WHEN: Thanksgiving Weekend
WARNING(S): Violence, language, etc

So this was Christmas, and War was Not Over. The soup lines, this time, were alongside official Vaccine Centers, cures to the Legacy Virus being handed out alongside plates of hot food for the needy. Once more, winter was bleak in the world of mutants living in forced squalor. Attitudes were not particularly bright. People were no longer dying in the streets from illness, but were conditions really any better? War with Genosha was imminent. The National Guard was already standing post around the community, enforcing curfews, treating the area now more than ever like an internment community. Xavier's students were allowed to move around freely, but only with special ID badges that marked them as such. It was the same all over the country.

This wasn't Mutant Registration... it somehow felt worse. And it didn't help that the Mutant Liberation Front was still very active in the area, and many of them entirely blamed the X-Men for Renko's apparent 'death'. There were antagonistic forces around them, and desperate faces looking at them for some kind of hope. And if they couldn't get it there...

There were whispers, a lot of them, about fleeing to Genosha. About joining the MLF and working alongside Genosha for 'true' mutant liberation. About kickstarting this war on local soil. And really...

... was there anything the X-Men could do to stop it? Should they stop it?

WARNING(S): Violence, language, etc

The Blackbird was getting quite a bit of use, lately. It left the Institute early, before the sun was properly up—from there, it was a straight line from New York to Antarctica, with no stops between. The paperwork had been cleared, official permission granted for the team to enter an international wildlife reserve. There would be no scandalous headlines of border-crossing house parties this time, thank you very much.

The glasslike surface of the Antarctic Ocean stretched away endlessly beneath the plane, disappearing into a fog-clouded horizon.

They weren’t there quite yet.

But they would be soon.

WHO: Students and staff of Xavier’s Institute
WHAT: Scanning some paper that may or may not have information leading to a proper cure
WHERE: One of the library’s computer labs
WHEN: After the recovery team’s return
WARNING(S): Papercuts and swearing

The notes taken from the Essex mansion could fill two rooms of printer boxes, and still be spilling out the door. The paper was old, but at least not crumbling; the pages were still easy to handle, provided it was done so with care. These were documents of some historical importance, if only from where they came from. Digitizing them for better preservation was part of a hastily drawn up agreement for removing the documents from the mansion to keep nationalistic curators quiet.

The pages were written in a simple Roman substitution cipher; easy enough to crack in the modern day even for students, and especially when scanned in and uploaded to a server where it could all be done electronically. McCoy’s lab could have done it faster, of course—but they were otherwise occupied at the time, with their resources better spent elsewhere. The documents couldn’t very well leave the Institute, after the price of getting them here—so instead, the task was advertised to the students and employees.

Mostly it was tedious busywork, and not at all mandatory. Volunteers could show up and stay for as long or little as they liked, and rewarded with community service hours depending on the duration. The only stipulation was not to take the notes out of the room.

With many hands, the work should be finished relatively quickly at least.

WHAT: Defend McCoy’s lab, aid McCoy in any way possible
WHERE: District X
WHEN: Shortly after the recovery team’s departure; early evening
WARNING(S): Violence, mentions of medical procedures

"...confirmed reports of uncontrollable fires, electrical surges, and other instances of apparent uncontrolled mutant powers coming from District X, the largest concentration of the afflicted in the city..."

"...a tragic event where a busy intersection collapsed into a massive sinkhole, swallowing dozens of cars. A known mutant was spotted near the scene; we will keep you updated as the situation unfolds..."

It was barely hours since the Blackbird had left, hours, and in came thundering the next crisis. A critically ill mutant’s power had not only hastened the illness, but raged out of control—killing innocent bystanders in the process.

Protesters had sprouted up since the virus had been found—human and mutant, sometimes even both in the same crowd, demanding that the infected be shipped out, sent away, put anywhere but here. Now, they were quickly galvanizing into riots, and worse...

Get to the District. Secure McCoy’s lab, protect the sick there. Control the damage.

And see if the reports of Sinister’s soldiers in the crowds are true.

WHO: The sick and the recovery team
WHAT: Research theft and retrieval of the ill
WHERE: Sinister’s old mansion, outskirts of London
WHEN: Late afternoon
WARNING(S): Violence and sickness

The estate was built away from the city proper and not quite on the river, but a bit back from the water, discretely screened by well-tended trees and away from the prying eyes of tourists. The canal that led to it was maintained enough to look picturesque, but not entirely functional; it’s barely wide enough for the boat to fit—one way only—and shallow enough that the bottom occasionally scraped up alarmingly against the boat’s hull.

Some stubborn bursts of the propeller got them through, though the way back out might be more challenging.

Behind a bend they found one of the service tunnels, disused for some time but at least not collapsed. Once it was used for coal and other cargo delivered by water—including the kind that came in living mutant varieties. Nowadays it was kept securely chained and padlocked to keep out tourists and teenagers.

A snikt put an end to that.

The trip through the tunnel was uneventful, short, but dark; it was flashlights only here, all the way up the stairs that led to the mansion’s interior, the door to which Logan also handily opened. The mansion itself had…seen better days. Much better days. It’s terribly dusty, with a large amount of furniture removed and covers thrown over the rest, blank spaces on the walls where paintings were removed for storage elsewhere, along with a number of books. Some remained, as covered in dust as the rest of the furnishings.

Logan pulled off the sheet covering one of the remaining couches, sending a small cloud of dust into the air. He swatted at it with the same irritation as a man chasing away a swarm of flies, which at least made Kurt laugh. His condition had worsened significantly after the escape, and he was grateful for the chance to sit again.

It was Logan who spoke.

"Find the lab or find a place to rest; we don’t have time for sightseeing."

Notes: Part one of the series

[It's nighttime on the 22nd, the plot is set, the day has come. It was finally time to break out, to find answers. To find a cure. They wouldn't find anything sitting here. Henry had found nothing while Kurt was getting worse, his flesh beginning to turn from blue to a boiling shade of red. He had know he didn't have much time. He knew it would take a miracle to survive much longer.

Lying in his medical bed with Flik next to him his tail flicks to the side, giving the signal that it was time to begin.

Seconds later, Flik charges straight for Zancrow, screaming at the top of his lungs and as soon as he does, Kurt bamfs from his table, appearing right next to the first person he's getting ready to teleport out.]

Who: Students, Faculty, and a large chunk of New York.
What: Dazzler! Live in concert
Where: Central Park's Summer Stage
When: June 25th starting at 6PM
Warnings: Some people just don't like good music.

The Show:
It was about an hour before Dazzler was supposed to hit stage when the bus rolled up from Xavier's. Student and teachers alike made their way into the large grass expanse in front of the stage already beginning to fill with regular folks sitting in lawn chairs, relaxing on blankets, or just milling about getting ready for the act. Their is an air of excitement all throughout, everyone is social, and everyone is there ready for a good time whether they are mutant or human. Dotted throughout the expanse is a large amount of vendor booths, selling everything from t-shirts to food and beyond.

Once the concert starts I hope you like rocking. The music is blaring (or should I say Blairing) loudly through speakers interspersed throughout the park. The crowd has pushed forward leaving a much larger expanse of open space for those who just want to sit in the ground and relax taking it all in. The crowd going wild for every song and the incredible stage theatrics that go on in a Dazzler show. Costume changes galore from roller disco to her more contemporary punkish look she's exploding on stage, the light show getting more and more dazzling as the night wears on.

[[During the show you might run into random NPC Concert goers wanting to share a love of music]]

The Afterparty:
After the show is done the field begins clearing out, the booths start to be taken down and the fun moves to the long building behind the stage.  Inside there is a large table covered in snacks and a full open bar for the adults with plenty of alternative beverage choices for the kids. Throughout the night a small staff will be maneuvering through the crowds with drinks and snacks as well, making sure everyone is happy and if they aren't standing at the bar, are still able to get what they want.

After about a half an hour Allison Blaire, all cleaned up comes walking out of the dressing room, cleaned up and relaxed and ready to meet her fans. She'll be milling about, chatting while signing autographs and generally being a large presence in the room interacting with the new students and teachers and hoping she was able to provide some levity after recent events.

As a reminder, there are THREE ways to be involved with this event:
1. Help the SHIELD agents on the front lawn survive against the school security systems! This will be combat heavy and will involve NPC assists from Nick Fury

2. Help protect other students, and those who can't fight, get to safe places! Not every section of the school is as automated as others and there are places that Sinister's infection of the security systems hasn't reached. This can be combat heavy or not at all, and will involve NPC assists from Storm

3. HELLIONS your girl No Girl needs help. Also the Professor and Logan. Your job is to head to the sublevels and break in to the most heavily secured area of the school and stop whatever is causing things to go haywire, and possibly stop Sinister himself from whatever he has planned. Emma really knew how to throw a party. The Atlantean theme to the event was apparent in every decoration. The five gorgeous women playing in the string quintet that accompanied the event were dressed in fanciful mermaid inspired costumes, to match the setting. Why, if Namor himself walked through the door at that very moment, it's likely people would just have assumed he was an honored guest. And don't think Emma hadn't tried to do just that.

Food of all varieties was available, as well as multiple flavors of punch. When the string quartet wasn't playing, general Prom-style mixes of various hits and dance songs throughout the decade would play over the meticulously crafted sound system, a parting gift from a former student. All in all, it was truly as much a Paradise Beneath the Waves as Emma had wanted it to be.

And it didn't stop there. The outdoors of the Institute had also been decorated, but this time in the theme of a spring garden. Blankets were scattered out along the lawn around the pool, offering spaces for people to simply lay down, relax, and enjoy a myriad of virgin (and not so virgin, for the adults) cocktails provided by an "old friend" of Emma's.

It was the biggest social night of the year for the students of Xavier's. And Emma, knowing the transient nature of the school... wanted it to be as memorable as ever. Emma Frost herself, however... was curiously absent.

The tension in the air was palpable. The crowd that had gathered was massive, many of them wearing MLF armbands and face masks. Signs were lifted, chants were heard, there was even a nearby bonfire with scarecrows being torched, their faces covered in photographs of Graydon Creed and William Stryker...

The stage set up was crude. There were only a few spotlights, and a rudimentary PA system. A few people had already spoken, but there was still a rumbling in the audience. They all knew that SHE was here. The woman who had thrown the first stone. A woman whose name they had all come to respect. They chanted for her.

Ren. Ko. Ren. Ko. Ren. Ko....

It was as if she was some sort of mutant messiah, and these were her disciples...

[[ The first top level will be for general rally mingling. The second top level will be for Xavier's peacemakers. The third for Emma's Hellions. And finally, after some time, a new top level will go up when the Friends of Humanity inevitably crash the party. Have fun! ]]
