A Sinister Legacy [PART 2] [OPEN]
WHO: Students and faculty of the Institute, plus some unfortunate SHIELD agents caught in the crossfire
WHAT: Sinster did something, ah... sinister... to Martha, and now the school security systems are attacking anyone and everyone that might interfere with his um... sinister... plans.
WHERE: The Institute
WHEN: STILL ON THE 25TH. TRUST US.
WARNING(S): Violence hooooo
As a reminder, there are THREE ways to be involved with this event:
WHAT: Sinster did something, ah... sinister... to Martha, and now the school security systems are attacking anyone and everyone that might interfere with his um... sinister... plans.
WHERE: The Institute
WHEN: STILL ON THE 25TH. TRUST US.
WARNING(S): Violence hooooo
As a reminder, there are THREE ways to be involved with this event:
1. Help the SHIELD agents on the front lawn survive against the school security systems! This will be combat heavy and will involve NPC assists from Nick Fury
2. Help protect other students, and those who can't fight, get to safe places! Not every section of the school is as automated as others and there are places that Sinister's infection of the security systems hasn't reached. This can be combat heavy or not at all, and will involve NPC assists from Storm
3. HELLIONS your girl No Girl needs help. Also the Professor and Logan. Your job is to head to the sublevels and break in to the most heavily secured area of the school and stop whatever is causing things to go haywire, and possibly stop Sinister himself from whatever he has planned. As usual, you will be assisted by Emma.
HELLIONS ROLL OUT
Stay as warm as you can and let's get down there as quickly as possible. It's only going to get tougher once we're there. [Emma's skin and hair had already started to transform into their diamond state...]

Nora arrives on the heels of the explosion of a turret down the hall, jumping down most of the stairs and landing hard, with her grenade launcher in her hands... and the beginnings of that manic grin she always has in combat situations pulling up the corners of her lips.]
So are like... all of the defense systems trying to kill us or what? Geez. [She takes the brief respite to pop open the chamber of her grenade launcher, and reload the couple empty barrels.]

X-FORCE ON THE LAWN

So she had been rather off-guard when the security systems lost their shit.
Scrambling outside took surprisingly little thought; she was getting used to rushing places in uniform, it seemed. Just as she was getting used to controlling how her vision saw through things as materials to the points beyond it.
Flandre crunched the point of the nearest pulse rifle in her palm, though only enough to shear the gun from its base, rather than atomize the entire thing.
But that was just one--and there were how many more? One less of "too many" wasn't much of an achievement.]
I won't be able to get all of them from here.

Gene Nation: dorks.
Liir couldn't begin to care less if the security system eliminated the SHIELD agents. It only represented an opportunity for them. Liir rolled behind a bush, beckoning his people to follow.
"Let's head for the lower levels. They haven't made the transfer yet."

So much for that.
It didn't even shoot bullets, just--energy. Energy she'd never seen before or had to deal with and it was flying right at her. She didn't move instantly, trusting to her vectors to deflect it like they did so many other things. But they had trouble adjusting to something so new so quickly. They screeched to higher resonances than they should, even turning plainly visible and ghost-white to untrained eyes--and audible as a whining, buzzing sound. The vectors held, sparks cascading off of the field--but that wasn't the only turret showing its face.
"Move now, talk later!"

AGH! [she reacts as a shot nails her in the shoulder. She barely had time to react before it hit. Shifting the energy in her body to the area to both mitigate the damage and heal it quickly]
Get everyone inside! Find a safe place and get as many kids and non combatants as you can there! NOW!

Re: Moving it inside
Team 3
He wasn't waiting for them for long when the security systems began to attack outside.]
Whoa!
Re: Team 3
Her face grew grim and serious, and she looked to Tenma. "Get the team together, stay in here, I need you to form a Triage unit. I'm going out to look for anyone who is injured, or in distress and bring them down. I need you guys to see who is hurt, and get them to the medical area, who is shocky - those people should be brought to sofas, talk to them gently, try to help them come back to themselves."
"Anyone else who is capable, get them to help. And the little kids... keep them inside, keep them safe."
She looked at him seriously. "This is a lot of responsibility. Can you guys handle it?"

OTA - going out with a bang (nuts = bullets)
She had moved to one of the injured trees, cooing to it, wooshing at it... when everything went wrong. She had no clue what was going on, or what those odd things throwing projectiles out were. But the trees knew.
These trees had seen gunfire before; they tried to warn her.
Rhia listened, and believed them, to a point, that these were bad things, and it was dangerous. But they spoke of having these things lodged deep in their bark, they spoke of the loss of limbs and leaves, not the loss of lives.
These trees were not the trees back home, she had not spent as long with them, and they were not as "awake" or aware that soft fleshy skin was different than thick bark and roots. So they warned her that it might hurt. Not that it might kill her.
So she was careful, but not as careful as she would have been, as she should have been. She was careful... as she tried to catch one of the weird shaped "nuts" that were flying past the trees, to figure out what it was about them that made them so dangerous.
But she wasn't fast enough. It was luck that had the first two that came close missing her. The third grazed the side of her head. It hurt, but the trees had warned her that these things would hurt; so she pushed past it, reached, trying again to catch a projectile.
One caught her instead.
Rhia SCREAMED as the thing ripped through her, and fell against the trunk of the tree, squishing all the red berries in her pouch, so that blood from the bullet wound on her left side, in her stomach, poured down from her gut, down her left leg.... and something that looked a lot like blood with bits in it squished out from under her belt to run down her right leg.
She screamed as she fell against the tree, the nut-thing was still inside her and she had never felt so much pain at one time. The trees tried to defend her, branches bending and crossing and curling to protect her from any other projectiles... which also served to protect her from potential rescuers who might react to hearing a 13 year old screaming, or the scent of blood.
no subject
The body was mostly obscured by the branches but there was enough visible for Melinda the see the blood and she made an attempt to get past the branches to reach her.
"Hello. Can you hear me?" The voice shook and broke but at least the words were audible. "My name is Melinda. I want to help you." In her mind the same two sentences repeated over and over again. Please let her be conscious. Please let her be alive. Please let her be conscious. Please let her be alive.

She had growled at the guns, not fully understanding what it was before she was fired upon. She took off quickly before she had been caught in the side by one of them. The tiny feral stumbled and fell before taking off as fast as she could towards the building. This was something that the feral could not fight and it was scary.
If anything, she quickly found a small hiding spot and wedged herself in, hoping to keep her out of sight until things calmed down..Although her luck wasn't the best at the moment.]
no subject
Aqua had come out to find people who needed help, who needed to be brought inside. She saw the young child stumble and fall. Aqua raced towards her.
She might have missed the hiding space if she hadn't seen her climbing into it. Aqua ran to her hiding spot and crouched before it, calling forth her armor to cover her body, and the back and sides of her head, leaving her face visible.
She held out an armored hand. "I'm Master Aqua, one of the professors. I'm here to help get you inside to safety."

Technically on Team 4 but ignoring orders
But she'll be locked up again. She doesn't like that. Constrained. The thought makes her feel like she's suffocating. So she leaves the humans alone. Instead, she turns toward one of the stately nearby trees. Plants are a little harder to work with, but she's been practicing with plants for the past few months.
The tree trembles. It twists. Its roots rise from the ground, its branches morphing into tentacles. Within moments, it's no longer a tree, but a pestilent tree-sized monster that moves in a way that seems to defy both nature and physics. And it's very fast for something that large. Lovecraft would be proud. How beautiful! She's never made one so big before. And all the plants around her... the possibilities are dizzying.
(Yes, she mostly cares that she's allowed to use her full powers in the chaos. That counts as helping, right?)]
no subject
[Trees turning full-on Lovecraftian was always within the realm of possibility, but quite honestly, even he's a little unnerved. He keeps his cool rather admirably, all the same, as he taps something into the screen of a wrist communicator.]

Option 1 - OTA
He knows from experience now that the impromptu weapons he might grab while already in battle aren't always the most prudent ones - like a sliver of very sharp glass, last time - so he detours by the gym and picks up a titanium baseball bat instead. And then he simply runs straight toward the canons, waiting for the first one to fire at him to activate his powers.
It's going to take a while for him, even with super strength, to break even one of them by just hitting it. In between opportunities to do damage, he is whirling and jumping in between the blasts, eyes glazed over and a look of singular focus on his face.
Option 1 - OTA
Heading toward the fray, he tries not to put himself in any direct lines of fire - but blind spots are pretty far between, all things considered. Meaning he has to take hits from time to time, twisting out of the way as much as possible, wincing and cursing in Volstovic. At least there isn't that big of a risk of projectiles lodging in him.
At the sight of anyone who seems to have taken damage, he'll hurry over to their side, jumping out of the way of a blast and managing somehow not to canon into whoever he's trying to assist.]
Need some help with that?
Re: Option 1 - OTA

LAWN: Guardian Dragons
This also meant he had a direct view of the turrets rather abruptly turning against the SHIELD agents. Whatever might have happened, that didn't seem like Xavier's style; his window was already open when he realized they were turning on the students, as well. Something was very wrong. He paused just a moment to send off a voice message to his team: Hijikata (although he probably knew already), Tiamaris, and Mitsudata.
"Lawn, trouble, security system's out of control!"
That would have to be clear enough until they were all together. For the moment, he leaped out the window and into the fray, toward one of the turrets. He pushing his hands downward to arrest his fall with an intense jet of plasma from either hand, lancing downward to cut into the turret like a pair of huge cutting torches. He dropped to the ground from there, charging more plasma in his hands as he took a quick glance about to gauge the state of that turret and look out for others that had to be neutralized to ensure, first of all, that the SHIELD agents at least had cover.
Re: LAWN: Guardian Dragons
Next time, open window first, transform second.
This time... couldn't matter. Transformed into the partway form, a human with overlapping scale armor, he leaped out of his window and ran out. A few shots hit him, didn't matter. He didn't let it matter. He was looking for... THERE!
He ran towards Alric, ripping divots out of the lawn. His eyes were dark orange. "What?" he rasped. "What should I be doing?" Who were they fighting, just... the school's security system? Should...they really be destroying that...?

Cafteria --> Hallways
"HEY WHAT WAS THE BIG--" She was about to shout, until she saw that the boy that had ran into her had taken a bola to the face. The sound of metal hitting metal came when she brought her hand to her lips in shock. No. Those things were coming fast. Could his neck take the sudden pressure?
Takakage. If anybody knew where to go, it was Takakage. She picked up the boy, who was limp but still warm, and looked for the nearest exit. Fortunately, one of the kids decided to make a new hole into the side of the walls, which other students had started to pile into.
Catherine muscled through. "Gangway. Gangway. This guy's hurt. Sorry. I'll pay for that later. Thank you!" Being steel and bionics was definitely useful for this at least. Some of the kids looked on and she heard murmurs that the medical ward would be likely to have fewer weapons. Though it wasn't her intention, Catherine started a small convoy of students heading towards there in the desperate hope that there would be some measure of sanctuary that way.
Though Catherine herself was mostly interested in the boy in her hands. Here's hoping he was going to be okay...

Between the pre-cog portion of his abilities and a little probability tweaking, Alex was keeping just a step or so ahead of the security measures without breaking too much of a sweat. But just as he was about to round a corner, he got a flash of the group of students coming his way. Lovely, more probabilities to keep track of. Injured ones at that.
"Heading to the medical wing?" he asked as he rounded the corner.

What's she doing?
Too agitated to hold the sparks back, he's looking around for his team-mates, trying to see what they're up to...
...but dammit, this is chaos. There're people everywhere, stuff going off all around. If he sees anyone in trouble - especially the younger kids - he might just be able to gather his composure long enough to tell them, "Hey, stick behind me, okay?"

the lake and woods, option 2
The security net was pretty thin this far out but that didn't mean it wasn't there. She waited for people to come seeking shelter...or to come after her.
Option 2, OTA - from lawn toward safe zones
Still, he is a fully trained X-man. That is to say, he's not going to be of any use fighting the security systems outright, but his knowledge of the manor and training can still count for a lot. He can make sure people are safe - and if he can find Feliks in the middle of this melee, make that very safe.]
Everyone not fighting, to me! [At least he can use his powers to make himself incredibly noticeable to anyone looking his way, and also rather extremely hard to disobey.] We're heading somewhere safe, okay?

OPEN, anywhere on campus, running around rescuing people!
[Still, as bad as everything looked, he wasn't exactly expecting the mansion itself to suddenly turn on them all.]
[With a brief burst of obscenity in his mother tongue as the room he was in lit up with lasers, he focused his power on his uniform, adding elements of tactical gear to make it bulletproof. His power could disable things in the area he was in -- he knew the building and its defenses well, and it was a simple enough matter to make the lasers into disco lights instead, for the moment -- but the first thing his mind went to was figuring out where they could bring students that would be safe from the security systems.]
[He made a run or two for the most populous areas first, and then started looking for makeshift hiding places and more isolated areas, temporarily shifting things around him (walls into curtains, guns into water guns...), intent on getting as many people to safety as he could.]
Come on, oh my God, what are you standing around here for?
OPEN, outside, sticking near the edge of the building
[It didn't frighten her as much as she was logically sure it ought to.]
[Krista didn't really know what to do. She couldn't fight -- she didn't have a power that could fight machines, didn't have the kind of training that the X-men did. But was she going to stand around waiting for orders from her X-team's leader?]
[No. Because "Krista" was a Good Girl, and a good girl cared about the people around her. "Krista" was kind, and she was brave, and she'd do whatever she had to to be of help.]
[She made her way out of the building carefully, sneaking closer and closer to where the fighting was going on, looking for people who seemed to be wounded.]
Are you alright?

Then he saw Krista, who was keeping close to the edge of the grounds. He approached as fast as he could, dodging any kind of projectiles.]

[He moved quickly, avoiding the security systems as much as possible on the way out. The weapons were too much for him to destroy with his power or brute force, so he targeted his own attention towards taking out the sensing and tracking devices that allowed the weapons to find their targets, barking orders to anyone who didn't seem to know what they were doing or belong on the battlefield.]
no subject
But it's not as if the heightened state he's in makes him incapable of critical thinking - in a very specialized sense, it's rather the opposite. The further he pushes his power, the further he realizes that he can see large parts of the battle, all of it hanging together like machinery.
He just doesn't know what to do with it. So he does the one thing that comes most naturally to him, landing next to Hijikata after taking a leap off a canon. Giving his sleeve a tug, he mutely points out the weapons that are going to go off next close to them, one after the other.]

He opened a door and looked inside, at a first glance the room seemed empty but Yuui was nothing if not thorough. He'd glanced at the name of the occupant before entering and called out in a soft, calm voice.
"Jack? Are you in here? I can help you to a safe zone if you need." He doesn't use much of his powers except for adding a small undertone of encouragement to speak up towards anyone who might be in the room.

In school & outside school
[Eren's always on alert. He can never be truly easy here. He's suspicious (some might say paranoid), and he doesn't sleep well. His knowledge of what's happening with Renko has only put him more on edge, even if he thinks she should be given up to SHIELD. It all seems too easy. So when disaster strikes, he's ready. Sometimes paranoia pays off, in a manner of speaking.
When the security systems react, though, it takes him a minute to realize what's happening.
His first priority is the kids. The little kids. He has to help them. He races into the hall with no regard for his own safety, as chaos breaks out, looking for anyone who needs him. He's willing to use himself as a shield, if necessary.]
Come with me!
On the lawn:
[By this point, Eren has taken a lot of damage. He's covered in blood. From the amount of it on his body, it looks as if he shouldn't still be on his feet, but the blood loss isn't the problem. There's something erratic about his movements, and his body is radiating heat, like a furnace. He's never regenerated this much, and it's having an effect on him.
Nonetheless, he charges in again. There are still people who need his help!]
Outside!
[He's done a couple of sweeps of the school, and figured that the injured are more likely to need him than anybody who's still hiding successfully.]
[On the way out of the building, he grabbed the glass top off of a round coffee table, but thanks to his power, it's a riot shield right now. Noticing how beat up Eren is, he moves in to try and provide him some cover.]
Hey, you holding up and junk?
[Even now, he tries to keep his tone light -- though he guesses that isn't how he usually talks to Eren, of all people.]

She could not just sit idly by, anyone caught with there will need help. Her powers would be just the thing to deflect attacks.
And so, with a grim nod to herself, Patchouli heads out, ready to lend aid where she can.
no subject
By the time she makes her way outside, there's a frenzied battle underway. Many of the SHIELD agents have taken cover behind the quinjet, while others have made their way closer to the building.
Fury himself is standing in the cover of Jean Grey's statue, his face expressionless as he carefully balances and aims a grenade launcher. He fires a round at the reinforced metal riot door that's rolled down to block one of the exterior entrances to the sublevels, scowling when it only seems to singe the surface and leave a dent.
They can't help bring Renko in if they can't get inside the building. He doesn't have time for this...
"Moving on that door. Someone give me some damn cover!"
Patchy's heading out of the school to help get anyone caught out there to safety.
Lawn - OTA
She'd managed to reach the front doors without anyone stopping her and could almost taste the relief but froze at the scene in front of her. This was even worse than what she had run away from, but even though the small part of her still capable of logical though was screaming at her to get inside again, but once she had started running there was no turning back.
She saw a hint of movement in the corner of her eye and her powers flared up, stopping the world around her for a moment, or at least the human parts of it. But in her frazzled state the effects would only last a second or two, just enough time for her to turn her head for a better look.]
no subject
Option 2 - OTA
He hurried along the corridors, methodically searching every new room and area for students and making mental notes on where the security system had gone haywire and where, at least for now, it seemed to be safe.
Spotting a student he quickens his pace a bit but is sure to look as calm and collected as he can.]
Are you alright?

I think I'm about at my limit.
[The confession is matter of fact, thought a little sheepish. He closes his eyes and pinches the bridge of his nose for a moment, then pushes himself to his feet. He has a number of grazes from his runs past the more lively part of the security system, but nothing life threatening.]
