna let him change the channel like that. The redhead hops up and huffs over to face him with a serious frown.

I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a hate group painting the other side this way. But at the same time, extremists can't be trusted either. This situation is only going to cause more problems for everyone.

[Al watches the bulk of the news with a dedicated kind of disinterest. For almost every story, though it's plain he's listening, his eyes stay more readily focused on the beer he's knocking back from the bottle. The political news is bullshit, Shaw is as weaselly as ever, and he doesn't need to hear secondhand about violence in District X -- he still commutes from there.

Yet, when the anchor switches over to that last story, it's all he can do to keep from chucking his bottle at the screen.]

There was probably an entire crowd of Friends of Humanity showing their asses at that protest, and they go and off the one flatscan who'll play well on the six o'clock news...!

[ New to the US, the news here is something of a surprise. While violent instances aren't rare in France, they are much more in number here. She can't help but pay attention, her heart sinking between the different news reports. Vandalization, what she assumes is a corrupt President. Shaw isn't a new face but she could care less what he has to say on any matter.

What catches her off guard, and makes her jump a little, is Al's outburst. ]

It cannot be helped. [ She murmurs, her accent it still pretty thick but understandable. It's noticeably french. ] History and news are often written from the point of view of tyranny. [ She crosses her arms over her chest, unconsciously playing with her necklace. ]

Laura did not rush to judgment, it was as likely that some idiot children killed him to help, and did the wrong thing. But it could also be all manner of other less obvious things.

People might expect the school's only (known) member of the Friends of Humanity to have a lot to say about the news, but Eren is relatively sedate today, for Eren. He's busy cleaning the canteen floor, uncomplainingly doing his janitorial work as he listens.

"I don't see why anyone's surprised."

Still, he wishes he could be in the fight. That's where he belongs, doing battle for humanity. But they don't want him, and Eren knows very well what could happen if his power activated in the midst of a crowd. He does mutter something about traitors, but it's hard to make out.

He looks up and narrows his eyes when the dead man is mentioned. "It's only going to get worse."

Shindou is only trying to get ahead on his schoolwork, honestly. He has soccer practice tomorrow, a session with the rest of his trainee team the day after, and mid-terms coming up fast. Even for a boy who normally stays on top of his classes, it's a tight press -- and there's less chance of him missing dinner if he camps out at a corner table with his books here, instead of holing up in the library.

In other words, he doesn't even want to listen to the news right now. But it's too serious to ask to turn off, and the drumbeat of miserable headlines has his teeth gritted soon enough.

As if that weren't enough, he's seated right in the path of Eren's cleaning. He's right in range to pick up on the resident Friend of Humanity's commentary on the grimmest story of the day.

He turns around in seat, wincing when he gets a face to pair with the familiar voice. That guy, of course.

"Can you not...?" He glowers, voice restrained but still plainly on-edge.

Souji is curled up in front of the TV in an oversized t-shirt and tights, frowning at the screen as if confused by it. His memory is full of so many things that are useless to him now, and he has a vague feeling that he needs to learn to understand the things happening on the news and in the world instead. Unfortunately, his mind isn't really the best at grasping things he has no connection to, so it's an uphill struggle.

Anyway, people are more interesting! So when Eren speaks, he turns to the younger boy with a bright, curious expression on his face. "What is it that's going to get worse?"

The news was hard to look at... and knowing what she knew about Eren at this point, he was a little difficult to look at as well. Still, she brought some snacks for him. She figured that work would make him hungry.... But she found herself lacking a lot to say, or will to say anything at all. So she just held out the bag of jerky for him, staying awkwardly silent.

Whenever the Mutant Liberation Front is mentioned, Tenma seems to get less talkative and slower. He seems to look troubled.

"I'm just overthinking it... maybe,.." He quietly mutters to himself in Japanese.

Shaking his head, he tries to go back to whatever it was he was doing, but he is keeping the tv in the corner of his eyes.

Rinka's lips are pressed into a thin line by the time the latest MLF related news story finishes. With each passing day, her feelings toward the organization grow more and more complicated, especially with the increase of incidents in Tokyo.

"Overthinking what?" she asks, using Japanese as well. She'd almost left the boy to his musings, but sometimes it helped to talk. And perhaps she could settle some of her own feelings at the same time.

Daryl has been absently listening to the news--watching it would be a grave overstatement. Still, he hears the anchors and it's all he can do to shake his head. This wasn't going to make anything better, and worse, where ever his brother was, Daryl knew he was in full support of it.

"'Mutant crisis' my ass. Registration ain't gonna solve a damn thing, just gonna make it worse," he scoffs, finally turning to actually watch the TV.

"Especially if it gets the 'resources to enforce' that Shaw seems to think it needs," Alex remarks, eyes narrowed at the television screen. "Because if he actually care about 'fairness and liberty' where mutants are concerned, then I'm a monkey's uncle."

There appears to be a cat surfing the internet.

Though it's clumsy, it's managing to use the mouse on one of the computers in the library pretty well, and it occasionally pauses to meticulously drag the cursor over the arrows on the side of the screen, scrolling down whenever it reaches the end of a page. Right now it's on a news website, apparently watching a video of a news report about the unfortunate young man found dead with the MLF logo spraypainted onto him.

Its tails sway from side to side as the cat finishes the video, then moves the mouse over to a link with similar news items.

Naija, who's stuck inside due to the lake freezing over, pads over to the cat with her unsteady walk on land. She crouches, purrs just like one.

"Hello. Are you an especially smart cat or do you just like to watch the...cursor move?"

She holds out her hand to scritch it, if it wants.

"Great, I think I'm going to want to keep a taser under my pillow in case Saint Nick proves to be on the Friends of Knuckleheads side of things."

Maya was fairly sure that the rising level of anger between both sides meant she should just keep a weapon on her to be safe. Did everyone just want a war? Maybe she should look into other countries to live in. New Zealand is very pretty, right? All those movies made there...
